U
n fariseo invitó a Jesús a comer con él. Jesús entró en la casa y se sentó a la mesa.
Entonces una mujer pecadora que vivía en la ciudad, al enterarse de que Jesús estaba comiendo en
casa del fariseo, se presentó con un frasco de perfume.
Y colocándose detrás de él, se puso a llorar a sus pies y comenzó a bañarlos con sus lágrimas; los
secaba con sus cabellos, los cubría de besos y los ungía con perfume.
Al ver esto, el fariseo que lo había invitado pensó: "Si este hombre fuera profeta, sabría quién es la
mujer que lo toca y lo que ella es: ¡una pecadora!".
Pero Jesús le dijo: "Simón, tengo algo que decirte". "Di, Maestro!", respondió él.
"Un prestamista tenía dos deudores: uno le debía quinientos denarios, el otro cincuenta.
Como no tenían con qué pagar, perdonó a ambos la deuda. ¿Cuál de los dos lo amará más?".
Simón contestó: "Pienso que aquel a quien perdonó más". Jesús le dijo: "Has juzgado bien".
Y volviéndose hacia la mujer, dijo a Simón: "¿Ves a esta mujer? Entré en tu casa y tú no derramaste
agua sobre mis pies; en cambio, ella los bañó con sus lágrimas y los secó con sus cabellos.
Tú no me besaste; ella, en cambio, desde que entré, no cesó de besar mis pies.
Tú no ungiste mi cabeza; ella derramó perfume sobre mis pies.
Por eso te digo que sus pecados, sus numerosos pecados, le han sido perdonados porque ha demostrado mucho amor. Pero aquel a quien se le perdona poco, demuestra poco amor".
Después dijo a la mujer: "Tus pecados te son perdonados".
Los invitados pensaron: "¿Quién es este hombre, que llega hasta perdonar los pecados?".
Pero Jesús dijo a la mujer: "Tu fe te ha salvado, vete en paz".
Después, Jesús recorría las ciudades y los pueblos, predicando y anunciando la Buena Noticia del Reino de Dios. Lo
acompañaban los Doce
y también algunas mujeres que habían sido curadas de malos espíritus y enfermedades: María, llamada Magdalena, de la que
habían salido siete demonios;
Juana, esposa de Cusa, intendente de Herodes, Susana y muchas otras, que los ayudaban con sus bienes.

Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him, and he entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.
Now there was a sinful woman in the city who learned that he was at table in the house of the
Pharisee. Bringing an alabaster flask of ointment,
she stood behind him at his feet weeping and began to bathe his feet with her tears. Then she
wiped them with her hair, kissed them, and anointed them with the ointment.
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet,
he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner."
Jesus said to him in reply, "Simon, I have something to say to you." "Tell me, teacher," he said.
Two people were in debt to a certain creditor; one owed five hundred days' wages and the other
owed fifty.
Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him
more?"
Simon said in reply, "The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven." He said to him, "You
have judged rightly."
Then he turned to the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? When I entered your
house, you did not give me water for my feet, but she has bathed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
You did not give me a kiss, but she has not ceased kissing my feet since the time I entered.
You did not anoint my head with oil, but she anointed my feet with ointment.
So I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven; hence, she has shown great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little."
He said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
The others at table said to themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?"
But he said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
Afterward he journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources

Pope’s Morning Homily: We Must Wait for God in Silence

t his morning Mass today in Casa Santa
Marta, Pope Francis focused on three attitudes that are characteristic of the Christian:
“standing” before God in “silence” to hear
His voice, and readiness to “go out” into the
world to proclaim what one has heard to others. The Pope also warned against the danger
of paralyzing fear in Christian life, no matter
where one is in one’s journey with God and
regardless of one’s state of life in the Church:

