This property where we worship was developed by Valley
Congregational Church. The community center (across Easter
Lane) was constructed in 1924, the classrooms in 1948 and the
sanctuary in 1949. HSoH rented space in 2002 and purchased
the property in 2004. We are grateful to Valley Congregational
families who prepared this facility to serve the Body of Christ in
perpetuity.

THIS WEEK’S LESSON Tragic End or Glorious Beginnings? / ¿Fin Trágico o Inicios Gloriosos?
Isaiah 65:17-25; Psalm 118:1-4,29; 1 Timothy 2:1-7; Luke 21:5-19
Our reading themes merge – ‘end of the world’ to
‘new world coming’.
The recent US presidential election compels such
thoughts. Which is it for us?
In our Old Testament, God speaks through the
prophet Isaiah: “See, I will create new heavens and a new
earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will
they come to mind…Before they call I will answer; while they
are still speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb will feed
together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, and dust will
be the serpent’s food.” God’s promises to Israel were of
new and improved life after much suffering. After an
offensive campaign, we’re called to help heal our
nation and the world by having faith in God’s word: 1
Thes 5:12-18; Rom 8:28; Rom 13; Phil 4:12; and 1 Tim 2:1-15.
Paul prays: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions,
prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all
people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be
saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.” History
reveals unscrupulous leaders in the church, Pope
Alexander VI, and in government, Adolf Hitler. The
scandalous US president-elect, because it is God’s
will, can be saved, too. Shall we pray?
Jesus warns about evil times to come: “But before all
this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand
you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will
be brought before kings and governors, and all on account
of My name… You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers
and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of
you to death. Everyone will hate you because of Me.”
This will be so that: “you will bear testimony to Me.”
And He will empower us: “But make up your mind not to
worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will
give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries
will be able to resist or contradict…But not a hair of your
head will perish. Stand firm, and you will win life.”
Wars are not signs of the end, rather sufferings as
well as persecution for our faith. The world is ending,
superseded by the coming of the kingdom of God. Do
not be anxious. Do not try to defend yourself. Instead
rejoice in every sign of the kingdom’s coming. And
keep trusting Jesus.
Re-divert our attention, and help others back to
Jesus. His is the wisdom. His are the true words. His
is the power to enable us to endure with faithfulness
what none of us can escape.

‘nuevo mundo llegando'.
La reciente elección presidencial nos obliga a tales
pensamientos. ¿Cuál es para nosotros?
En nuestro Antiguo Testamento, Dios habla a través del
profeta Isaías: ‘Presten atención, que estoy por crear un cielo nuevo
y una tierra nueva. No volverán a mencionarse las cosas pasadas, ni se
traerán a la memoria…Antes que Me llamen, yo les responderé;
todavía estarán hablando cuando ya los habré escuchado. El lobo y el
cordero pacerán juntos; el león comerá paja como el buey, y la
serpiente se alimentará de polvo. En todo Mi monte santo no habrá
quien haga daño ni destruya." Las promesas de Dios a Israel
fueron de vida nueva y mejorada después de mucho
sufrimiento. Tras una campaña ofensiva, somos llamados
ayudar a sanar nuestra nación y al mundo por tener fe en la
palabra de Dios: 1 Tes 5:12-18; Rom 8:28; Rom 13; Fil 4:12; 1 Tim 2:1-15.
Pablo ora: “Así que recomiendo, ante todo, que se hagan plegarias,
oraciones, súplicas y acciones de gracias por todos, 2 especialmente por
los gobernantes y por todas las autoridades, para que tengamos paz y
tranquilidad, y llevemos una vida piadosa y digna. 3 Esto es bueno y
agradable a Dios nuestro Salvador, 4 pues él quiere que todos sean
salvos y lleguen a conocer la verdad." La historia revela dirigentes
inescrupulosos en la iglesia, el Papa Alejandro VI, y en el
gobierno, Adolf Hitler. El escandaloso presidente-elegido
estadounidense, porque esa es la voluntad de Dios, puede ser
salvo, también. ¿Oraremos?
Jesús advierte de tiempos malos que llegan: “Pero antes de todo
esto, echarán mano de ustedes y los perseguirán. Los entregarán a las
sinagogas y a las cárceles, y por causa de Mi nombre los llevarán ante
reyes y gobernadores … Ustedes serán traicionados aun por sus
padres, hermanos, parientes y amigos, y a algunos de ustedes se les
dará muerte. Todo el mundo los odiará por causa de Mi nombre."
Esto para que: “tendrán oportunidad de dar testimonio ante ellos."
Y Él nos fortalecerá: “Pero tengan en cuenta que no hay por qué
preparar una defensa de antemano, pues Yo Mismo les daré tal
elocuencia y sabiduría para responder, que ningún adversario podrá
resistirles ni contradecirles…Pero no se perderá ni un solo cabello de
su cabeza. Si se mantienen firmes, se salvarán."
Las guerras no son señales del fin, más sufrimientos así como
persecución por nuestra fe. El mundo se está terminando,
reemplazado por la venida del reino de Dios. No seamos
ansiosos. No tratemos de defendernos. En lugar regocijarnos en
cada signo del reino que viene. Y sigamos confiando en Jesús.
Redirigir nuestra atención, y ayudar a otros regresar
nuevamente a Jesús. Suya es la sabiduría. Sus palabras son
verdaderas. Él es el poder que nos permita soportar con
fidelidad lo que ninguno de nosotros podemos escapar.

