English Support Classes 2016-Clases de Apoyo para Examen de

Dear Parents of 4YL students,
I write again regarding the 2015 IGCSE results. As you will know, it has been determined that
the school will offer formal classes in preparation for re-sits of IGCSE examinations in English
as a Second Language and First Language English. The exams for these subjects will take place
in November 2016, and the classes of preparation will begin in the week following the Autumn
Break (i.e. the week beginning Monday 28th March). The timetable for these classes will be as
follows:

These are support classes for subjects already studied and exams already taken. Students will
not be able to change to from First to Second Language or vice versa, on the simple logic that
they would only have one year to prepare for a course designed to be studied over two years.
Considerable and reasonable concern was expressed at the 4YL informative meeting, that this
timetable clashed with the sports practices for 4YL students. I am pleased to say that we have
managed to move the practices for rugby, and football, and that those for hockey already happen
at a later hour. Specifically, these are the practice hours for 4YL sports:

The re-sit classes will occur on every day that the school is functioning (i.e. not during the winter
nor spring breaks). These classes will end with the respective IGCSE examinations
(First
Language English 02 11 2016; English as a Second Language 17 10 2016).
As was stated during the 4YL informative meeting, it is not obligatory that students re-take
failed IGCSE subjects. However, once a student/family commits to attending these additional
classes of preparation then this does become an obligation.
If your child did not pass IGCSE First or Second Language English Examinations in 2015, and
you wish them to attend support classes in preparation for the examination re-take in
October/November 2016, please complete the slip below and return this to
[email protected] by Thursday, 17th March.

Me dirijo nuevamente a ustedes con respecto a los resultados de IGCSE. Como sabrán, se ha
determinado que el colegio ofrecerá clases formales para preparar nuevamente los exámenes de
IGCSE de Inglés como Segundo Idioma e Inglés como Primer Idioma. Los exámenes de estas
materias tendrán lugar en noviembre de 2016 y las clases de preparación comenzarán en la
semana posterior a Turismo (es decir, la semana que comienza el lunes 28 de marzo). El horario
de estas clases será el siguiente:

Estas son clases de apoyo para materias ya cursadas y con exámenes que ya rendidos. Los
alumnos no podrán cambiar de Primer a Segundo Idioma o viceversa, debido a que ellos
tendrían solamente un año para preparar un curso que ha sido diseñado para estudiarse en más
de dos años.
En la reunión informativa de 4° Año de Liceo quedó manifestada una gran preocupación, y a
la vez razonable, acerca de que este horario coincidía con las prácticas deportivas para los
alumnos de 4° Año de Liceo. Tengo el agrado de informarles que hemos logrado mover las
prácticas de rugby y football – las prácticas de hockey ya se estaban realizando más tarde.
Concretamente, los horarios de las prácticas deportivas para alumnos de 4° Año de Liceo se
muestran en el siguiente detalle:

Las clases de preparación de los exámenes tendrán lugar durante todos los días en que el colegio
esté en funcionamiento, esto significa que no ocurrirán durante las vacaciones de invierno ni
de primavera. Estas clases finalizarán con los exámenes de IGCSE respectivos (Inglés como
Primer Idioma: 02 11 2016; Inglés como Segundo Idioma: 17 10 2016).
De acuerdo a lo establecido en la reunión informativa de 4° Año de Liceo, no es obligatorio
que los alumnos rindan nuevamente las materias de IGCSE que perdieron. Sin embargo,
una vez que los alumnos/familias se comprometan a asistir a estas clases adicionales de
preparación, las mismas serán obligatorias.
Si su hijo/a no pasó los exámenes de IGCSE de Inglés como Primer o Segundo Idioma en 2015,
y usted desea que asista a las clases de apoyo en la preparación para el examen que rendirá en
octubre/noviembre de 2016, solicitamos completar el siguiente talón y devolverlo a
[email protected], a más tardar el jueves, 17 de marzo.
