IX INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE
CONSUMPTION OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

DECLARACIÓN DE BUDAPEST
Los representantes de AIAM5 e IFAVA procedentes de 23 países y encargados de la
promoción nacional del consumo de frutas y verduras, reunidos el día 19 de septiembre
de 2013 en la ciudad de Budapest, en el marco del IX Congreso Internacional para la
Promoción del Consumo de Frutas y Hortalizas, constituyeron la 3ª mesa de trabajo "5 al
día internacional" y DECLARARON que:
BUDAPEST DECLARATION
The representatives of AIAM5 and IFAVA coming from 23 countries and in charge of
national promotion for consumption of fruits and vegetables, meeting on september 19 of
2013 in the city of Budapest, around the 3rd "5 a day International" workingtable, in the
framework of the IX International Conference for the promotion for the consumption of
fruit and vegetables, DECLARE that:
1. Es críticamente importante incrementar el consumo de frutas y verduras para la
promoción de la salud pública y la prevención de Enfermedades Crónicas No
Transmisibles -ECNT.
The increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables is critically important to promote
public health and prevent Non Comunicable Diseases - NCD.
2. La promoción del consumo de frutas y verduras debería ser apoyada e incluirse en las
políticas públicas nacionales de salud, educación y agricultura.
The promotion of the consumption of fruit and vegetables should be supported and
included in the national public health, education and agricultural policies.
3. Ambas alianzas están alineadas en la promoción del consumo de frutas y verduras
con los objetivos de la Estrategia Mundial Sobre Regimen Alimentario, Actividad Fisica
y Salud1, y de la Inicitaiva de Frutas y Verduras por la salud FAO/OMS2.
Both alliances are aligned in the promotion of the consumption of fruit and vegetables
with the aims of the World Strategies for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Health1 and Fruit
and Vegetables Initiative for Health FAO/WHO2.

4. La celebración del Día Mundial de las Frutas y Verduras es un escenario en el cual la
población mundial podrá tomar conciencia de la importancia del consumo diario de las
frutas y verduras. Este día será el viernes de la semana del Día Mundial de la Alimentación
y en el 2013 será el 18 de Octubre.
The celebration of the World Day of Fruits and Vegetebles is a perfect occasion to
increase consumer's awareness about fruit and vegetables. This day will be every Friday of
the week where the World Food Day is celebrated, in 2013 it will be October 18th.
Por todo lo anterior, los 23 países miembros de AIAM5 e IFAVA hacen un llamado a la FAO
y OMS para que:
The 23 countries members of AIAM5 and IFAVA, request FAO and WHO to:
Reconozcan a la Plataforma AIAM5 – FAVA como un grupo de interés (Stakeholder) en la
Iniciativa de Frutas y Verduras de acuerdo a los objetivos de FAO-OMS
comprometiéndonos a apoyar las estrategias y directrices marcadas desde la Iniciativa,
para mejorar la producción y el consumo de frutas y verduras, con el fin de prevenir y
contener las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles y mejorar la seguridad alimentaria
mundial, todo ello en un marco desarrollo humano, clave de la biodiversidad y
sostenibilidad de nuestro planeta.
Recognize the platform AIAM5 – IFAVA as a stakeholder in the Initiative of Fruit and
Vegetables for Health according to the aims of FAO-WHO, committing to support the
strategies and guidelines set from the initiative, to improve production and consumption
of fruit and vegetables, in order to prevent and control NCDs and improve global Food
Security within the framework of human development, as a key role in the biodiversity and
sustainability of our planet.
