The Manifestation of the Son of man: Beginning of the new
times, Beware! It can happen at any time!
Today's reading might seem to be a real "downer." Just as we are beginning
the new liturgical year, we hear Jesus' reminders to "be vigilant" and "pray."
Meditate on the discourse of Jesus on the end of the world. Today, when we
speak of the end of the world, the reactions are quite varied. Some are
fearful. Others are indifferent. Others begin to take life more seriously.
Others still, as soon as they hear some terrible news, say: “The end of the
world is drawing near!” Advent is a time of preparation for Jesus' final
coming. Jesus, the just one, who will judge us in the final days of human
history, wants us to be able to stand up like true Christians when that time
comes. Decide how you will show that you have heard Jesus' words on this
first day of Advent.

nuevos tiempos ¡Atención! ¡Dios puede llegar en cada
momento!
El evangelio de hoy puede ser algo deprimente. Justamente al iniciar el año litúrgico, escuchamos que Jesús
nos recuerda estar "atentos" y "orar".
Meditar el discurso de Jesús sobre el fin del mundo. Hoy, cuando se habla tanto del fin del mundo, las
posiciones son muy variadas. Algunos tienen miedo. Otros permanecen indiferentes.
Otros comienzan a vivir con más seriedad. Y todavía otros, cuando oyen una terrible noticia, exclaman:
“¡El fin del mundo está
cerca!” El Adviento es un tiempo de preparación para la segunda venida de
Jesús, el justo, quien juzgará a todos al final de la historia humana, quiere que seamos capaces de estar de
pie como verdaderos cristianos cuando el tiempo llegue.

estudio y de investigación, conducción de casas de formación para religiosos y laicos.

Next year, 2016 I will celebrate the 20th anniversary of my “1996 Year of Grace”.
It was in 1996 that I had three important religious events in my life: Perpetual
Profession (April 25, Rome, Italy); Deaconate Ordination (June 16, Milan, Italy);
Priesthood Ordination (December 28, Iloilo, Philippines). In obedience to the
will of God and having embraced missionary availability, I was assigned in the
following missions of the Scalabrinians around the world: Santa Maria del Carmine Parish, Milan, Italy (1996-1997); Holy Rosary, Sun Valley (1997-1998); Theology Seminary, Chicago (1998-2003); Philosophy Seminary, Jakarta, Indonesia
(2003-2004); Novitiate, Cebu, Philippines (2004-2009); St. Helen Parish, Burnaby,
BC-Canada (2009-2013); St. Lucy Parish, Chicago (2013-2015). I am serving
also as Provincial Procurator from 2012 to present. Recently, I requested to have
missionary experience in South Africa particularly in Cape Town pier for there
are plenty of Filipino seafarers, who are using our center there, but it was not granted and instead I was
asked to serve this Parish of Holy
Rosary. As I struggle to understand God’s will (through my Superior’s discernment), I remember that I
usually discribe Holy Rosary Parish as my “first love in U.S.A.”. I was a seven month old priest when I first
arrived here in 1997 and short lived was my stay, yet very meaningful and memorable. Truly some of you
may believe that first love never dies and so returning 18 years after, the song of Frank Sinatra comes to
mind: “Love is lovier, the second time around.... there are those who'd bet love comes but once, and yet I'm
oh, so glad we met the second time around”.

provide. If you wish to donate a toy select
any ornament hanging from the Giving Tree,
and return the toy next Sunday at church or drop it off
at the parish office on
