Building Stronger Families by Building Stronger Communities What is Best Start? Through Best Start, First 5 LA is using a place-based approach to build a familycentered movement. The most important part of this process is that parents and caregivers, residents and community-based organizations strengthen skills and build connections to tackle issues affecting the children and families in their community. How Does Best Start Work? Research shows that families do better when they live in strong, supportive communities. Best Start is about strengthening communities: parents, residents, organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to collectively build a vision and develop strategies to strengthen families and the communities where they live. A key component of Best Start is community capacity building, which provides the space for parents and caregivers, to strengthen their abilities to advocate for themselves and their communities. Through the Best Start Community Partnership, members contribute their ideas, share their experiences and connect with others so that together they can take action and be a voice for change. The Best Start community partnership works together to: • P rioritize early child care and education, clean places and spaces and early childhood health • Learn about issues affecting young children and their families and develop strategies and solutions • Connect families to each other and to local services and resources Best Start is an investment of First 5 LA, a leading early childhood advocate working in partnership with others to strengthen families, communities and systems of services and supports so that all children in L.A. County enter kindergarten ready to succeed in school and life. How Can I Get Involved? • Educate and support the broader community Everyone can play a role in ensuring our children have the Best Start in life! Una pieza clave de Best Start es el desarrollo de la capacidad comunitaria, la cual brinda un espacio para que madres, padres y cuidadores fortalezcan sus habilidades de abogacía personal y para sus comunidades. A través de la Asociación Comunitaria Best Start, los miembros aportan sus ideas, comparten experiencias y conectan entre sí para que en conjunto puedan tomar acción y ser la voz para el cambio. La Asociación Comunitaria Best Start trabaja en conjunto para: • H acer prioridad el cuidado y la educacion temprana, espacios y lugares limpios, y la salud en la infancia temprana • A prender sobre los problemas que afectan a la niñez y a sus familias y desarrollar estrategias y soluciones • C onectar a las familias entre sí y con servicios y recursos locales Best Start es una inversión de First 5 LA, una organización líder en la defensa de la infancia temprana trabajando en asociación con otras organizaciones para fortalecer a las familias, comunidades, sistemas de servicios y apoyos para que todas las niñas y los niños en el Condado de L.A. entren al kínder listos para triunfar en la escuela y en la vida.
