Mahamat Nour Ibedou y Younous Mahadjir, portavoces de la plataforma de organizaciones de la sociedad civil Basta ya (Ça suffit), fueron arrestados los días 21 y 22 de marzo, respectivamente. Nadjo Kaina Palmer, coordinador del movimiento juvenil Estamos hartos (Iyina, en dialecto árabe local), fue arrestado el 22 de marzo. Estas cuatro personas fueron arrestadas tras comparecer en la Dirección de la Policía Judicial para ser interrogadas por orden del fiscal Alghassim Khamis. Las manifestaciones se estaban organizando para protestar contra el intento de reelección del actual presidente Idriss Déby por un quinto mandato. Field Code Changed Los cuarto activistas han sido acusados de ‘instigación para la celebración de una manifestación no armada’, ‘perturbar el orden público’ y ‘desobedecer una orden legítima’. El juicio está previsto que se celebre el 31 de marzo. Si se los declara culpables, los activistas podrían ser condenados a penas de prisión de entre seis meses y un año. La campaña electoral comenzó el 20 de marzo. Entre los candidatos se encuentra el actual presidente chadiano, Idriss Déby (en el poder desde hace 25 años tras derrocar a Hissène Habré en 1990), que aspira a un quinto mandato. En 2005 se reformó la Constitución chadiana y se suprimió el límite de dos mandatos para el cargo de presidente. El 19 de marzo, el ministro de Seguridad Pública e Inmigración de Chad, Ahmat Mahamat Bachir, anunció públicamente que, por razones de seguridad, se prohibían todas las manifestaciones públicas que no fueran parte de las campañas electorales. Según información recibida por socios en Chad, varios activistas y defensores y defensoras de los derechos humanos se han escondido desde el 21 de marzo porque la policía y la agencia de seguridad nacional pretenden detenerlos por su implicación en la plataforma Ça suffit y en el movimiento juvenil Iyina. They are currently detained at the Amsinene Prison in N’Djamena and risk jail terms of between six months to one year. Mahamat Nour Ibedou and Younous Mahadjir, spokespersons of the civil society organisations platform ‘Ça suffit’ (‘It’s enough’ in French) were arrested on 21 March and 22 March respectively. Nadjo Kaina Palmer, coordinator of the youth movement ‘Iyina’ (‘We are tired’ in local Arabic) was arrested on 22 March. Celine Narmadji, spokesperson of the civil society movement ‘Trop c’est trop !’ (‘Enough is enough’ in French) was arrested on 23 March. All four were arrested after reporting to the judicial police headquarters for questioning on orders from the Public Prosecutor Alghassim Khamis. The four activists on behalf of their respective organisations, were planning to organise peaceful public demonstrations which would have taken place on 22 March and 29 March. The demonstrations were being organised to protest against the current President Idriss Deby’s bid for re-election for a fifth mandate. The four have been charged with ‘incitement to an unarmed gathering’, ‘disturbing public order’ and ‘disobeying a lawful order’. Their trial is scheduled for 31 March. If convicted, the activists could be sentenced to jail terms of between six months to one year. The electoral campaign started on 20 March. Amongst the candidates is the current Chadian President Idriss Deby who has been in power for 25 years after toppling Hissene Habre in 1990 and is seeking a fifth term in office.
