Council of the European Union PRESS EN PRESS RELEASE ST 13470/14 PRESSE 477 Brussels, 24 September 2014 Appointment of judges to the Court of Justice of the European Union Today, the representatives of the governments of the member states appointed Mr Constantinos LYCOURGOS (Cyprus) as judge to the Court of Justice of the European Union from 7 October 2014 for the remainder of the term of office of Mr George ARESTIS, which ends on 6 October 2018. The representatives of member states' governments also reappointed Mr Koen LENAERTS (Belgium) and Ms Rosario SILVA DE LAPUERTA (Spain) as judges to the Court of Justice of the European Union for a further six years from 7 October 2015 to 6 October 2021. The post of further twelve judges and four advocates-general will become vacant on 6 October 2015 in the context of the partial renewal of the Court of Justice. The Court of Justice is composed of 28 judges and nine advocates general. They are appointed for a term of office of six years, which is renewable. The judges of the Court of Justice elect from amongst themselves a president for a renewable term of three years.
