Think Through Math (TTM) wants to help your child maintain their math and problem-solving skills
throughout the summer.
WHAT IS THINK THROUGH MATH?
TTM is an online math tutoring program that can help students
avoid “summer learning loss”. Students will work on a carefully
selected set of topics designed to help them maintain the math
skills they gained during the school year. Additionally, using TTM
in the summer helps to prepare students for the topics they will
see when the new school year begins.
Because TTM is Web-based, your child can access the program
from any computer that is connected to the Internet, whether at
school, home, or the library. The program is proven to increase
math proficiency when students use TTM 2 to 3 times each
week or approximately 90 minutes each week.

A few recommendations:
• Encourage participation. The more time your child engages with the program, the more they will
experience success and the more they will learn.
• Encourage thoughtfulness. The program provides constant support and immediate feedback,
especially in those places where students tend to struggle.
• Take time to review your child’s TTM dashboard and discuss progress. Discuss lessons
completed, lessons passed, and points earned. Remind your child that hard work pays off.

WHAT TO EXPECT
• Your child has been assigned one or more series of lessons — known as ‘pathways’ — based
on your child’s grade level. These lessons are aligned to your state’s learning objectives.
• In some cases, your child will simply continue his or her pathway begun during the school year.
In other cases, your child may be assigned new pathways specifically developed for summer
learning.
• Your child may complete a placement test to determine how prepared he or she is for the
assigned pathway of lessons. Upon completion of the placement test, your child’s pathway
may be adjusted to include lessons designed to better prepare him or her for grade-level work.
• Your child may complete up to 2 additional benchmark tests throughout the course of their
summer work.
• TTM lessons contain up to 5 activities that students will work through.
• Pre-Quiz: pre-lesson assessment containing 7-8 math questions. If your child completes the
pre-quiz with a score of 80% or higher, TTM will automatically designate the entire lesson
as ‘passed’ and your child will move on to the next lesson.
• Warm-up: interactive math game covering concepts your child should already understand.
• Guided Learning: math questions combined with instruction in the form of Math Help and
corrective feedback that guide your child through completing the question. If your child is
struggling, he or she can access state-certified, live TTM teachers for further instruction on
the math concept being taught in the problem.
• Problem Solving*: multi-step activity teaching students how to break down a word problem,
build an equation, solve it, analyze it, and apply it to a new math situation.
• Practice: math questions in the form of independent practice on the concepts taught in the
previous activities. Students receive assistance in the form of corrective feedback.
• Post-Quiz: post-lesson assessment containing 7-8 math questions. If your child completes
the post-quiz with a score of 70% or higher, he or she will pass the lesson. If your child
scores lower than 70%, he or she may work through a remedial lesson before retaking the
failed lesson. Should your child not pass the lesson on his or her 2nd attempt, a 3rd attempt
will be provided later in your child’s pathway.
*Not available in all lessons. Only students working in grade levels 5-8 will experience this activity.

bilingual math teachers who will tutor your child one-on-one. Summer hours are as follows. All times
are local to students’ time zones.

SUMMER MATH SPLASH CONTEST
Get ready to turn up the heat in the 2016 TTM Math Splash! This summer our THINK students will
make a BIG splash in math, but they will not be alone. They will have the support from parents and
teachers across THINK Nation in avoiding the summer slide and preparing THINK students to hit the
ground running in the fall. TTM will award hard-working students, parents and teachers that take the
Summer Math Splash Challenge! The challenge runs from June to August, 2016.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
TTM requires that students access the program through the Internet, using a desktop or laptop
computer or mobile device with a Web browser. To benefit from all of the program’s features,
students should use only the approved device and browser combinations appearing below.

QUÉ ESPERAR
• A su niño o niña se le han asignado una o más series de lecciones, conocidas como “plan de
estudios”, según su nivel de grado. Las lecciones se ajustan a los objetivos de aprendizaje de
su estado.
• En algunos casos, su niño o niña simplemente continuará el plan de estudios que comenzó
durante el año escolar. En otros casos, es posible que a su niño o niña se le asigne un nuevo
plan de estudios, desarrollado específicamente para el aprendizaje de verano.
• Es posible que su niño o niña tenga que completar un examen de nivel para determinar si
está suficientemente preparado(a) para el plan de estudios asignado. Una vez que haya
completado el examen de nivel, puede que el plan de estudios de su niño o niña se modifique
para incluir lecciones que lo/la preparen mejor para el contenido que corresponde a su nivel
de grado.
• Quizá su niño o niña complete hasta dos exámenes de referencia adicionales en el transcurso
del trabajo de verano.
• Las lecciones de TTM incluyen hasta 5 actividades que los estudiantes tendrán que completar.
• Prueba preliminar (Pre-Quiz): evaluación previa a cada lección que incluye de 7 a 8
preguntas de matemáticas. Si su niño o niña obtiene un puntaje de al menos el 80% en la
prueba preliminar, TTM considerará automáticamente toda la lección como “aprobada” y su
niño o niña avanzará a la lección que sigue.
• Preparación (Warm-Up): juego interactivo de matemáticas que abarca conceptos que su
niño o niña ya debería comprender.
• Aprendizaje guiado (Guided Learning): preguntas de matemáticas combinadas con
enseñanza en forma de Ayuda en matemáticas (Math Help) y comentarios sobre las
respuestas, que guían a su niño o niña para que pueda completar la pregunta. Si su niño o
niña tiene dificultades, puede acceder en vivo a maestros de TTM certificados en el estado,
que le explicarán en detalle el concepto de matemáticas que se enseña en el problema.
• Resolución de problemas*(Problem Solving): actividad de varios pasos que enseña a los
estudiantes a descomponer un problema en palabras, a crear una ecuación, resolverla,
analizarla y aplicarla a una nueva situación matemática.

• Práctica (Practice): preguntas matemáticas en forma de práctica independiente sobre los
conceptos enseñados en actividades anteriores. Los estudiantes reciben comentarios sobre
las respuestas como ayuda.
• Prueba posterior (Post-Quiz): evaluación posterior a cada lección que incluye de 7 a 8
preguntas de matemáticas. Si su niño o niña obtiene un puntaje de al menos el 70% en la
Prueba posterior, avanza a la lección que sigue. Si su niño o niña obtiene un puntaje inferior
al 70%, es probable que deba completar una lección complementaria antes de volver a ser
evaluado en la lección que desaprobó. Si su niño o niña no aprueba la lección en el segundo
intento, se le ofrecerá un tercer intento más adelante durante el plan de estudios.

Mientras su niño o niña trabaja en Think Through Math, el programa ofrece apoyo adicional a la

COMPETENCIA SUMMER MATH SPLASH
¡Prepárense para subir la temperatura durante el Math Splah (Chapuzón de matemáticas) de TTM
2016! Este verano, nuestros estudiantes de Think Through Math se zambullirán en las matemáticas,
pero no estarán solos. Contarán con el apoyo de los padres y maestros de THINK Nation para
evitar el “bajón veraniego” y prepararse para comenzar de lleno en el otoño. Premiaremos a los
estudiantes tenaces, a los padres y a los maestros que participen en el desafío del Summer Math
Splash (Chapuzón veraniego de matemáticas). El desafío del Summer Math Splash se extiende de
junio a agosto.
REQUISITOS TÉCNICOS
Para usar el programa TTM, los estudiantes deben conectarse a Internet con una computadora
de escritorio o portátil, o un dispositivo móvil con navegador de Internet. Para sacar provecho de
todas las funciones del programa, los estudiantes deben usar solo el dispositivo aprobado y las
