MTSS Corner:
Well, I’d say that the MTSS team has been on hiatus for the past few weeks since we have not met as a team but I can’t really say that. Many members of the MTSS team have volunteered to work on accreditation and have therefore been working overtime fast and furious to complete Nina Harris’ accreditation plan. The school was split up into teams based on the five standards required. Standard 4 which has 7 different indicators on which to collect data has been completed and the information entered by administration into the database sent by the District. There is additional information the database requests besides the other 4 standards’ information. All this MUST be completed and sent to the District before we break for Thanksgiving. The District will then review all information sent not only by us but by every other school as well and submit it before we the break for December holidays. Nina Harris will be notified sometime after we return in January as to whether or not we can expect a visit from the accreditation team. If so, it will be around Ground Hog Day in early February. Wish us luck and our regular team meetings should resume after Thanksgiving. Vicki Rosado

The PTO wants to say thank you to all of the people who worked so hard on the auction. It was a huge success. It is a team effort and Nina Harris has an awesome team.

MTSS Corner:
Bueno, yo diría que el equipo MTSS ha estado en pausa durante las últimas semanas, ya que no hemos cumplido como un equipo, pero no puedo realmente decir eso. Muchos miembros del equipo del MTSS se han ofrecido para trabajar en la acreditación y, por tanto, han estado trabajando horas extras rápido y furioso para completar el plan de acreditación Nina Harris. La escuela se dividió en equipos basados en los cinco estándares requeridos. October students of the Month
October has been extremely busy with many fun activities mixed with times of strict business. During the fun times, we saw the movie, Frozen, attended the Book Fair, won first place in the “props” category of the Literacy Pumpkin Contest, and participated in Halloween. We completed haunted house art projects with Ms. Sue, created scary music with Ms. Sandee, and mosaic pumpkin pictures in class. Students have been immersed in the activities of our busy classroom and we had lots of fun together.
We spent much time working on identifying the “Who”, “What”, and “Where” in our lessons. ULS post-­‐testing was completed for the first reporting period, and we are moving on to our next lesson, Our Changing Weather. Intertwined in all of this, we have completed 5 IEP/Re-­‐evaluations since the beginning of school! Families and staff contributed a tremendous amount of items for our “Going to the Dogs!” auction baskets. So far, we have collected enough for 4 big baskets, thanks to everyone! I feel very blessed to be at Nina Harris. Thanks to everyone for helping me get acclimated and feel welcome. Alexa Meredith

SEMINOLE LANES will provide Free “Games for A’s” during the year. Students should bring their Report Card to Seminole Lanes to receive up to 5 free games per grading period or 20 free games from the Final Report Card (one for each “A” or “E”) to be used before August 31st, 2015.

Estudiantes octubre del Mes
Octubre ha sido muy ocupado con muchas actividades divertidas mezcladas con momentos de estrictamente de negocios. Durante los tiempos de la diversión, vimos la película, Helado, asistimos a la Feria del Libro, ganó el primer lugar en la categoría "accesorios" de la calabaza Concurso de Alfabetización, y participamos en Halloween. Hemos completado los proyectos de arte frecuentada casa con la señora Sue, creado música de terror con la Sra Sandee, y fotos de calabaza de mosaico en la clase. Los estudiantes han estado inmersos en las actividades de nuestra aula ocupada, y hemos tenido un montón de diversión juntos.
Pasamos mucho tiempo trabajando en la identificación de los "quién", "qué" y "dónde" en nuestras lecciones. ULS post-­‐prueba se completó para el primer período de presentación de informes, y nos estamos moviendo en nuestra próxima lección, nuestro cambiante tiempo. Entrelazado en todo esto, hemos completado 5 IEP / Re-­‐
evaluaciones desde el comienzo de la escuela!
Las familias y el personal han contribuido una enorme cantidad de artículos para nuestras "Going to the Dogs!" Cestas de subastas. Hasta el momento, hemos recogido suficiente para 4 grandes cestas, gracias a todos! Me siento muy bendecido de estar en Nina Harris. Gracias a todos por ayudarme aclimatarse y se sientan bienvenidos.

