We are very excited to start our take-home reading

Dear 1st. Grade Parents:
We are very excited to start our take-home reading program! Every week, the students will be taking home leveled books in
their book bag to practice their reading. Your child may choose to read these books, other books from home or poems from
their red folder as their daily reading homework. The following are some suggestions to help keep us organized and on track
to a successful year!







Please make sure that you record the book title or poem title, date, and your initials in the reading log daily. Your
child may choose to read in Spanish, English, or both! However, we encourage the students to read comparable
amounts in both English and Spanish.
Your child has also been assigned a book bag that should contain the reading log and the books of the week. The
book bag and its items should be taken home and brought back daily. For conservation purposes, please keep the
book bag and its items in a safe place. If the book bag or books are damaged or lost, a monetary fine may be given to
replace the items.
The completed Reading Log sheets will be kept in class so we may keep a record of how many books your child has
read.
If your child is having trouble reading a book, please let us know so we can discuss any possible accommodations.
While your child is reading, make sure to ask them comprehension questions to ensure they understand the reading
assignment.
Attached to the Reading Log are some additional documents that may be helpful to your child's reading.
Most importantly, show your child how proud you are that they are reading books in two languages!
If you have any questions, please let us know and we will try to help any way we can. As we progress, the take-home reading
procedures may change to accommodate the students' needs.

¡Estamos muy emocionadas de comenzar el programa de lectura en casa! Los
estudiantes
llevarán libros a casa en su bolsita diariamente para practicar la lectura. Su hijo(a) podrá leer estos libros, otros libros de la
casa o la poesía que se encuentra en la carpeta roja. Las siguientes son algunas sugerencias que los ayudará a estar
organizados para tener éxito este año.
En el registro de lectura por favor escriba el título del libro o poema, la fecha y sus iniciales cada tarde que su hijo(a)
lea. ¡Su hijo(a) podrá escoger libros en inglés, español o en los dos idiomas! Les pedimos que la cantidad de lectura
en inglés sea comparable a la cantidad de lectura en español.
 A su hijo(a) le ha sido asignada una bolsita para guardar los libros de la semana y su registro de lectura. La bolsita y
su contenido debe ser llevada a casa y regresada diariamente. Si la bolsita o los libros son dañados o se pierden, es
posible que tenga que pagar una multa para reemplazar los artículos.
 Las hojas completadas del registro de lectura se quedarán en la clase para poder llevar una cuenta de la cantidad
de libros que ha leído su hijo(a) este año.
 Si su hijo(a) está teniendo problemas con la lectura asignada, déjenos saber para discutir las acomodaciones
necesarias.
 Cuándo su hijo(a) esté leyendo, por favor pregúntele sobre el libro para asegurarse que su hijo(a) entendió la
lectura.
 Adjunto al registro de lectura incluimos actividades que podrán ayudar a mejorar la lectura de su hijo(a).
 ¡No se olvide decirle a su hijo(a) lo orgulloso que está de él/ella porque él/ella puede leer libros en dos idiomas!

en casa podrían cambiar para servir mejor las necesidades de los estudiantes.
