GREENWOOD, IN – Earlham College’s Joy Doucette (Berwyn Heights, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and
Hanover College’s Kaitlin McCulloch (Florence, Ky./Boone Co.) have been named the 2012 Heartland
Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players. Doucette, a senior
forward, helped guide the Quakers to the school’s third-straight HCAC championship and earn the top seed in the
conference tournament. McCulloch anchored a Panthers defense that ranked first in the HCAC this season.
Doucette was an offensive leader for the Quakers all season long, totaling an HCAC-best 33 points this season. The
senior ranked second in the HCAC with 11 goals scored and added an HCAC-leading 11 assists.
McCulloch, a senior back for Hanover, was a star on a defensive unit that allowed only 10 goals and posted 10
shutouts in 19 matches this season, including only four goals allowed in conference play.
The HCAC has also announced the 2012 Freshman of the Year. Rose-Hulman’s Lucinda Combs (Danville,
Ky./Boyle Co.) earned the award for her efforts during her first season as an Engineer. Combs was one of the top
goalkeepers in the HCAC this season, ranking third overall in goals against (15), third in shutouts (8), and first in
save percentage (.875).
Earlham head coach Shane Meredith has been named the 2012 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of
the Year in his first season as coach of the Quakers. Meredith led EC to a 12-5-2 overall record and a 7-1-1 record
in conference play, claiming the school’s third-straight conference championship. Earlham fell to Transylvania in
the conference tournament championship in penalty kicks, ending its season. This is Coach Meredith’s first Coach
of the Year honor.
Joining Doucette, McCulloch, and Combs on the All-HCAC team are Bluffton University’s Maddie Moore (Sr.,
Linn Grove, Ind.), Defiance College’s Karly Smith (Jr., Parma, Ohio) and Katie Heitkamp (Sr., St. Marys, Ohio),
Earlham College’s Ikumi Doucette (Sr., Berwyn Heights, Md.), Ryder Comstock (Sr., Yellow Springs, Ohio), and
Paige Thomas (Sr., Bel Air, Md.), Hanover College’s Tricia Walsh (So., Amelia, Ohio), Manchester University’s
Katelyn Barta (So., Griffith, Ind.) and Emily Willmann (So., Montpelier, Ind.), Rose-Hulman’s Nicky Wheeler (So.,
Avon, Ind.) and Katie DeMoss (Fr., Martinsville, Ind.), and Transylvania University’s Alyssa Kruse (So.,
Lexington, Ky.), Ashley Cobane (Sr., Nicholasville, Ky.), and Anne Marie Dumaine (Jr., California, Ky.).
