Parent Candidates
Miriam González
My family consists of my daughter, my two sons, my husband and myself. I practically live at
Mimosa where I volunteer almost every single day of the week. I wholeheartedly believe that
parents should take an active role in their children's education and, beyond my volunteering
that's why I would like to be considered for a position in the school governance council for
Mimosa where I could help in decision making for the operations and choices available for the
school that will ultimately impact my children's education.
Araceli Escamilla
I am a housewife and mother of 2. I've been at Mimosa for two years. I am an active volunteer
at Mimosa giving my time up to 3 times per week and loving every minute of it. I believe that
volunteering at school is a very important way of ensuring our children's success at school, out
of school, and for their future. I would like to be considered for a position in the school
governance council because it is an important initiative and because I would like to contribute
with the decisions that might be taken with reference to my children's education while in
Mimosa.
Yolanda Sabanilla
I am a housewife, we have two children at school. One is at Mimosa and the other one is in
middle school. As a mother I believe that you should always be involved in your children's
education. It is extremely important for them. I am a very proud mom because both my
daughters are doing very well and that inspires me further. I come to Mimosa to volunteer
frequently, almost weekly and the students are always happy to see me and appreciate my help
with their multiplication facts or rounding up numbers! Because of these facts, I would like to
become a candidate to the school governance council so that I could be a part of Mimosa's
future development and hence help along on my daughter's education and further inspire the
Hispanic parents so that hopefully, in seeing me, they will become more involved in THEIR own
children's education.
Nancy Garcia
I work half time and the rest is dedicated to my home. We are 3 in our family- my husband, my
son and myself. I want to submit my candidacy because I want to support the school in any way
I can and hence support my son in his education. I believe the school is at best only 50%
responsible of our children's education. The rest is left to us, the parents. I believe that within
the school governance council I might have the opportunity of supporting in a more substantial
way my son's education. Between all of us, with a strong VISIBLE support from the parents, we
can make of Mimosa a very exemplary school!

Tracy Liu
Since I began teaching at Mimosa in 2003, I have seen our school go through a lot of positive
changes. As a team we have built and implemented new ideas and improved existing
practices. As a candidate for School Governance Council, I would like to continue adding my
voice, ideas, and perspective to help shape our future growth as a school.
As an active member of my school community I have worked with a variety of different
committees to better the learning environment. I have experience working with administration,
collaborating with fellow faculty members, spending extra time with students, and
communicating with parents. I believe in Mimosa Elementary. I believe our students should
have the same opportunities as every other school in Fulton County.

Miriam González
Mi familia consiste de mi hija, mis dos hijos, mi esposo y yo. Prácticamente vivo en Mimosa dónde
ejerzo voluntariado casi todos los días de la semana. Sinceramente creo que los padres deben tomar un
papel activo en la educación de sus hijos y, más allá de mi voluntariado es por eso que me postulo y
deseo ser considerada para una posición en el consejo de gobierno de Mimosa donde podría ayudar en
las decisiones para el funcionamiento y opciones disponibles a la escuela que en definitiva afectarán la
educación de mis hijos.

Soy ama de casa y madre de 2. He estado en Mimosa ya dos años. Soy una voluntaria activa en Mimosa
y doy de mi tiempo hasta 3 veces por semana y amo cada minuto de ello. Creo que el voluntariado en la
escuela es una manera importante de asegurar el éxito de nuestros hijos en la escuela, fuera de la
escuela y para su futuro. Me gustaría ser considerado para una posición en el Consejo de Gobierno de la
escuela porque es una iniciativa importante y me gustaría contribuir con las decisiones que podrían
adoptarse en relación con la educación de mis hijos mientras se encuentren en Mimosa.
Yolanda Sabanilla
Soy un ama de casa y tenemos dos hijos en la escuela. Uno de mis hijos esta en Mimosa y el otro se
encuentra ya en la secundaria. Como madre creo que deberíamos estar siempre relacionados con la
educación de nuestros hijos. Es extremadamente importante para ellos. Soy una mamá muy orgullosa
porque a mis hijas les va muy bien en la escuela y esto me inspira más. Voy a ejercer voluntariado a
Mimosa con frecuencia, casi semanalmente, y los estudiantes siempre están felices de verme y aprecian
mi ayuda con sus tablas de multiplicación o redondeando números. Debido a estos hechos, me gustaría
postularme como candidato para el Consejo de Gobierno de la escuela para llegar a ser parte del
desarrollo futuro de Mimosa y por lo tanto ayudar en el proceso de educación de mi hija y además
inspirar a otros padres hispanos que ojalá, en viéndome, se involucren mas en la educación de sus
propios hijos.

Trabajo media jornada y el resto de mi tiempo está dedicado a mi hogar. Somos 3 en nuestra familia, mi
esposo, mi hijo y yo. Quiero presentar mi candidatura porque quiero apoyar a la escuela en cualquier
manera posible y de esa manera apoyar a mi hijo en su educación. Creo que la escuela es responsable de
la educación de nuestros hijos sólo el 50%. El resto queda para nosotros, los padres. Creo que
participando en el Consejo de Gobierno de la escuela podría tener la oportunidad de apoyar de manera
más sustancial la educación de mi hijo. Entre todos, con un fuerte apoyo VISIBLE de los padres, podemos
hacer de Mimosa una escuela muy ejemplar!
