Jesus Way – The Image of the Steward
All temporal and spiritual goods are created by and come from God.
That is true of everything human beings have: spiritual gifts like faith, hope, and love; talents of
body and brain; cherished relationships with family and friends; material goods; the
achievements of human genius and skill; the world itself.
One day God will require an accounting of the use each person has made of the particular portion
of these goods entrusted to him or her.

There was a man who was going on a journey, and who left his wealth to be tended by three
servants. Two of them responded wisely by investing the money and making a handsome profit.
Upon returning, the master commends them warmly and rewards them richly. But the third
behaves foolishly, with anxious pettiness, squirreling away the master’s wealth and earning
nothing; he is rebuked and punished. (A paraphrase of Matthew 25: 14-30)
Do you ever run into people who tell you they have no talent or no
talents in particular? Their disclaimer is as bad as false modesty!
Why would God create someone with no talents? Isn’t it hard to
believe that God would do that? Instead, people who claim they
have no talents need to take the time to discover what their talents
are. If they truly want to find a way to serve God, finding out what
their talents are seems to be a small price to pay. I also remember
the old saying that if only the birds with the most beautiful songs
were to sing, the forest would be a very quite place indeed.

1. What talents has God given to you?
2. How have you used those gifts to further God’s kingdom/make this world better?
3. How have you helped others recognize the gifts God has given to them?
At the heart of stewardship is the ability to grow in our faith commitment. It is a growth that
asks us to recognize the richness of the simplicity of recognizing what is really important in our

Todos los bienes temporales y espirituales han sido creados por Dios y preceden de Dios. Eso se
puede decir de todo lo que los seres humanos poseen: los dones espirituales como la fe, la
esperanza y el amor; los talentos del cuerpo y de la mente; las relaciones apreciadas de familiares
y amigos; los bienes materiales; las realizaciones del ingenio y la destreza humana; el mundo en
sí. Un día Dios nos pedirá cuentas del uso que cada persona ha hecho de la porción particular de

Había un home que iba de viaje y que deja su riqueza en monedas de plata para que tres
sirvientes se las cuiden. Dos de ellos responden sabiamente invirtiendo el dinero y sacando
buenas ganancias. A su regreso, el amo los alaba mucho y les da una buena recompensa. Pero
el tercero se comportó neciamente, y por tener un temor infundado, escondió la riqueza del amo
y no ganó nada; sólo recibió reproches y un castigo. (Una paráfrasis de Mateo 25: 14-30)
¿Alguna vez te has topado con personas que dicen no tener ningún
talento o ser personas sin talento en particular? Su renuncia es tan mala
como la falsa modestia! ¿Por qué crearía Dios a alguien sin ningún
talento? ¿No es difícil creer que Dios haría algo así? En cambio,
quienes afirman que no tienen talentos deberían tomar su tiempo en
descubrir cuáles son sus talentos. Si realmente quieren encontrar una
manera de servir a Dios, descubrir cuáles son sus talentos parece ser
un pequeño precio que pagar. También recuerdo al viejo refrán que dice
si sólo las aves con las canciones más hermosas fueran a cantar, el
bosque sería sin duda un lugar muy tranquilo.

1. ¿Qué talentos te ha dado Dios?
2. ¿Cómo has utilizado esos “dones” para avanzar el reino de Dios y hacer de este mundo un
lugar mejor?
3. ¿Cómo has ayudado a otros a reconocer los dones que Dios les ha dado?
Al centro de la corresponsabilidad esta la habilidad de crecer en nuestro propio compromiso de
fe. Es un crecimiento que nos pide que reconozcamos la riqueza de la simplicidad de reconocer
