Notaries and immigration consultants are NOT lawyers, they CANNOT
give legal advice; they cannot represent you in an immigration trial.
• DON’T accept legal advice from someone
who abuses your trust by calling themselves
a Notary, a Notary Public, or an Immigration
Consultant.
• DON’T sign any applications or blank
documents.
• DON’T leave original documents with
anyone.
• DON’T pay money to anyone for referring a
lawyer.
• DON’T sign any applications or other
documents that you do not understand.
• DON’T trust anyone who says he or she can
get you special treatment with a government
agency like the U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Service.
• DON’T sign any applications or other
documents that contain false information.
• DON’T trust anyone that guarantees
successful results or a faster process.
• DON’T make a payment without getting a
receipt.
• DON’T pay a lot of money to a notary public.
In Idaho, a notary cannot charge more than
$2.00 for their services.
• DON’T pay bills to Immigration with blank
money orders: write “U.S. Department of
Homeland Security.”
• DO insist that the person show their
credentials.
