Third Sunday of Ordinary Time January 26, 2014 The Navigator El Navegante Go… Baptize… Teach… Vayan… Bautizen… Enseñen… St. Brendan’s Night with Gwinnett Gladiators Next Weekend - The Presentation of the Lord Blessing of Candles Next Sunday, the Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus and is also known as Candlemas day. Our weekend liturgies will include a blessing and procession of candles. You may wish to bring a candle from home, perhaps one that you will use this coming year as part of a personal devotion space or home altar, and present the candle for blessing at Mass. As we return home with our candles, we are reminded that the light of our blessed candles symbolizes Christ, who is the Light of the World. It also symbolizes the infant Savior, who entered into the temple with Mary and Joseph. God, our Father, who is the source of all light, revealed to Simeon the light of revelation to the nations. It symbolizes also that we are to always bring that light of Christ we received at our own baptism to those who live in darkness. It is with sincere gratitude, mixed with a bit of sadness, that we must bid a fond farewell to our Director of Music & Liturgy, Mr. Phil Barreca. For more than 7 years, Phil has led our parish in song, prayer and devotion through his organization and planning of our many liturgical celebrations. His love of Liturgy and his many musical talents have graced our parish with exemplary opportunities for worship. Throughout the Diocese and beyond, Phil has been “in demand” for his musical abilities, often stepping in as a guest musician at weddings, funerals and Diocesan events, even performing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus! We have truly been fortunate to have him serve in this role at St. Brendan’s for so long. This February, Phil will begin his new role in the Archdiocese, as Director of Music and Organist at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Roswell, GA. His final day here at St. Brendan will be January 31.
