Magnet Awareness Thursdays
Conscious Discipline
If you know of someone wanting to attend
Berry Elementary next school year, inform
them of the following:
Every Thursday from October 6, 2016 through
December 8, 2016 (except for Thanksgiving),
Berry will be open for magnet tours at 9:00am
for potential new students.
Our brain is pattern seeking, in other words, it
tends to follow a routine, a sequence of regular
and familiar actions. For example, every
morning we wake up and do things in a specific
order on a regular basis from being in bed to
being ready to go to work. Those routines help
us transition better to the next step. Children that
have set routines at home; experience the
transition from home to school easier and feel
emotionally safer, which reflects on their
behavior in class and in general. How can we
create a routine at home? Our brain works and
focuses more optimally when it follows routines
that are visual, so I recommend to start by
creating a simple book of schedule with pictures
of routines, for example bed time: After taking a
bath, put on your PJ’s, brush your teeth, pick a
book and read for 5 min, close your book and put
it away, say good night to mom and dad, lights
off, time to sleep. Take a picture of every step,
attach it to the routine book/schedule in order
and add a brief description to each. Every day
go over the routines with your child, knowing
what follows next will help his/her brain focus on
the task at hand and prepare for what comes
next. If your child refuses to follow a routine
step, lovingly remind them what the next step is.
It takes some time to get used to the routine, but
once established you will likely see a positive
change in attitude and behavior. I’d love to hear
your feedback and any questions that can help
your child be more successful.

Field Trips
Several field trips are scheduled for the month
of October (see calendar). Make sure you
have registered thru VIPS if you would like to
be a chaperone for your child’s field trip.
Technocycle Computer Giveaway
1st Grade Families – Mark your Calendar
Technocycle will be providing a fully
operational computer for your home use, free
of charge to all 1st grade families. The event
will take place Saturday, October 22, 2016.
Parent letters will be sent home with details
about your scheduled time.

Chuck e Cheese

on Thursday, October 20th from 3:00pm to
9:00pm at the Northline
Chuck e Cheese’s. Your child will receive 10
free tokens when they attend Berry Family

de Technocycle
Familias de Primer Grado – Marquen sus

Technocycle obsequiara una computadora
completamente funcional para el uso en casa,
gratis para todas las familias de Primer grado.
Este evento será el día sábado 22 de octubre
del 2016. Padres, se mandaran cartas con
detalles acerca de la hora prevista.

Pronto llega el desfile de Personajes de
un libro
Recibirían mas información acerca del desfile
por parte del(a) maestro(a) de su hijo(a) acerca
del tema escogido y detalles.
Disciplina Consciente
Nuestro cerebro busca patrones, en otras palabras,
tiende a seguir una rutina, una secuencia de acciones
regulares y familiares. Por ejemplo, cada mañana nos
levantamos de la cama y casi siempre hacemos cosas
en un orden específico, desde estar en la cama hasta
estar listos para ir a trabajar. Esas rutinas nos ayudan
a pasar mejor al siguiente paso. Los niños que tienen
rutinas establecidas en la casa, experimentan el paso
de la casa a la escuela más fácil y se sienten más
seguros emocionalmente, lo cual se refleja en su
comportamiento en clase y en general. ¿Cómo
podemos crear una rutina en casa? Nuestro cerebro
trabaja y se enfoca de manera más óptima cuando
sigue rutinas que son visuales, entonces yo
recomiendo que empiece creando un libro u horario
sencillo con fotos de rutinas, por ejemplo, tiempo de ir
a la cama: después de tomar un baño, ponte la pijama,
lávate los dientes, toma un libro para leer y lee por 5
minutos, cierra tu libro y guárdalo, di buenas noches a
mamá y papá, apaga las luces, acuéstate a dormir.
Tome una foto de cada paso, péguela en el
libro/horario en orden, y agregue una corta descripción
a cada una. Cada día repase las rutinas con su hijo,
saber que sigue le ayudará a su cerebro a enfocarse
en lo que está haciendo y lo prepara para lo que sigue.
Si su hijo(a) no quiere seguir uno de los pasos,
amorosamente recuérdele cuál es ese siguiente paso.
Tomará algún tiempo acostumbrarse a la rutina, pero
una vez que la establezca muy probablemente verá un
cambio positivo en actitud y comportamiento. Me
encantaría escuchar de su experiencia y cualquier
pregunta que pueda ayudar a su hijo a ser más
exitoso.
Noche Divertida de Familia en
Chuck e Cheese
Usted está invitado para asistir a nuestra noche
divertida de familia el día jueves, octubre 20 de
3:00pm a 9:00pm en Chuck e Cheese’s de
Northline. Su hijo/a recibirá 10 fichas gratis al asistir
la Noche Familiar! Traiga a su familia a Chuck e
Cheese, comparta con amigos, y ayude a recaudar
fondos para útiles y materiales para nuestros
estudiantes de Berry.
