Symptom
The message "This plug-in is not supported" when attempting to launch the Java Report Panel, Rich
Internet Application or Web Intelligence Applet interface in Chrome.
This occurs in Chrome version 42 and newer releases
Environment
SAP Business Objects XI 3.1
SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.0
SAP Business Intelligence Platform 4.1
Web Intelligence
Java Report Panel (XI 3.1)
Rich Internet Application (BI 4.0)
Web Intelligence Applet interface (BI 4.1)
Reproducing the Issue
1. Log into BI Launchpad or InfoView using Chrome version 42 or newer
2. Create a new report, or edit an existing report in the Java editor specific to the product version (Java
Report Panel, Rich Internet Application or Web Intelligence Applet interface)
3. For XI 3.1, the list of universes will appear. Choose a universe.
4. The message "This plug-in is not supported" appears and the Applet does not launch
Cause
This behavior is a result of intended changes within the Chrome browser to disable NPAPI plugins, which
includes the Java Runtime Environment that Web Intelligence uses.

Page 2/3
Starting with Chrome version 45:
The NPAPI plugins are disabled altogether with no way to re-enable them.
In Chrome 42 and earlier:
The NPAPI plugins can be re-enabled by typing the following into the Chrome browser's address bar:
chrome://flags/#enable-npapi
Under
the section "Enable NPAPI", click Enable.
Restart Chrome
Workaround:
The Web Intelligence Rich Client (all product versions), Web Intelligence Web interface (XI 3.1 and BI 4.0) and
Web Intelligence HTML interface (BI 4.1) all work without any problems.
Please Note:
The Oracle Java Runtime Environment is no longer supported in Chrome, unless Oracle releases a new JRE
that works around the NPAPI limitations.
