As the European Union is a community formed by countries with very despair productive
structures, the current research seeks to prove whether this structures condition the
macroeconomic results of each of the countries or not. With this purpose, Input-Output
tables are employed, having the opportunity to offer a better description of the country due
to the complete information of the branches present in the IOTs. Using this data, the
European Union countries were gathered into groups following the results of a cluster
analysis, obtaining five different clusters. After testing via an analysis of variance if the
different productive structures affected the recent macroeconomic indicators, it was
observed that the variances of some of the analyzed indicators differed with a high level of
signification between clusters. The conclusion is that the relationship between the
productive structure and the economic performance of the countries in the European
Union exists.

Siendo la Unión Europea una comunidad formada por países con muy dispares estructuras
productivas, la presente investigación trata de comprobar si esas estructuras condicionan los
resultados macroeconómicos de cada país. Con ese propósito, se utilizan las tablas inputoutput dado que ofrecen una detallada descripción de la economía de un país al incluir datos
específicos de cada rama de actividad. Usando estos datos, los países de la UE se agruparon
siguiendo los resultados de un análisis clúster, obteniendo cinco clústeres diferentes. Tras
testear mediante un análisis de la varianza si las distintas estructuras productivas podrían
influir en los indicadores macroeconómicos recientes, resultó que las varianzas de varios de
esos indicadores diferían entre los grupos con un alto grado de significación. Terminando
por concluir que existe una relación entre la estructura productiva y el comportamiento
económico de los países de la Unión Europea.
