“Virtue is nothing without the trial of temptation, for there is no conflict

T
his Sunday is known, generally, as
"Good Shepherd Sunday." Every year,
the readings on this Sunday deal in one
way or another with Christ, the Shepherd. Here,
He calls each sheep by name. In other words, the
Shepherd has made a "pet" of each sheep in His
flock. YOU, with all your nuttiness, sinfulness,
rebelliousness, and general obnoxiousness are the
personal "pet" of the Good Shepherd. God seeks
you out, puts you on His metaphorical shoulders
and leads you Home. The Bible recounts the odd
places God finds us, from slavery in Egypt, to
oppression in Babylon, to the proverbial "pig
pen" in Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son. God
finds us and brings us back. If you are "back,"
now--in a good, and safe place, be grateful. If
you are not, help is on the way. But one thing to
consider on Good Shepherd Sunday is that the
"hands and feet of God" are very much our
own...God uses us to do His shepherding! He
sees His "pet" in peril, and puts us, another "pet,"
in just the right place to do something to help.
Who needs YOUR help, right now?

G
-Padre Bill Axe

T
he readings today talk to us about following the “voice” of the one who leads
us to God. Christ used the image of
sheep, as it was very familiar to the Jews, not so
much with us. We are not asked to succumb to an
unthinking herd mentality, but to listen discerningly to the call of Christ. God wants us to come
to know the voice of Jesus, so that we will not
mistake it for other voices. We can ask ourselves:
How can I tell the voice of Jesus from other
voices that might call to me? What are some of
the perils of falling into the “herd instinct”?
I wish all Mothers a wonderful Mother’s Day and
hope that you all have a beautiful day with loved
ones. You are a treasure to your families and to
St. Agatha’s.
Have a wonderful week,
Sr. Karen

lleva a Dios.
Hermana Karen

Hello, my name is Ms. Juarez and I'm 15 years old. I attend High
School and I have been going to St. Agatha since 2005. I started to
serve at the 12:15 p.m. mass and I enjoy it. I am participating as a
candidate for Queen of the 2014 International Festival because I
want to help our parish. When I go to college, I would like to study
forensic science and then work with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.). I like to
dance and read about mysteries. My favorite
subjects are Math and Science. I would appreciate your support by buying raffle tickets.
Thank you for coming to St. Agatha and God
bless you!
Hola, mi nombre es Srita. Juarez y tengo 15
años. Asisto a la escuela secundaria y he

Recognizing signs of
child abuse and neglect
A key to reporting child abuse and neglect is
being able to recognize common indicators. In
children, the following signs may signal the presence of child abuse or neglect: Shows sudden
changes in behavior or school performance. Has
not received help for physical or medical problems
brought to the parents’ attention. Is always
watchful, as though preparing for something bad
to happen. Is overly compliant, passive, or withdrawn. Comes to school or other activities early,
stays late, and does not want to go home. Learn

los cuales le han informado a los padres; se mantienen vigilante como si algo malo fuera a suceder;
son demasiado conformistas, pasivos o retraídos;
