6th European contact weekend for industrial heritage volunteers and associations

E-FAITH, the European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage is the European platform
promoting contacts and co-operation between non profit volunteer associations, the place where those can
meet, exchange experiences, learn from each other and support each other’s activities and campaigns.
After previous succesfull meetings in Beringen, Kortrijk, Barcelona, Calais and Tilburg (each attended by
representatives from a dozen countries) E-FAITH is now going to organize in London its sixth European contact
weekend for volunteers and non profit organisations that are engaged in the research, the preservation, the
interpretation and/or the presentation of the industrial and technical heritage.
Exchanging ideas is the very essence of these Industrial Heritage Weekends organised by the European
Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage (EFAITH).
The Weekend this October is being held in London and will provide enterprising volunteers and their
associations with an excellent opportunity to promote their restoration project, whether work in progress or
finished, to like-minded volunteers from all over Europe.
The main themes of this year's meeting are the challenges facing industrial heritage sites and associations.
During the meeting special attention will be given to:
- Promoting international volunteer co-operation for industrial heritage preservation.
- Exchange of ideas on restoration, raising capital and income, marketing, technical skills, training, safety
and other aspects of running projects successfully
- Presentations by volunteers and associations on existing projects and work in progress
One will continue the discussions started last year in Tilburg: the project for a European Industrial and Technical
Heritage Year (2015), twinning between industrial heritage associations and the conservation of old industrial
chimneys.
The Weekend begins in the afternoon of Friday 26th October with a guided walk in the Three Mills area in the
East End of London, with a chance to learn about the House Mill - said to be the largest tidal mill in the world,
which operated from the 1770s until 1940 - and the Abbey Mills pumping station.
Saturday 27th October will be devoted to presentations, exchange of ideas and discussion, followed by an early
evening visit to the Kirkaldy Testing Museum in Southwark. The presentations will be given in the lecture hall at
Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel, itself of I.A. interest as the place where Marconi first demonstrated his wireless in
the UK.
On Sunday morning 28th October, the focus will be on the voluntary theme and the challenges facing voluntary
museums and their staffing, with particular reference to increasing regulation and safety requirements. The
morning will end with a visit to the Kew Engines Museum when the huge Cornish Engines will be in steam.

E-FAITH, La Fédération Européenne des Associations du Patrimoine Industriel et Technique (European
Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage) est la plate-forme qui vise à promouvoir les
contacts et la coopération européenne entre les associations à but non lucratif, par la mise en place de lieux où
elles peuvent se rencontrer, échanger des expériences, apprendre de nouvelles compétences et soutenir les
activités des autres associations.
Après les précédentes réunions couronnées de succès (Beringen, Kortrijk, Barcelona, Calais et Tilburg) qui ont
accueilli chaque fois des représentants d'une douzaine de pays, E-FAITH organise dès à présent la tenue d’une
sixième rencontre européenne pour les bénévoles et les associations à but non lucratif engagés dans la
recherche, la conservation, l’interprétation et/ou la présentation du patrimoine industriel et technique.
L’essence même de ces rencontres, qui sont organisées par la Fédération Européenne des Associations du
Patrimoine Industriel et Technique, est d'échanger des informations et des idées.
Le week-end de cette-année-ci se tiendra à Londres en Octobre et fournira aux bénévoles entreprenants et à
leurs associations une excellente occasion de promouvoir leur projet de restauration, encore en cours ou
terminé, à des bénévoles et des organisations de toute l'Europe aux vues similaires.
Les thèmes principaux de la réunion de cette année sont les défis auxquels sont confrontés les sites du
patrimoine industriel et les associations.
Lors de la réunion une attention particulière sera accordée à
- la promotion de la coopération européenne transfrontalière entre les associations dans un but commun
de conserver et mettre en valeur le patrimoine industriel et de renforcer leurs actions;
- l’échange d’idées et d’expériences concernant la restauration et la mise en valeur du patrimoine
industriel, la mobilisation de capitaux et des revenus nécessaires à cet effet, le marketing, les
compétences techniques, la formation, la sécurité et d'autres aspects importants pour gérer avec succès
des projets en cours d'exécution ;
- Présentations par des bénévoles et des associations de leurs projets et travaux en cours.
Lors des réunions à Londres les discussions qui ont commencé l’année passée à Tilburg vont être poursuivies et
approfondies:
- la Campagne pour une Année européenne du patrimoine industriel et technique (2015) ;
- le jumelage entre les associations;
- la conservation et la mise en valeur d’anciennes cheminées industrielles;
- le développement et la promotion par des associations de projets et itinéraires transfrontaliers;
- etc.
Le week-end commencera dans l'après-midi du vendredi 26 octobre avec une visite guidée de la région ‘Three
Mills’ (Trois Moulins) dans l'East End de Londres, en visitant le House Mill - soi-disant le plus grand moulin à
marée dans le monde, qui a fonctionné à partir des années 1770 jusqu'en 1940 - et la station de pompage des
eaux d’ Abbey Mills.
Le samedi 27 octobre sera consacré à des présentations, des échanges d'idées et des discussions, suivis d'une
visite en début de soirée au Kirkaldy Testing Museum dans le quartier du Southwark. Les présentations seront
données dans la salle de conférence du Toynbee Hall, à Whitechapel, lui-même d'un intérêt pour le patrimoine
industriel comme lieu où Marconi démontra pour la première fois au Royaume-Uni son système de
radiotélégraphie.
Le dimanche matin, 28 Octobre, l'accent sera mis sur le thème du volontariat et les défis auxquels sont
confrontés les musées gérés par des bénévoles et leur dotation en personnel, avec une référence particulière à
la réglementation croissante et les exigences de sécurité. Le matin se terminera par une visite au Kew Engines
Museum, où les énormes machines à balancier, système Cornouailles, seront sous vapeur.