Standing upright and walking
To explore this issue, and how to escape the
tunnel of fear, the Pope focused on the the
prophet Elijah, from whose book the First
Reading of the Day was taken. The Holy
Father recalled how Elijah was victorious,
how he “fought so much for the faith,” and
defeated hundreds of idolaters on Mount Carmel. Then, he reaches a breaking point: one
of the many acts of persecution aimed at him
finally hit its mark, and he collapses in discouragement under a tree, waiting to die –
except that God does not leave him in that
state of prostration, but sends an angel with
an imperative: get up, eat, go out:
“To meet God it is necessary to go back to
the situation where the man was at the time
of creation, standing and walking. Thus did
God create us: capable of standing full upright before Him, in his image and likeness,
and on our way with Him. ‘Go, go ahead:
cultivate the land, make it grow; and multiply.’ [Then, to Elijah], ‘Enough! Go out and
go up to the mountain and stand on the
mountaintop in my presence.’ Elijah stood up
on his feet, he set off on his way.”
The strain of a sonorous silence
Go out, and then to listen to God: only how
can one be sure to meet the Lord on the way?
Elijah was invited by the angel to go out of
the cave on Mount Horeb, where he found
shelter to stand in the “presence” of God.
However, it is not the “mighty and strong”
wind that splits the rocks, nor the earthquake
that follows, nor even the fire that follows,
which finally induces Elijah to go out:
“So much noise, so much majesty, so much
bustle – and the Lord was not there. ‘After
the fire, the whisper of a gentle breeze’ or, as
it is in the original, ‘the strain of a sonorous
silence’: and the Lord is there, speaking to us
in it.
The hour of the mission
The angel’s third request to Elijah is: “Go
out.” The prophet is invited to retrace his
steps, to the desert, because he was given an
assignment to fulfill. In this, emphasizes
Francis, is captured the stimulus “to be on the
way, not closed, not within the selfishness of
our comfort,” but “brave” in “bringing to
others the message of the Lord,” which is to
say, “[to go on a] ‘mission’”:
“We must always seek the Lord. We all
know how are the bad moments: moments
that pull us down, moments without faith,
dark, times when we do not see the horizon,
we are unable to get up. “We all know this,
but but it is the Lord who comes, who refreshes us with bread and with his strength
and says: ‘Arise and be on your way! Walk!’
In order to meet the Lord we must be so:
standing upright and on our way; then waiting for Him speak to us, with an open heart;
and He will say, ‘It is I’ and there faith becomes strong – [and] is this faith for me to
keep? No: It is for us to bring to others, to
anoint others with it – it is for mission.”

l papa Francisco ha asegurado que la
vida del cristiano se puede resumir en tres
actitudes: estar “de pie” para acoger a Dios,
en paciente “silencio” para escuchar la voz,
“en salida” para anunciarlo a otros. Así lo ha
indicado en la homilía de este viernes en la
misa celebrada en Santa Marta.
Además, ha advertido de que puedes ser un
pecador arrepentido que ha decidido comenzar de nuevo con Dios o también un pre
elegido que ha consagrado la vida a Él. En
cualquier caso “te puede asaltar el miedo de
no conseguirlo, puedes entrar en un estado
de depresión cuando la fe se vuelve borrosa”. Así, el Papa ha evocado la situación del
hijo pródigo, deprimido mientras mira hambriento a los cerdos, pero sobre todo se ha
concentrado en el personaje de la liturgia del
día, el profeta Elías.
Un “vencedor” que “ha luchado mucho por
la fe”, ha derrotado a cientos de idólatras en
el Monte Carmelo, ha recordado el Santo
Padre. Y cuando está bajo un árbol esperando morir, Dios no le deja en ese estado de
postración, sino que le envía un ángel con un
imperativo: levántate, come, sal.
Al respecto, el papa Francisco ha indicado
que “para encontrar a Dios es necesario
volver a la situación en la cual el hombre
estaba en el momento de la creación: de pie
y en camino”. Así es como nos ha creado
Dios: a su altura, a su imagen y semejanza y
en camino.
Salir, escuchar a Dios. “¿Cómo puedo encontrar al Señor para estar seguro de que es
Él?”, se ha preguntado el Pontífice. El pasaje
del Libro de los Reyes es elocuente. Así, el
Santo Padre ha recordado que Elías es enviado por el ángel a salir de la cueva del Monte
Horeb donde ha encontrado refugio para
estar en la “presencia” de Dios.
Sin embargo, para inducirle a salir no sirve ni
el viento “poderoso y fuerte” que divide las
rocas, ni el terremoto que le sigue, y tampoco el fuego sucesivo, ha precisado Francisco. Al respecto ha observado que tanto alboroto, tanta majestuosidad, tanto movimiento y el Señor no estaba allí. Y después
del fuego, llega el susurro de una brisa ligera,
“el hilo de un silencio sonoro”. Allí estaba el
Señor, ha asegurado Francisco. “Para encontrar al Señor, es necesario entrar en nosotros mismos y escuchar ese ‘hilo de un silen-
cio sonoro’ y Él que nos habla allí”, ha añadido.
A continuación, el Santo Padre ha observado
que la tercera petición del ángel a Elías es:
“sal”. En esta línea, ha especificado que el
profeta es enviado a volver sobre sus pasos,
hacia el desierto, porque le es confiado un
encargo para cumplir. Así, ha subrayado el
Papa, se toma el estímulo para “estar en camino, no cerrado, no dentro de nuestro
egoísmo de nuestra comodidad” sino
“valientes” en el “llevar a los otros el mensaje del Señor”, es decir de ir en “misión”.
El Santo Padre ha asegurado que “debemos
siempre buscar al Señor” porque todos sabemos “cómo son los momentos difíciles”. Y
aquí es el Señor el que “viene, nos restaura
con el pan y con su fuerza y nos dice:
‘levántate y ve adelante’”.
Finalmente, el papa Francisco ha asegurado
que para encontrar al Señor debemos estar así: en pie y en camino. Después,
“esperar a que Él nos hable: corazón abierto”. Y Él nos dirá: ‘soy yo’ y allí la fe se hará
fuerte. La fe –ha concluido– no es para mí, es
para ir y darla a los otros, para ungir a los
otros, para la misión.
