INTRODUCTION
At O Castro International British School we believe that
extracurricular activities are an essential part of education.
Academic activities such as languages or scientific focused/
technical activities contribute to widen our pupil´s skills
beyond the curriculum for an increasingly demanding and
globalized world and job market.
Sports and artistic activities give students the opportunity
to develop different abilities, values and habits that will
enrich their lives and will play a key role in their all-round
development as individuals.
At OCIS we offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities,
with progressing programs designed from a pedagogic
perspective in order to meet the needs and demands of all
students. Most activities are done once a week in the first
year, and usually at lunch time; then, they progress to two
session and in the afternoon (though not necessarily in the
same year), when more time is available.

En O Castro International consideramos que las actividades extracurriculares son un elemento esencial de la
educación.
Las actividades académicas como los idiomas o aquellas
relacionadas con ciencias o tecnología ayudan a ampliar
las habilidades de los alumnos más allá del currículo,
preparándolos para un mundo cada vez más exigente y
globalizado.
Las actividades artísticas y deportivas proporcionan a los
alumnos la oportunidad de desarrollar nuevas habilidades,
valores y rutinas que enriquecen sus vidas y juegan un papel
esencial en su desarrollo integral como individuos.
En OCIS ofrecemos una gran variedad de actividades extracurriculares, con programas diseñados desde un punto de
vista pedagógico para cubrir las necesidades y demandas
de todos los alumnos. La mayoría de las actividades se
realizan una vez a la semana y normalmente en horario
de mediodía los primeros años; después progresan a dos
sesiones y en horario de tarde (no necesariamente el mismo año), lo cual permite sesiones de mayor duración.

Multisports
Offered from reception to year 2. It is the
ideal introductory activity into sports for
children aged 4-6, since specialization is
still not recommended at this age. In this
activity children will experience a variety
of motor skill activities related to different sports, such as football, basketball,
floorball, tennis, rugby…

Ofrecido para alumnos desde Reception hasta Year 2. Es la actividad ideal
para introducir a los más pequeños a las
actividades deportivas, al no recomendarse la especialización en estas
edades. Durante esta actividad los niños
experimentan una gran variedad de
experiencias motoras y de coordinación
relacionadas con deportes como el
fútbol, el baloncesto, el floorball, el tenis
y el rugby.
Music and movement
Like multisports, it is offered for younger
children, in this case for reception and
year 1, and it is ideal for starting to experience music in a fun and lively manner,
and relating it to body expression and
movement.

extremely popular activity at school, and
will be offered from Year 2. As Benjamin
Franklin said,
“The Game of Chess is not merely an idle amusement; several very valuable qualities of the

acquired and strengthened by it, so as to become
habits ready on all occasions.”

Muchos lo consideran como una
medida de la inteligencia humana y se
ha convertido en una actividad muy popular en nuestro colegio. Lo ofrecemos
para alumnos a partir de Year 2. “El juego
del ajedrez no es simplemente un entretenimiento ocioso; múltiples cualidades
de la mente útiles en el curso de la vida
humana, se adquieren y refuerzan mediante este juego, para convertirse en

all over the world. Our football school is
run in association with the Fundación
Celta de Vigo. From 2014-2015 the

Rugby is not only one of the most popular sports in Great Britain, but it could
even be considered a part of the British
culture. Moreover, it is a sport with an important focus on sportsmanship values
and teamwork – values that OCIS clearly
identifies itself with! The Vigo Rugby club
participates in the organization of the
activity.

británica. Es un deporte que desarrolla
el espíritu deportivo y el trabajo en grupo
– dos valores que son muy importantes

In Year 4, when more time is necessary
to progress properly, ballet is offered in
the afternoon. Spanish Dance, which
uses many of the techniques learnt
in ballet, is available as an activity at

In music we follow this scheme of progression: after Music and Movement ,
year 2-3 students, as an introduction
to instruments, will use instruments
such as drums, recorders and xylophones to form an Orff ensemble, before
children in Year 4 and above learn to play
the Ukulele.

In Musical Theatre, children learn
how to combine dance, theatre and singing in order to represent a play. Offered

Directed study
gives pupils the opportunity to receive
support with homework and classwork
under the supervision and guidance of
OCIS teaching staff.
The Afterschool club offers
parents the peace of mind of continued
supervision for all their children, including those whose brothers and sisters
are taking part in extracurricular activities afterschool.

PROGRAMMING AND ROBOTICS
The aim of this activity is to introduce
the topic of programming and robotics,
which is becoming an increasing integral
part of the school’s curriculum. Students will learn different programming
languages ((Alice, Hopscotch, Scratch,
Lego mindstorms, processing) and will
work with various physical materials
(Lego WeDo, Lego Mindstorm EV3, Littlebits, Cubelets, Arduino y Tinkerkit). From
Year 3.
PROGRAMACIÓN Y ROBÓTICA
El objetivo de la actividad es iniciarse
con la robótica y la programación, que
son disciplinas que progresivamente estamos introduciendo en el currículo del
colegio. Los alumnos aprenderán distintos lenguajes de programación (Alice,

Students will be divided into groups
and will choose a topic, which they are
motivated by, to research during the
year. In order to carry out the research
they will enlist the help of teachers, other
professionals and expert researchers on
their topic. Throughout the year they will
be guided in their research. At the end
of the school year they will take part in a
school competition where they will present their research findings. They may
also have the opportunity to take part in
national and international presentations.
From Year 6.
PROYECTOS DE INVESTIGACIÓN
Los alumnos se dividirán en grupos de
su elección y escogerán un tema que les
motive para hacer una investigación a
lo largo del año. Para ello contarán con
la ayuda de los profesores encargados
de la actividad y de otros profesionales
e investigadores expertos en la materia
elegida. A lo largo del año se les guiará
en su investigación. A final de curso
harán en un certamen del colegio una
exposición de los resultados de su
investigación. También podrán hacer la
presentación en certámenes nacionales
e internacionales. Desde Year 6

In OCIS we have a Radio Club in which
students learn to write scripts in different radio formats (interviews, magazine,
musical,1 news,..). They create their own
programs and take charge of the OCIS
radio programming schedule. It is an
activity which stimulates spoken English
and creative intelligence as students
begin to value their existing skills and
knowledge. From Year 6.

CLUB DE RADIO
En OCIS tenemos un Club de Radio. En
él los alumnos aprenden a hacer guiones
de los distintos formatos (entrevista,
magazine, musical, informativo, etcétera), montan sus propios programas y
confeccionan la programación de Radio
OCIS. Es una actividad que estimula el
inglés hablado y la inteligencia creativa al
obligar a poner en valor sus habilidades y
conocimientos. Desde Year 6.