Hello from the Middle School Hallway!
November is such a busy month for us here at Nina! We’re all still buzzing from the sugar-­‐high of Halloween, and we have only a couple of weeks to get ready for Homecoming! This year, Homecoming is going to be a blast (of frigid air)! We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful floats that the different classes come up with this year. We are also gearing up for our Science Fair that will be held on December 4th! The middle school hallway always goes above and beyond with their science projects for the fair! I know my class (Porch’s class) has been working hard on their science fair project for a while now and we can’t wait to share it with the school. It’s fun to see how the kids have worked on science experiments in their classrooms to reach conclusions and by seeing them share those conclusions with the rest of the school. Thanksgiving Break is November 24th-­‐28th, both students and staff are looking forward to spending time with family, friends, and loved ones over the break. We would like to say thank you to all the wonderful people who came to Nina Harris and participated in the Duke Energy's Great American Teach-­‐In on November 19th. We had a great time visiting with all the police officers and getting to see inside their vehicles. We really enjoyed the mini-­‐race cars. The Ghostbuster car was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the day!
Ms. Debby’s and Ms. Angie’s PreK class has been busy learning the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make. We work on counting out the syllables we hear in words and how to put sounds together to make words. During math lessons we count, do simple addition and subtraction, decide which is more/less/equal and make patterns. Ms. Lynette introduced us to the book, “That is Not a Good Idea” by Mo Willems and it quickly became a class favorite. We especially like the twist at the end of the story. The class recreated a portion of the book using pumpkins and other props for the school-­‐wide literacy pumpkin Reminder:

Hola de la Escuela Pasillo Oriente!
Noviembre es un mes tan ocupado para nosotros aquí en Nina! Todos estamos todavía zumbando de la azúcar alta de Halloween, y tenemos sólo un par de semanas para estar listo para el regreso a casa! Este año, de regreso a casa va a ser una explosión (de aire helado)! No podemos esperar a ver todas las carrozas maravillosas que las diferentes clases se presentan con este año. También nos estamos preparando para nuestra Feria de Ciencias que es el 4 de diciembre! El pasillo de la escuela secundaria siempre va por encima y más allá con sus proyectos de ciencia para la feria! Sé que mi clase (clase de Porche) ha estado trabajando duro en su proyecto de feria de ciencia desde hace un tiempo y no puedo esperar para compartirlo con la escuela. Es divertido ver cómo los niños han trabajado en experimentos científicos en sus salones de clase para llegar a conclusiones al ver que compartan esas conclusiones con el resto de la escuela. Acción de Gracias es 24 a 28 noviembre, y los estudiantes y el personal están a la espera de pasar tiempo con la familia, amigos y seres queridos durante las vacaciones. Desde el pasillo de la escuela media, deseamos a todos ustedes un mini-­‐
vacaciones de descanso y de restauración de la escuela.
Clase de la Sra Porche
Nos gustaría dar las gracias a toda la gente maravillosa que vinieron a Nina Harris y participaron en el Duke Energy Gran Teach-­‐In de América el 19 de noviembre. Tuvimos un gran tiempo visitando a todos los agentes de la policía y llegar a ver el interior de sus vehículos. Realmente disfrutamos de los coches mini carreras. El coche Ghostbuster era increíble. Todo el mundo disfrutó de la jornada!
Clase de pre-­‐kindergarten de la Sra Angie de la Sra Debby y ha estado ocupado aprendiendo las letras del alfabeto y los sonidos que hacen. Trabajamos en contar las sílabas en las palabras que escuchamos y cómo poner los sonidos para formar palabras. Durante las clases de matemáticas que contamos, hacer sumas y restas simples, decidimos que es más / menos / igual y hacer patrones.
Sra. Lynette nos introdujo en el libro, "Eso no es una buena idea" por Mo Willems y rápidamente se convirtió en un favorito de la clase. Nos gusta especialmente el giro al final de la historia. La clase recreó una parte del libro con las calabazas y otros accesorios para el concurso de la calabaza de alfabetización en toda la escuela.