Church History / Historia de la Igleisa
Pope Agatho wrote to the emperor and eastern bishops in
680: "Believe your most humble [servant], my most Christian lords
and sons, that I am pouring forth these prayers with my tears ,"
because of a dangerous heresy.
Agatho's concern led him to call a synod at Rome to
condemn the teachings of the heretics. He then dispatched
a lengthy letter to Constantinople, which was then the seat
of the Roman Empire.
The sixth general council of the church convened on
November 7, 680 in Constantinople with Emperor
Constantine Pogonatus and representatives of the
patriarchates of Constantinople, Antioch, Rome, Alexandria
and Jerusalem.
Monothelitism denied Christ's humanity, claiming that He
had only one will--the divine. It arose as an attempt to unify
the orthodox and monophysite factions of the church in face
of rising danger from Persia and Islam in the east. Several
notable church leaders had signed onto this error, including
an earlier pope, Honorius, and the previous emperor,
Constans II.
It took eighteen sessions during one year for the council
bishops to write: "...we find that these documents are quite foreign
to the apostolic dogmas, to the declarations of the holy Councils, and
to all the accepted Fathers, and that they follow the false teachings
of the heretics; therefore we entirely reject them, and execrate them
as hurtful to the soul. But the names of those men whose doctrines
we execrate must also be thrust forth from the holy Church of God..."
The council further declared "...our Lord Jesus Christ must be
confessed to be very God and very man, one of the holy and
consubstantial and life-giving Trinity, perfect in Deity and perfect in
humanity, very God and very man, of a reasonable soul and human
body subsisting; consubstantial with the Father as touching His
Godhead and consubstantial with us as touching His manhood...the
peculiarities of neither nature being lost by the union but rather the
proprieties of each nature being preserved, concurring in one Person
and in one subsistence, not parted or divided into two persons but
one and the same only-begotten Son of God, the Word, our Lord
Jesus Christ...we likewise declare that in Him are two natural
wills..."
El Papa Agatho escribió al emperador y obispos orientales en
680: “Crean a sus más humilde siervo, mis tan cristianos señores e hijos, que
estoy derramando estas oraciones con mis lágrimas," a causa de una herejía
peligrosa.
La precepción de Agatho lo llevó a llamar a un sínodo en Roma

vivificante, perfecto en la Divinidad y perfecto en la humanidad, verdadero
Dios y verdadero hombre, subsistiendo de alma razonable y cuerpo humano;
consubstancial con el Padre como tocar Su divinidad y consustancial con
nosotros como tocar Su hombría...las peculiaridades de ninguna naturaleza
siendo perdido por la unión sino las propiedades de cada naturaleza ser
preservada, concurriendo en una sola persona y en una subsistencia, no partida
o dividido en dos personas, sino uno y El mismo Hijo unigénito de Dios, la
palabra, nuestro Señor Jesucristo… Asimismo, declaramos que en Él son dos
voluntades naturales..."
