December 2015 From the Principal’s desk Dear Byrd Families, It is hard to believe that 2015 is coming to a close, but we had a great fall. Thank you to all the families who contributed to the Elk Grove Food Drive because we were able to donate several boxes full of food for a worthy cause. Again, thanks to your generosity, we were also able to donate 607 pairs of socks to homeless shelters as part of our “Socktober” drive. In October, the ​
Chimes, Technology and Sports Club began meeting, and the students seem very excited to participate. We will begin a Chorus Club soon and GOTR (Girls On The Run) will return in the spring, so please look for information about these two clubs in the coming months. Winter officially begins in a couple of weeks, but the cold weather has already arrived. The children play outdoors if the temperature is 10 degrees or above taking the wind chill into account. Please send your child prepared for the weather conditions each day. ​

Parents are encouraged to check the weather report each morning and dress their child accordingly. Nurse Dewbray would greatly appreciate clothing donations for the health office. We are in need of medium and large pants (preferably sweat pants with elastic waists). It helps to have these on hand when students need them during the school day. ​

if you received a letter indicating that your child failed the vision and or hearing screening in November, please follow up with your doctor and return the exam form to the school health office as soon as possible. School will resume on Monday, January 4, 2016. Please plan on attending our special author night featuring Aaron Reynolds on Tuesday, January 12 from 6:00­7:30 p.m. If you would like to order any autographed copies of his books, please make sure you send the order form back to school no later than Friday, December 11, no exceptions. www.facebook.com/byrdelementary Diciembre 2015 Estimadas Familias Byrd, Es dificil de creer que ya casi termina el 2015, pero tuvimos un buen otoño. Gracias a todas las familias por sus contribuciones a “Elk Grove Food Drive”. Pudimos donar varias cajas de comida para una buena causa. Una vez más, gracias a su generosidad, también pudimos donar 607 pares de calcetines para personas sin hogar como parte del programa “Socktober”. En Octubre empezamos con los clubs de Chimes, Tecnología y Deportes y los estudiantes participantes están muy emocionados. Muy pronto comenzará un club de Coro y GOTR (Girls On The Run) comenzará en la primavera, asi que este al pendiente. El invierno comienza oficialmente en unas semanas, pero ya hace frío. Los niños salen al recreo cuando la temperatura está a 10 grados o más, tomando en cuenta el factor del viento. Por favor mande a sus hijos bien abrigados ya que sí salen al recreo. También sugerimos checar el clima todas las mañanas para que sepa que tan frío va estar. La enfermera Dewbray agradece donaciones de “pants” con la cintura elastica en tallas mediano y grande de niños. Estos “pants” ayudan para los niños en casos inesperados. Si usted recibió una carta avisando que su hijo/a reprobó el examen de la vista o auditiva en Noviembre, deberá consultar con su médico y regresar el examen a la enfermera de la escuela lo antes posible.
