Delaware 1983 and earned her Juris Doctorate at Hofstra University
School of Law in 1993.
She began her legal career as a Nassau
County Assistant District Attorney in 1993.
She began as an Assistant District Attorney in District Court prosecuting misdemeanors and later became an Assistant
District Attorney in County Court where
she prosecuted felony cases. When litigating an attempted murder case in 1999
that involved teenagers, Mention-Lewis
realized that young people were in dire
need of new, comprehensive intervention strategies.
In 1999 she was asked to become a Community Prosecutor and was
assigned to Nassau County District Attorney's "Rising Star" Program.
This initiative was created by the District Attorney’s Office to reduce
crime in specific neighborhoods by creating programs for young people, assisting the schools and serving as “an ear” for the voices in the
community.
Commissioner Mention-Lewis is the Founder of Love U University an organization that provides Life planning and self-help workshops that are
based in cognitive behavior therapy. The workshops were designed to
assist troubled youth and families to make the transition to understanding
and success. Her, Corporate Plan Workshop teaches participants how
to “kick start” their career and lives. Her Rocks in the Backpack workshop
is a self-analysis journey that help the participant find the internal tapes
and systems holding them back and enables them to become…unstuck.
Commissioner Lewis is married to Russell H. Lewis and they have four
children, Rayna 27, Randalle 25, Raven 20 and Ramsey age 13.
