William Knight Elementary School
A community of learners dedicated to developing responsible, respectful, skilled and compassionate citizens.
Dear Knight Community,
Congratulations to the twenty-two 3rd through 5th grade students who participated
in the Oregon Battle of the Books! They have worked so hard to read all of the
sixteen books that were assigned. In their teams, they learned to rely on one another,
to take responsibility for coming to training meetings, read their books, and calm one
another down when things got stressful during competition. Most importantly, they
had a great time reading new books and had fun! A very heartfelt "thank you" goes to the two volunteer leaders, Heather Anderson and
Dian Moore. These two ladies did a great job of communicating with families,
planning, organizing, and running training sessions! Thank you to Debi Veatch and
other parent volunteers for helping out as well. Great extra-curricular programs like
this happen because of these fantastic volunteers!
The following students participated in the 2016 Battle of the Books altogether reading
a whopping 247 books.

Art Literacy
During our Scandinavian Arts and Culture Day our students were able to learn about
Scandinavian music and dance "Dancing around a midsommarstång or Maypole" to
some traditional Swedish music. We took in some Scandinavian Food and Literature by
sampling some Swedish meatballs, lefse and lingonberry drink, while being read a
traditional Scandinavian story. Students also got to make a smällkarameller or Swedish
cracker/craft to take home with them.
A huge "thank you" is in order to all of the Art Literacy parents and their leaders, Dian
Moor and Heather Anderson! The success of such an event can't be done without all
of the help. Thank you also to IKEA for their donation of Swedish meatballs (a tasty treat
that the kids LOVED!) and thank you to Doris Johnson and Sydney Bush. These two
lovely ladies from the Daughters of Norway wore traditional dresses and shared their
stories and knowledge of Scandinavia with our students. It was a great day for all!
February Perfect Attendance
Knight Elementary School is pleased to
announce that a 116 students received
perfect attendance tags for the the
month of February! That means that not
only did these students come to school
each day in February, but they also
came to school on time and stayed all
day, everyday!! While we congratulate
the students who worked for this
accomplishment, we know that parents
are also to congratulate. The perfect
attendance student for February is
Baidyn Colby. Congratulations to his
mother, Carina Drake, she is the
recipient of the February gift card!

Escuela Primaria William Knight
Comunidad de aprendices para desarrollar ciudadanos, responsables, respetuosos, preparados y compasivos.
Estimada comunidad de Knight,
¡Felicitaciones para los veintidós estudiantes de 3ro a 5to grado quienes participaron
en Oregon Battle of the Books (competencia de lectura)! Ellos se han esforzado tanto
para leer todos los dieciséis libros que les fueron asignados. En sus equipos, ellos
aprendieron a depender el uno del otro, tomar la responsabilidad de venir a las
juntas de entrenamiento, leer sus libros y calmarse el uno al otro cuando las cosas se
pusieron estresantes durante la competencia. Lo más importante, ellos pasaron un
magnífico tiempo leyendo y ¡se divirtieron!
Un “agradecimiento” de todo corazón para las dos voluntarias líderes, Heather
Anderson y Dian Moore. ¡Estas dos señoras hicieron un magnífico trabajo
comunicándose con las familias, planeando, organizando y llevando a cabo las
sesiones de entrenamiento! Un agradecimiento para Debi Veatch y los otros padres
voluntarios por también ayudar. ¡Estos excelentes programas extracurriculares como
éste suceden debido a estos fantásticos voluntarios!

Estudio del Arte
Durante nuestro día de las Artes y Cultura Escandinava, nuestros estudiantes pudieron
aprender sobre la música y baile escandinavos “bailando alrededor de un
midsommarstång o palo de mayo" al ritmo de la música tradicional sueca. Experimentamos algunas muestras de comida y literatura escandinava al probar unas
albóndigas suecas, lefse y una bebida de mora ártica, mientras se leía una historia
tradicional escandinava. Los estudiantes también pudieron hacer una smällkarameller o galleta sueca/
manualidad para que ellos la llevaran a casa. ¡Se merecen un enorme “agradecimiento” todos los padres y sus líderes del Estudio de
Arte, Dian Moor y Heather Anderson! El éxito de tal evento no se puede lograr sin toda
su ayuda. También gracias IKEA por su donación de las albóndigas suecas (¡un
bocadillo rico que a los niños les ENCANTÓ!) y gracias a Doris Johnson y Sydney Bush.
Estas dos encantadoras señoras de las Hijas de Noruega usaron vestidos tradicionales y
compartieron sus historias y conocimiento de Escandinava con nuestros estudiantes.

Asistencia Perfecta del Mes de Febrero
¡La Escuela Primaria Knight se complace
en informarles que una tremenda
cantidad de 116 estudiantes obtuvieron
una asistencia perfecta para el mes de
febrero! ¡Esto no sólo significa que estos
estudiantes asistieron a la escuela todos
los días en el mes de febrero sino que
también llegaron a tiempo y estuvieron
presentes todo el día escolar cada día!
Aunque felicitamos a los estudiantes por
este logro, sabemos que también hay
que felicitar a los padres. El estudiante
con una asistencia perfecta en el mes
de febrero es Baidyn Colby.
