Siga las instrucciones a continuación para prepararse para
su cirugía:
To prepare for your surgery, follow the steps below.
• El _____________ (día anterior a la cirugía), puede comer un
desayuno ligero. A partir del desayuno no coma ninguna otra
comida sólida.
• On _________________ (the day before your surgery), you
may eat a light breakfast. Do not eat any other solid food the
rest of the day.
• Durante el resto del día y hasta la medianoche podrá tomar
bebidas trasparentes, a menos que su médico le dé indicaciones
distintas. Líquidos trasparentes incluyen café negro (sin crema
o leche), té, sodas, caldo o jugos trasparentes, gelatina sin sabor

bebidas para deportistas como Gatorade, Allsport o Pedialyte.
• You may have clear liquids the rest of the day until midnight
unless your doctor gives you other instructions. Clear liquids
include black coffee (no milk or cream), tea, soda pop, clear
broth, clear juices, plain gelatin, water, Popsicles, fruit ice and
clear hard candy. You should include sports drinks such as
Gatorade, Allsport or Pedialyte in your clear liquid diet.
• Muchas personas prefieren beber el GoLytely o Colyte luego
de enfriarlo en el refrigerador, por lo cual quizás prefiera
prepararlo con anticipación. Para prepararlo llene el envase de
Golytely o Colyte hasta la mitad con agua tibia. Cierre el envase

• Many people prefer to drink the GoLytely or Colyte after it has
been chilled in the refrigerator, so you may want to make it in
advance. To make the solution, fill the jug that has the GoLytely
or Colyte powder in it half full with warm water. Cover and
shake the jug. Then fill the jug with warm water to the fill line.
Shake until the powder is dissolved. It is important to use 1
full gallon of water to dissolve the powder.

• Una vez terminado el GoLytely o Colyte, usted puede empezar
a beber líquidos claros hasta 2 horas antes de la cirugía, a

• At 12:00 noon, take a metoclopramide pill (Reglan).
• At 1:00 p.m., drink 10 ounces (one large glass) of the GoLytely
or Colyte solution. After a few minutes drink another glass.
Keep drinking a glass at a time until the jug is empty. You
must drink the entire gallon within five hours (by 6:00 p.m.).
• One to three hours after you begin drinking the solution, you
will start to have bowel movements. You may have diarrhea
(very soft stools) for four to six hours, so stay near a bathroom.
• After finishing the GoLytely or Colyte, you may keep
drinking clear liquids until 2 hours before surgery unless
your doctor gives you other instructions. Clear liquids
include water, clear juice, black coffee or clear tea without
milk, Gatorade, clear soda.
