Five things every Virginia voter should know for the 2014 elections

1. Photo ID is required.
All voters must present an acceptable photo ID to
vote at the polls. Voters without photo ID can only
vote a provisional ballot. To have your provisional
ballot counted, you must obtain or provide
acceptable photo ID to the General Registrar
in the municipality of registration by noon on
Friday, November 7, 2014.

in line when the polls close at
7 PM are allowed to vote.

Employer-issued photo ID
Military photo ID
College or university student photo ID card from a
Virginia institute of higher learning
Photo ID issued by U.S. Government; Commonwealth of Virginia, or political subdivision of the
Commonwealth
*An ID that has an expiration date must be current or have
expired within the 12 months preceding the election.
If you lack one of these forms of acceptable
ID, you can obtain a free Virginia Voter Photo
Identification Card from any general registrar’s
office before Election Day. For more information,

2. Voters who have moved
within Virginia can still vote
in their former precinct.
Voters who moved after November 5, 2013,
to another precinct in Virginia, but have not
updated their registration, may vote by regular
ballot in the precinct where registered and
otherwise qualified to vote if not for the move.
3. Voters who requested
but didn’t receive an
absentee ballot may vote
a provisional ballot.
If you applied for an absentee ballot, but you
either did not receive it or lost it, you can cast a
provisional ballot at the polls on Election Day,
after providing a signed statement that you did
not receive your absentee ballot or you lost it.
4. Voters whose names are
not in the poll book can
still vote.
If your name is not in the poll book, you may be
able to vote a regular ballot. The local election
officer should call the registrar to check your
registration. Upon verification, you can vote
a regular ballot if you sign an affirmation that
you are validly registered, provide identifying
information (name, birthdate, address, and the
last four digits of your Social Security number, if
any), and that information is entered into the poll
book. If your registration cannot be verified, you
can still vote a provisional ballot.
5. Voters have a right to
assistance in voting.
You have the right to assistance at the polling
place, including foreign language or literacy
assistance. You can choose anyone to assist you,
except your employer, an agent of your union,
or an agent of your employer. You have the right
to a demonstration of the voting equipment and
instructions on how to vote. If you are age 65 or
older, or have a physical disability, you may vote
curbside by requesting a ballot and voting outside
the polling place within 150 feet of the entrance.

1. Identificación con foto
es requerido
Cada votante debe presentar una identificación con
foto aceptable para votar en las urnas. Los votantes
sin identificación fotográfica solamente pueden

obtener o proveer una identificación fotográfica

2. Los votantes que se han
cambiado de dirección al dentro
del estado de Virginia pueden
votar en su precinto anterior.
Los votantes que han mudado hasta otro precinto
electoral en Virginia después del 5 de noviembre
del 2013, que no han cambiado su registración,
pueden votar a una papeleta regular en el precinto
donde están registrados, si estarán calificados
excepto por la mudanza.
3. Los votantes que pidieron una
papeleta para votar en ausencia
que no fue recibida pueden votar
en una papeleta provisional.
Si usted aplico para una papeleta para votar en
ausencia, pero no la ha recibido, o si fue perdido,
usted puede votar una papeleta provisional en
las urnas en el Día de las Elecciones, después de
firmar una declaración que no ha recibido o se ha
perdido su papeleta para votar en ausencia.
4. Los votantes cuyos
nombres no se encuentren
en el libro del registro de
las urna pueden votar.
Si su nombre no está en el libro del registro, todavía
es posible que usted puede votar en una papeleta
normal. El oficial local debe llamar al Registro para
verificar su registración. Después de la verificación,
usted puede votar una papeleta regular, si firme una
afirmación que su registración es válida y provee
información de identificación (nombre, fecha de
nacimiento, y las ultimas 4 digites de su número
de Social Security, si lo tiene), y la información está
escrita en el libro de registro de las urnas. Acaso
que su registración no puede ser verificada, todavía
puede votar en una papeleta provisional.
5. Los votantes tienen el
derecho a asistencia en votar.
Usted tiene el derecho a asistencia en las urnas,
incluyendo asistencia en español y/o para ayudar
a leer. Usted puede escoger a cualquier persona
para ayudarle, excepto su empleador, un agente de
su sindicato, o un agente de su empleador. Usted
tiene el derecho a recibir una demonstración de las