Vereine aus verschiedenen Ländern treffen werden

Einladung und Aufruf zum Einreichen von Artikeln/Vorträgen (Call-for-Papers)
E-FAITH, the European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage (der Europäische Verband
der Vereine zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes) ist die europäische Plattform für
Zusammenarbeit und Austausch, wo Freiwillige und Vereine sich treffen, voneinander lernen und einander
unterstützen können.
In allen Ländern Europas gründen sich die Erforschung, der Erhalt und die Erschließung von industriellem und
technischem Erbe hauptsächlich auf den Einsatz unzähliger Freiwilliger und nichtstaatlicher Organisationen.
Ohne ihr Engagement wären viele industrie-archäologisch bedeutsame Denkmäler, Gegenstände und
Dokumente, Zeugen von der Geburt und vom Wachstum der Industriegesellschaft für immer verloren gegangen.
Ihr uneigennütziges und unentgeltliches Engagement wird jedoch von Behörden und Instituten noch manchmal
unterbewertet.
Nach vorhergehenden erfolgreichen Treffen in Beringen (B), Kortrijk (B), Barcelona (E) , Calais (F) und Tilburg
(NL), mit Teilnehmern aus 12 verschiedenen Ländern, organisiert E-FAITH am Wochenende des 26. bis 28
Oktober 2012 ein 6. Europäisches Wochenende zum Erhalt des industriellen und technischen Erbes, an dem
Freiwillige und Vereine aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern neue internationale Kontakte knüpfen können.
Es wird abermals ein offenes Treffen sein, bei dem Gruppen und Personen ihre Ideen, Arbeiten und Projekte
präsentieren und vergleichen können. Dies geschieht mittels Prospekten, Informationsständen, kleinen
Ausstellungen, kurzen Vorlesungen oder Präsentationen
Der Austausch von Ideen ist der wesentliche Inhalt von diesen Wochenenden zum Erhalt des industriellen und
technischen Erbes, welche von dem Europäischen Verband der Vereine zum Erhalt des industriellen und
technischen Erbes (E-FAITH) durchgeführt werden.
Das Wochenende im Oktober wird in London abgehalten und wird Freiwilligen und den Vereinen die
ausgezeichnete Möglichkeit bieten, ihr Restaurationsprojekt, sei es noch in Arbeit oder bereits beendet, gleich
gesinnten Freiwilligen aus ganz Europa zu präsentieren.
Die Hauptthemen der Sitzung sind die Herausforderungen, denen sich Orte des industriellen Erbes und die
Vereine gegenüberstehen.
Während des Treffens wird die besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet sein
- der Förderung von internationalen Freiwilligen- Kooperationen zum Erhalt des technischen und
industriellen Erbes.
- Dem Austausch von Ideen bezüglich Restaurierung, Auftreiben von Kapital und Einnahmen, Marketing,
technischem Know-how, Training, Sicherheit und anderen Aspekten von erfolgreich laufenden Projekten
- Präsentationen von Freiwilligen und Vereinen über bestehende Projekte und Projekte in Arbeit
Es werden auch Diskussionen fortgeführt, die während der vergangenen Treffen begonnen wurden:
- Das Europäische Jahr (2015) des Industriellen und Technischen Erbes,
- Die Erhaltung alter Fabrikschornsteine
- Partnerschaften zwischen Vereinen
- Europäische grenzüberschreitende Zusammenarbeit zwischen Vereinen zum Erhalt des Industriellen und
Technisches Erbes
- Möglichkeiten und Ideen für gemeinsame europäische Projekte und europäische Netzwerke und
Organisation der Solidarität zwischen den Vereinen
Das Wochenende beginnt am Freitagnachmittag, 26. Oktober, mit einer geführten Tour im Bereich Three Mills
im East End von London, mit der Möglichkeit, Mills House kennen zu lernen- von dem es heißt, dass es die
größte Gezeiten-Mühle der Welt ist, die von den 1770 Jahren an bis 1940 betrieben wurde- sowie die Abbey
Mills Pumpenstation.
Samstag, 27 Oktober wird den Präsentationen, dem Austausch von Ideen und Diskussionen gewidmet sein,
gefolgt am frühen Abend von einem Besuch des Kirkaldy Testing Museums in Southwark. Die Präsentationen
erfolgen in der Vortragshalle von Toynbee Hall in Whitechapel, von hervorragendem Interesse als dem Ort, an
dem Marconi zuerst die drahtlose Kommunikation in Großbritannien vorführte.
Am Sonntagmorgen, dem 28. Oktober wird der Schwerpunkt auf dem Thema Freiwilligkeit liegen sowie den
Herausforderungen, denen Museen auf freiwilliger Basis und deren Mitarbeiter ausgesetzt sind, insbesondere
im Hinblick auf die zunehmende Regulierung und sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen. Der Vormittag wird
enden mit einem Besuch im Kew Engines Museum, wenn die riesigen Cornish Enginges unter Dampf stehen.

