This conference, designed for internists, family and general practice, emergency
medicine, and pediatric physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists and other
interested healthcare practitioners, will provide an update in the care of the athlete.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council
for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center designates this live activity for a maximum
of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The session, Return to Play Decisions, meets the annual requirement of the Texas
Medical Board for continuing medical education credit in medical ethics or professional
responsibility.
Following the conference, the participant should be able to:
• Identify symptoms and effectively manage a concussion
• Explain factors related to competitive sports that affect glucose homeostasis and
strategies for safe and effective participation in sports
• Perform ankle, knee, and shoulder examinations, determine injuries, and apply
appropriate treatment strategies
• Describe the ethical considerations involved in the return-to-play decisions
• Discuss the role of the physical therapist and physical therapy prescription in the
treatment of sports-related injuries
