GENERAL TECHNICAL GUIDELINES FOR THE PARTICIPATING SOLOS
For those selected to participate in the Solo Contest
(We enclose the theatre technical rider, please download this information and print it)*
Taking into account the number of participants in MASDANZA and given the little time available
to prepare the stage and the lighting for the performances, we kindly ask you to read very carefully
the following instructions:
1.- Each soloist will have a first rehearsal of 40 MINUTES to prepare the lights and to make the
first contact with the stage. During that time all the lighting effects must be recorded on the lighting
desk, and the light and sound must be checked. We require punctuality, the timetable will be strictly
followed.
2.- Light orientation as well as the colour filters used in the theatre cannot be modified, with the
exception of side lights, where only the colour (filter) can be modified. In case a performer wishes to
change the colour of the side lights, he must bring the filters himself.
This is a contest and all the soloists must have the same opportunities. Because of this and given the
technical limitations of the theatre, special lights which are not on our technical plan (rider) will not
be assigned.
Solos that include more lighting effects in their piece or that have a specific design (even if sent in the
participation video) must adapt to these conditions.
As soon as you arrive, the lighting technician will show you the orientation and coverage area of each
light.
There is no back curtain. The back of the theatre is a curved black wall. The only way to move from
one side to another side of the stage is by going underneath it. The stage will be empty with no side
curtains (legs).
A screen could be installed at the back for those pieces which require a projection, but it cannot be
used as a cyclorama.
3.- The lightboard records and reproduces exactly all the effects previously rehearsed. Please fill in
the effects page we enclose next and make copies for the theatre technician.
4.- All the soloists must be accompanied by a stage manager or technician who will be in the
control room and in charge of giving the orders to the lightning control (when to introduce cues)
and also in control of the sound of the piece (prepare and play CD, use soundmixer for volume
during the piece, etc.). Therefore the stage manager or technician must know the performance
throughout, as well as when and where the lighting and sound changes must take place.
5.- The maximum number of light effects permitted per soloist is 10. Understanding light effect as
the recording of a light effect composed by the different spotlights and their respective intensities.
Black outs are not considered as a light effect. We recommend all participants, however, to limit as
much as possible their light effects.

6.- We remind you that the elements of the set must be of easy and quick installation, as specified in
the participation bases of the Contest. No extra elements must be added to the performances we
have already seen in the participation videos you sent us.
You must also take into account that the installation and removal of the stage material should be
done within the rehearsal time assigned to each soloist.