6º Encuentro europeo de voluntarios y asociaciones de patrimonio industrial y técnico

E-FAITH, la Federación Europea de Asociaciones de Patrimonio Industrial y Técnico (European Federation of
Assotiation of Industrial and Technical Heritage) es la plataforma sin ánimo de lucro que tiene como objetivo
promover los contactos y la cooperación entre los europeos , mediante la convocatoria de una reunión en un
lugar donde puedan reunirse, intercambiar experiencias, aprender nuevas habilidades y apoyar las actividades
de otras asociaciones.
Después del éxito de las reuniones previas de (Beringen, Kortrijk, Barcelona, Calais y Tilburg), con asistencia de
representantes de más de una docena de países, E-FAITH celebra la sexta reunión europea para los voluntarios
y associaciones sin fines de lucro dedicada a la investigación, conservación, interpretación y / o disposición de
patrimonio industrial y técnico
La esencia de estas reuniones, organizadas por la Federación Europea de Asociaciones de Patrimonio Industrial y
Técnico, es el intercambio de información y de ideas.
El fin de semana de este año se llevará a cabo en Londres en octubre y proporcionará a los voluntarios,
emprendedores y a sus organizaciones una excelente oportunidad para promover proyectos de restauración,
todavía en proceso o terminados, entre los voluntarios y organizaciones de toda Europa.
Los temas principales de la reunión de este año son los desafíos a los que se enfrentan los sitios del patrimonio
industrial y sus asociaciones.
En la reunión se prestará especial atención a
- La promoción de la cooperación transfronteriza europea entre las asociaciones con un objetivo común
de preservar y mejorar el patrimonio industrial y fortalecer sus acciones;
- El intercambio de ideas y experiencias sobre la restauración y valorización del patrimonio industrial, la
obtención de capital y los ingresos necesarios para tal fin, el marketing, habilidades técnicas,
capacitación en seguridad, y otros aspectos importantes para la gestión de los proyectos en curso;
- Presentaciones a cargo de voluntarios y asociaciones de sus proyectos y trabajos en curso.
En las reuniones de Londres, se profundizará en los temas que se iniciaron el año pasado en Tilburg :
- Campaña para el Año Europeo del Patrimonio Industrial y Técnico (2015);
- Hermanamiento entre asociaciones
- Conservación y desarrollo de las viejas chimeneas industriales;
- Desarrollo y promoción de las asociaciones y los proyectos de rutas transfronterizas;
- Etc.
El fin de semana se iniciará en la tarde del Viernes, 26 de octubre con un recorrido por la región “Three Mills’ en
el East End de Londres, visitando la 'House Mill' – parece ser que es el mayor molino de mareas del mundo, que
funcionó desde la década de 1770 hasta 1940 - y la estación de bombeo de agua en Abbey Mills.
El sábado 27 de octubre se dedicará a las presentaciones, al intercambio de ideas y a las discusiones, seguido
por una visita durante la tarde al Museo Kirkaldy Testing en el distrito de Southwark. Las presentaciones se
harán en la sala de conferencias de Toynbee Hall, en Whitechapel, lugar que tiene un interés para el patrimonio
industrial como el lugar donde Marconi demostró por primera vez en el Reino Unido el sistema de telegrafía sin
hilos.
La mañana del Domingo, 28 de octubre, se centrará en el tema del voluntariado y los desafíos a los que se
enfrentan los museos gestionados por los voluntarios , con especial referencia a la regulación cada vez mayor y a
los requisitos de seguridad. La mañana concluirá con una visita al Museo Kew Engines, donde los motores del
sistema Cornualles funcionarán a vapor.

