Teaching Tip: Masculine or Feminine?
Divide the class into two teams. Print out two identical sets of cards with the names of body parts
on them. Important: don’t include the article! Draw two T-charts on the whiteboard with the
headings “el” and “la”. Attach one set of cards to the board using magnets. Place the cards so
that they are facedown and to the right of the T-chart. Repeat with other set of cards and the
other T-chart. Choose one student from each team to come to the board. When you say
“¡empieza!”, have the students flip cards over one-by-one and sort them into the appropriate
categories as quickly as they can. The student who has the most cards sorted correctly after 30
seconds wins the round. Repeat until all students have had a turn. Encourage students to cheer
on their classmates during the game.
