Start with some simple numbers. Otra actividad Activity 2 – Number Tennis You could use a table tennis bat to do this and the children could hold an imaginary bat or racquet. You ‘bat’ a number to the class and they ‘bat’ the next number in the sequence back to you. You can start off batting in sequence forwards, then backwards, then in twos, threes, fives etc. Once you become more confident, you can increase the challenge by changing the sequence eg. plus three, minus five each time and so on. Envia un mensaje. Send a message – Envia un mensaje – by telling someone which keys to press on a mobile phone keypad. For example, to spell out ‘Hola’ (Hello) you need the second letter on number 4 for ‘H’ followed by the fourth letter on number 6 which is ‘O’, then the third letter on number 5 and, finally, the first letter on number 2. You could give your message in the following format leaving the recipient to work it out:Número cuatro, letra dos Número seis, letra cuatro Número cinco, letra tres Número dos, letra uno H O L A If you already know the alphabet in Spanish you could use these instead of the English. Additional Activities Activity 4 – Pelmanism Lay pairs of cards numbered 1 to 20 on the floor or blu-tac to your whiteboard face down. Mix them randomly and then take turns to lift two cards to try and identify matching pairs. If you manage to find a pair you keep the cards and have another go, if you are unsuccessful, you turn the cards back down and the next person takes a turn. Make sure you practise saying the numbers you turn over each time. Activity 5 – Board Games, Dice Games, Dominoes etc Always ensure that you practise using the numbers you have learned. If using two dice, you might want to use the phrase ‘Let’s roll the dice’ – vamos a tirar los dados or ‘let’s add up the two numbers’ – vamos a sumar los dos números. Activity 6 – Crack the Code Display a code where each letter of the alphabet is represented by a number. Ask children to work out the code for different words giving the answer using Spanish numbers. Your words could be in either English or Spanish. Activity 7 – Find the Hidden Treasure (a version of Battleships) Mark some hidden treasure on a grid map and using number co-ordinates challenge your partner to locate the gold without looking at the map. If you’ve heard our podcast about the alphabet you could give references using both numbers and letters. Activity 8 – Kim’s Game Display a sequence of numbers randomly on the whiteboard with one missing. Ask the children to identify the missing number by asking ¿Qué número falta?
