Requirements for Baptism
If you are planning to baptize your son/daughter at Saint Patrick Parish, Lowell, you should keep
in mind the following requirements:
1) The parents of the child to be baptized must be registered prior to the baptism. If the
parents are not registered, they can do so and in the mean time they can participate in the
pre-baptismal classes.
2) The times of the catechesis for baptismal preparation are:
a. The pre-baptismal classes are offered in English and in Spanish.
b. There are 3 consecutive classes, offered the first 3 Sundays of the month.
c. The baptism is celebrated the fourth Saturday or Sunday of the month. The
ceremony in English is celebrated at 4PM on Saturdays or 10AM on Sundays. The
ceremony in Spanish is celebrated at 6PM on Saturday or 11:30AM on Sunday.
3) The parents and godparents must participate in all the catechesis for the baptismal
preparation.
4) Prior to starting the catechesis the parents must fill out an application, together with
Sister Milagros Delgado, mss for English speaking members or with Sr. Martha Gil, mss
for the Spanish speaking parishioners. At the time of the registration, the parents must
bring a copy of the child’s Birth Certificate.
5) If the godparents do no belong to this parish, they must bring with them a letter from their
parish stating they can be the child’s godparent at Saint Patrick Parish, Lowell. Also, they
must complete the catechesis for baptismal preparation at their parish and bring a
notification indicating they have completed the baptismal preparation.
6) The godparents must be Catholic, and active in their faith. The godparents must have
received the sacrament of Confirmation and if they are in a relationship and live with that
person, they must be married by the Church, even if only one of them is going to be the
godparent.
7) For baptisms, there are usually two godparents: the godfather and the godmother. It is
also permitted one godfather or one godmother.
If your child is over the age of six, he/she cannot be baptized during our regular monthly
ceremonies. Instead, he/she will need to enroll in the Religious Education Program. The
preparation will last two years, at this point the child will receive both the Sacrament of Baptism
and the Sacrament of Communion. For the religious Education program please contact SR.

Requisitos para la celebración del Bautismo
Si usted desea bautizar a su hijo(a) en la Parroquia de San Patricio de Lowell, debe tener en
cuenta lo siguiente.
1) Los padres del niño(a) a bautizarse deben estar registrados en la parroquia, por lo menos
tres meses. Si no están, pueden registrarse y atender a la catequesis de preparación
mientras tanto.
2) La catequesis de preparación para los bautizos son:
3 clases consecutivas, los primeros 3 domingos del mes.
Los bautizos se celebran el fin de semana del cuarto sábado/domingo de cada
mes:
. En inglés, el sábado a las 4:00PM o domingo a las 10:00AM
. En español el sábado a las 6:00PM o el domingo a las 11:30AM.
3) Los Padres y Padrinos deben participar de la catequesis completa.
4) Antes de la fecha de las catequesis los padres deben llenar la aplicación, las fechas para
ello aparecerán cada mes en el boletín. Este día debe traer el Registro de Nacimiento de
su hijo(a).
5) Si los padrinos no pertenecen a la parroquia, deben traer, el día que los padres vienen a
llenar la aplicación, una carta de su parroquia autorizando sean padrinos en San Patricio.
Igualmente pueden asistir a las catequesis de preparación en su parroquia y traer
constancia de ello.
6) Los padrinos, deben ser católicos practicantes y haber recibido el sacramento de la
Confirmación. Si viven con alguien como pareja, deben ser casados por la Iglesia, aunque
ambos no vayan a ser los padrinos.
7) Para el bautismo, regularmente se usa un padrino y una madrina. Un padrino o madrina
también es permitido.
Si su hijo(a) es mayor de 6 años, el/ella no puede ser bautizado hasta que asista a la catequesis,
la cual tiene una duración de dos años. Para registrarse en el programa de Educación Religiosa