TRANSPORTATION NEWS The following information from Pinellas County Transportation Department provides parents with their responsibilities regarding their child’s wheelchair in order to safely transport your child to and from school.
Parental Responsibilities are as follows: 1. The wheelchair brakes are in working condition.
2. The wheels of the wheelchair are stable and properly aligned with the wheelchair. Flat tires need to be corrected promptly.
3. The wheelchair has positioning belts that secures by a positive latch system. The positioning belt should be attached to the wheelchair so that it will not cross the student’s abdomen.
4. The wheelchair should be equipped with a footrest whenever possible. Appropriate heel-­‐loops and straps should be used to position the feet securely.
5. Wheelchairs need to have a headrest or an extended back which supports your child’s head.
6. The wheelchair is equipped with anti-­‐tippers whenever practical.
7. Wheelchairs with a tilt ’n’ space mechanism should have a locked position in which to maintain the wheelchair.
8. Non-­‐acid batteries are used on motorized wheelchairs since they are non-­‐explosive and will not leak or spill.
The Transportation Department will follow the recommendation of the IEP Team, treating therapist, and /or physician regarding the need for:
*Chest harness system secured through buckle fasteners.
* Neck collar when there is poor head control
*Armrest
*Trunk and extremity positioning
It is the District’s responsibility to ensure the safety in transporting your child in his/her wheelchair. If a wheelchair is deemed to be non-­‐transportable because of needed repairs, you will be notified by your child’s school that we will not transport until repairs are made. If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Department Call Center at 587-­‐2020 or the school 547-­‐7850.
ARE YOU MOVING?
If so, please remember to notify school with your new address at least one week prior to your move. Transportation requests can take up to five days to be put in place. It is very important to Nina Harris that your child attends school and that there is no break in transportation services. Please call school at 547-­‐7850 and ask to speak to either Carol or Ginny who will be more than happy to put the change of address in. TRANSPORTE DE NOTICIAS

Mrs. Hernandez’s Class
Our class has been very busy this school year! During the month of November we began working on our ULS Science Unit. One of our favorite topics has been “Rain.” We have enjoyed reading our library book The Rain Came Down by David Shannon while listening to rain sounds & video on the SmartBoard, which adds just the right amount of fun! Of course, taking the time to slash in some water… or puddles…. also makes this concept enjoyable.
When we are not working on our ULS Curriculum, we have been working on our Social Skills and practicing working together and using our good manners by taking turns and sharing.
We are very excited as we prepare for the upcoming Science Fair! Our experiment is super cool and super “gross!” It is also a super secret, shhhhh! So, you will have to wait to see!
Clase de la señora Hernández
Nuestra clase ha estado muy ocupado este año escolar! Durante el mes de noviembre empezamos a trabajar en nuestra Unidad de Ciencias ULS. Uno de nuestros temas favoritos ha sido "Rain." Hemos disfrutado de la lectura de nuestro libro de la biblioteca La lluvia caía por David Shannon mientras escucha a la lluvia sonidos y vídeo en el SmartBoard, que añade la cantidad justa de diversión! Por supuesto, tomarse el tiempo para recortar en un poco de agua ... o charcos .... También hace que este concepto agradable.
Cuando no estamos trabajando en nuestro plan de estudios ULS, hemos estado trabajando en nuestras habilidades sociales y practicar el trabajo conjunto y el uso de nuestros buenos modales por turnos y compartir.
Estamos muy emocionados, mientras nos preparamos para la próxima Feria de Ciencias! Nuestro experimento es super guay y super "asqueroso!" También es un super secreto, Shhhhh! Así, por lo que tendrá que esperar para ver!