6° incontro europeo per volontari e associazioni operanti nell'ambito del patrimonio industriale

E-FAITH (European Federation of Associations of Industrial and Technical Heritage, la Federazione Europea di
Associazioni per il Patrimonio Industriale e Tecnologico) è una piattaforma europea che promuove relazioni e
cooperazione tra associazioni culturali non a scopo di lucro, mettendo a disposizione un luogo d'incontro dove
queste possano scambiare le proprie esperienze, acquisire nuove informazioni e conoscenze, darsi vicendevole
supporto su progetti o attività .
Dopo il successo degli incontri di Beringen (B), Kortrijk (B), Barcellona (E) Calais (F) e Tilburg (NL), ad ognuno dei
quali hanno partecipato rappresentanti di una dozzina di paesi, E-FAITH sta ora organizzando il 6° incontro
europeo per volontari e associazioni impegnate nella ricerca, salvaguardia e conoscenza del patrimonio
industriale e tecnico.
Lo scambio di idee è la vera essenza di questi weekend dedicati al patrimonio industriale, organizzati da E-FAITH,
la Federazione Europea di Associazioni per il Patrimonio Industriale e Tecnologico.
Il weekend di questo Ottobre si terrà a Londra e fornirà ai volontari partecipanti e alle loro associazioni
l'eccellente opportunità di promuovere i loro progetti, in corso o già terminati, ad altri volontari da tutta Europa
con le stesse idee.
I temi principali dell'incontro di quest'anno sono le sfide che incontrano i siti e le associazioni del patrimonio
industriale.
Durante il meeting verrà data una particolare attenzione
- alla promozione della cooperazione internazionale tra volontari per la conservazione del patrimonio
industriale.
- allo scambio di idee su: restauro, raccolta di capitali e profitti, marketing, competenze tecniche,
formazione, sicurezza e altri aspetti per gestire con successo i progetti
- alla presentazione da parte di volontari e associazioni su progetti esistenti e in corso di svolgimento
Verrà proseguita anche la discussione iniziata l'anno scorso a Tilburg: il progetto per un "Anno del Patrimonio
Tecnologico e Industriale Europeo" (2015), la conservazione delle antiche ciminiere industriali, il gemellaggio tra
le associazioni del patrimonio industriale e lo sviluppo di reti europee e la solidarietà tra di esse.
Il weekend avrà inizio nel pomeriggio di Venerdì 26 Ottobre con una visita guidata nell'area di Three Mills,
nell'East End londinese, in cui si avrà l'occasione di imparare qualcosa sull'House Mill - conosciuto come il più
grande mulino a marea del mondo e in funzione dal 1776 al 1940 - e sulla stazione di pompaggio di Abbey Mills.
Il Sabato 27 Ottobre sarà dedicato alle presentazioni, allo scambio di idee e alla discussione, seguito da una
visita nel tardo pomeriggio al Kirkaldy Testing Museum a Southwark. Le presentazioni avranno luogo nella sala
letture di Toynbee Hall a Whitechapel, anch'esso luogo interessante per l'archeologia industriale in quanto qui
Marconi dimostrò per la prima volta la sua tecnologia senza fili nel Regno Unito.
La mattina di Domenica 28 Ottobre, l'attenzione sarà concentrata sul tema del volontariato e delle sfide che
incontrano i musei volontari e i loro staff, con particolare riferimento alla crescente regolamentazione e ai
requisiti di sicurezza. La mattina terminerà con una visita al Kew Engines Museum, dove i grandi motori a vapore
Cornovaglia saranno messi in funzione.
