Middle School Athletic Awards Ceremony
Important Upcoming Senior Date
All Middle School athletes who completed their 2013-2014 season
are invited to the Athletic Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May
8th at 6:00pm in The Gym. Join your teammates and coaches for
an evening of celebration as we honor all of your
accomplishments from this past year.
We are excited to announce the official date of a very important
event that is integral to the culture of YES Prep: 2014
Commencement. The date for the event is as follows:

Scholastic Book Fair!
The library will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair the week of May
12th- 16th. Come support the library and purchase books from
your child’s summer reading list! The summer is a crucial time for
maintaining all the skills your child has gained throughout the
year. According to the Journal of Education for Students Placed at
Risk, “regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic level, or previous
achievement, children who read four or more books over the
summer fare better on reading-comprehension tests in the fall
than their peers who read one or no books over the summer.”
Ensure your child’s success in the fall. Come to the book fair and

STAAR EOC and AP Exams Begin Next Week
Our students will have another week of key assessments next week.
We want you to understand the importance of the assessments and
to help your child get the necessary rest so they are highly-focused in
the upcoming week. Beginning on Monday we will have two weeks
of Advanced Placement exams. For our students in AP classes, these
exams provide an opportunity to earn college credit before taking a
college class. Their performance on these exams is also viewed by
colleges to ensure that our school is providing a rigorous curriculum
that prepares students for success in college.
Our students will also be taking the STAAR EOC exams beginning on
Monday. Students are required to pass these exams before they
graduate, so please talk to your children about these assessments
and help them get rest and eat breakfast prior to testing days.

Ceremonia de Premios Atléticos de Secundaria
Todos los atletas de secundaria que completaron su
temporada de 2013-2014 están invitados para la
ceremonia en Jueves, Mayo 8 a las 6:00pm en el
gimnasio. Únase a sus compañeros y entrenadores
mientras honramos sus logros de este año.

Estamos emocionados en anunciar la cita de un día muy
importante que es integral a nuestra cultura de YES Prep: 2014

Feria de Libros Scholastic
La librería estará patrocinando una feria de libros la
semana de Mayo 12-16. Venga a apoyar la librería y para
comprar los libros en la lista de lectura para el verano de
sus hijos! El verano es un tiempo crucial para mantener
las habilidades que han obtenido a través del año. Según
el Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk,
“Independientemente
de
etnicidad,
nivel
socioeconómico, o logros anteriores, niños que leen
cuatro o más libros durante el verano tienden a hacer
mejor en exámenes de compresión de lectura en el
otoño que sus compañeros que han leído solo un libro o
menos en el verano.” Asegúrese del triunfo de su hijo en
el otoño. Vengan a la feria de libros y eviten retrasarse!

STAAR EOC y Exámenes AP comienzan la semana que
viene
Nuestros estudiantes tendrán otra semana de exámenes claves
la semana que entra. Queremos que entiendan que estos
exámenes son muy importantes y para ayudar a sus niños a
tener suficiente descanso para estar enfocados lo suficiente en
las próximas semanas. Empezando el Lunes tendremos dos
semanas de exámenes AP. Para nuestros estudiantes en clases
AP, estos exámenes dan la oportunidad de obtener crédito
para clases de universidad antes de tomar una clase en la
universidad. Sus grados en estos exámenes también son vistos
por las universidades para asegurar que nuestra escuela está
dando clases rigorosas que preparan a nuestros estudiantes
para tener éxito en la universidad.
Nuestros estudiantes también estarán tomando los exámenes
STAAR EOC empezando el Lunes. Los estudiantes tienen que
pasar el examen para poder graduarse, así que por favor hable
con sus hijos sobre estos exámenes y ayúdenlos a tener
suficiente descanso y que desayunen antes de sus exámenes.
