School Office: (805) 648-6836 Weekly Reflection Reflexión Semanal Abiding in Love Permanecer en el Amor “I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.” Today’s psalm refrain captures the theme of God’s merciful love which is illustrated in both the Old Testament reading and Luke’s Gospel. Both recount the raising of a widow’s son from the dead. In the first story, Elijah calls out to God, “Lord, my God, let the life breath return to the body of this child.” In the Gospel, Jesus encounters a funeral procession and says to the grieving mother, “Do not weep.” He then says,” Young man, I tell you arise.” The sons in both instances are immediately returned to life and enfolded once again in their mothers’ love. The image of the mothers draws us to God, whose joy is boundless when we are restored to life when we once again abide and rest in his loving presence. Our relationship with God affects every moment of our lives and the lives of others. When we abide with God during our daily interactions, we enhance God’s kingdom on earth. Every time we are kind, supportive, and loving, grace abounds and life is restored in some fashion. These are the resurrection moments symbolized in today’s readings. These are the “calls to life” that God asks of us. Each of us becomes his hands and feet on earth as we strive to bless one another as we journey toward our heavenly home. In his epistle, Saint Paul provides an example of the zeal with which we are to live grace-filled lives. Paul testifies that after his conversion on the road to Damascus, the “revelation of Jesus Christ” inspired his every thought and action. We seek to live with this same confidence realizing that “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God in him” (Communion Antiphon). “Te alabaré, Señor, porque me has salvado”. Parish News Religious Education Invited to Feast: Break Bread and Share Our Lady of the Assumption School On this very important feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, as the OLA Family, we join together to celebrate the source and summit of our faith, Jesus Christ. St. Augustine reflected on the gift of the Eucharist when he declared to those who gathered at the table of the Lord, “Receive who you are”! This was not what we would expect when we answer Amen to the declaration, “The Body of Christ” or even the hope of responding to “Receive who you desire or hope to be.” But rather, it is the realization that through baptism and Eucharist, I have been born anew in Christ and that Jesus has claims me as His own. Therefore, I am in Christ and with Christ, always. This is our destiny as sharers in the Body and Blood of the Lord. Not only is this a great gift but the realization that I have been chosen by Christ to be His image and likeness to those around me. I am different because of this relationship and I want to be different so that others may see and hear Christ through me. This is our vocation, this is our identity, this is our hope for others to share. It is my desire to bring this gift of Christ to our community. As in that past and again on September 17th, OLA will celebrate the popular, outdoor mass on the school field. I know this is a great experience of the Church family gathered in prayer. Another simple, yet compelling way to experience this is through an intimate Mass in the homes of parishioners. Gathering family, friends, and neighbors together to share the Eucharist and a simple meal is another way to enjoy our life in the Lord. This summer, I would like to begin celebrating home masses. Be a host family and invite family, friends, and others who may wish to join us. Let us gather on a Saturday or Sunday evening to celebrate Mass, enjoy a shared meal, and invite the Eucharistic Christ to be a special part of our summer journey of faith. Call or email the parish rectory for details and let us set a date. Monday June 6th and Tuesday June 7th there will be a used uniform sale, see the website for more info. Also on Monday, the 8th Graders will have their class retreat, please keep them in your prayers as they approach graduation. Wednesday June 8th at 11:00 there will be a Farewell Assembly, the entire school will salute the Grads. Also, at 5:00 pm the Graduation Mass and Presentation of the Diplomas will be held in the church. Thursday June 9th is Karma Day, plan on a fun day for all. Friday June 10th is the last day of school, this is a noon dismissal day. Wishing all the OLA families a safe, enjoyable and restful summer. Blessings and Peace, Fr. Leon Get on the Bus Dearest Fr. Leon - Thank you so much for allowing me to speak and share about Get On The Bus. It has been a prayer of mine for almost 4 years now ~ I love seeing my own community becoming more aware! Pool safety is about more than swimming Eucharistic Adoration Swimming is a fun way to have some fun and beat the heat during the summer. Parents should teach their children about swimming safety, including how to identify and handle uncomfortable situations. Although you may be watching closely to make sure your kids are safe in the water, don’t forget about when they’re walking around, sitting out by the pool, using the restrooms or out of sight. Teach your children what to do when they feel uncomfortable at the pool, and let them know it is okay to walk away and find a parent or trusted adult at any time.
