The third quarter is off and running! Here at Wright there will be many new, exciting and challenging events occurring
that stay focused on student learning. I am seeing many wonderful and exciting activities happening in the classrooms
and around the school that are engaging the students. It is extremely important that students understand that school is
a place to learn academic, social, and emotional skills. Staff at Wright are here to assist students with their development
of those skill. The Wright staff and students are continuing to work hard on skills needed for lifelong success. I want to
reassure all of the Wright community that staff and teachers at this school are highly skilled professionals and are
forging on to leave no child behind. We expect excellence from all of our students as well as our teachers, and we push
our students to their highest level of achievement. Hopefully, the students are settling into their roles as continuous
learners. Every day is a new day and every moment is a new moment. We can’t change what happened yesterday, only
learn from it and make it better the next time we happen upon an experience we’ve previously encountered.
This month I would like to talk about attendance and tardiness. Parents want what is best for their child—that goes
without saying. But oftentimes, parents seem to underestimate the importance of getting their children to school on
time. And school attendance is definitely in a child’s best interest.
Yes, of course it is better to bring your child to school tardy than to not bring him at all. But, lateness is not beneficial for
your child. This is because classroom work starts at the moment the bell rings, and if your child isn’t there, he will miss
what may be important information. He may miss learning something new and he will have to catch up later.
Of course, occasional tardiness is not the end of the world. Nor is the occasional day away from school. Neither of these
will cause your child to miss so much information that it would be impossible for him to catch up. But, repeated
tardiness and absences can make your child fall behind.
Getting to school on time is important! Almost every minute of every school day involves some learning time. Our
learning time begins at 8:15am. Students who arrive after the last bell must check in at the office and are counted as
tardy. If a child is late by 10 minutes every day they miss 50 minutes of learning in a week and over 200 minutes a
month which is equivalent to 4 entire classes a month.. If your child is late more than once or twice a quarter, look at
their morning routine and make some changes. Earlier bedtimes or preparing the evening before may solve the
problem. As a family, make getting to school on time a priority. This will establish good habits for your children for the
rest of their lives. The number one reason for termination from a job is attendance and tardiness. We appreciate all of
your support with assisting your children to give their best each and every day. So let’s continue to soar high with
Panther pride!

Este año escolar está en plena marcha! En Wright se realizarán muchos nuevos eventos emocionantes y desafiantes que
estarán dirigidos a estimular el aprendizaje de nuestros estudiantes. He visto como se desarrollan muchas actividades
estupendas y atractivas para los estudiantes dentro y fuera del salón de clases. Es extremadamente importante que los
estudiantes entiendan que la escuela es un lugar en que se aprenden habilidades académicas, sociales y emocionales. El
personal de la escuela Wright esta aquí para asistir a los estudiantes a desarrollar esas habilidades. Ambos, estudiantes y
personal de Wright continúan trabajando mucho para desarrollar las habilidades necesarias para tener éxito en la vida.
Quiero asegurarles a todos los miembros de la comunidad de Wright que los maestros y el personal de esta escuela son
profesionales altamente capacitados que continúan con la labor de no dejar a ningún niño atrás. Nosotros esperamos
que nuestros estudiantes y maestros demuestren un desempeño de excelencia. Exigimos que nuestros estudiantes
alcancen el nivel de logros más alto posible para cada uno. Afortunadamente, nuestros estudiantes están
acostumbrándose a la idea de su rol de estudiantes permanente. Cada día es un día nuevo y cada momento es un
momento nuevo. No podemos cambiar lo que ocurrió ayer, solamente podemos aprender de ello para estar mejor
preparados cuando nos enfrentemos a una experiencia similar.
Este mes quisiera hablar de la asistencia y los atrasos. Los padres desean lo mejor para sus hijos—eso se da por
entendido. Pero frecuentemente los padres parecen subestimar la importancia de que los niños lleguen a tiempo a la
escuela. Asistir a la escuela es definitivamente en beneficio de los estudiantes.
Si, por supuesto que es mejor traer a su hijo a la escuela atrasado que no traerlo del todo. Sin embargo, llegar atrasado
no es beneficioso para su hijo debido a que el trabajo de la clase comienza al momento en que suena la campana., y si su
hijo no esta presente perderá información que puede ser importante. Puede perder de aprender algo nuevo y tendrá
que ponerse al día mas tarde.
Por supuesto que llegar tarde ocasionalmente no es el fin del otro mundo. Tampoco lo es el perder un día de escuela
ocasionalmente. Ninguna de estas situaciones hará que su hijo pierda tanta información como para que le sea imposible
ponerse al día. Pero si ambas situaciones ocurren en forma repetida pueden hacer que su hijo se retrase
académicamente.
¡Llegar a la escuela a tiempo es importante! Casi cada minuto del día escolar implica algún tipo de aprendizaje. Nuestro
tiempo de instrucción comienza a las 8:15 am. Los estudiantes que llegan a la escuela después de la última campana
deben pasar por la oficina y se les cuenta como atrasados. Si un estudiante llega 10 minutos tarde cada día, en una
semana perderá 50 minutos de aprendizaje y mas de 200 minutos en un mes, lo que equivale e 4 clases completas por
mes. Si su hijo llega tarde mas de una o dos veces por cuarto (período de 9 semanas), revise su rutina matinal e
introduzca algunos cambios. Es posible que el problema se resuelva con irse a la cama más temprano o con preparar las
cosas para la escuela la noche anterior. Haga que llegar a tiempo a la escuela sea una prioridad de su familia. Esto
establecerá buenos hábitos para el resto de la vida de sus hijos. La causa número uno de despidos es la asistencia y los
atrasos. Nosotros apreciamos su apoyo para lograr que sus hijos entreguen lo mejor de ellos cada día. ¡Sigamos
adelante, aun más alto, siempre con orgullo de pantera!

Los estudiantes que aparecen en el cuadro de honor de Wright han logrado una calificación promedio de 3.2 o más. Los
estudiantes que aparecen en el cuadro de alto honor (high honor roll en inglés) han logrado una calificación promedio
de 3.5 o más. Aquellos estudiantes frente a cuyos nombres se ha puesto un * han lograron una calificación promedio
de 4.0 (solamente As).
Honors Breakfast
Our annual Honors Breakfast will be held on May 11 from 8-9 a.m. This event recognizes students who made honor roll
for two of the first three quarters, as well as others who will receive an invite to the breakfast.

Nuestro Desayuno de Honor Anual se celebrará el día 11 de Mayo desde las 8:00-9:00 am. En este evento reconocerá a
los estudiantes que alcanzaron el cuadro de honor en dos de los tres primeros cuartos del año escolar, y a otros
estudiantes destacados.
6th Grade Social Studies
In 6th Grade Social Studies we ended the year with our first of two classroom debates. After studying two ancient
empires, the Persians and the Assyrians, students were divided into two teams and squared off in class to determine
which civilization was better at creating, controlling and managing their empire. The quality of the arguments was high.
Students did an excellent job of supporting their arguments with facts we learned in class. The following students were
named debate All-Stars for their excellent participation: Xio Bello, Eric Armenta, Tiasia Wilhelmi, Brett Morgan, Jaden
Stephens, Marshya Hamilton, Corrinne Casey, Vinh Tang, Jonnatan Contreras, Shaela Flowers, Keyshawn Webster, Aaron
Osterberg, Johathan Tlatoa, Stephon Williams, Breeontae Johnson, Sterling Daniels Jr., Aaron Talbert, Brian Espinoza and
Eriana Thomas.
En la clase de Estudios Sociales de 6to grado terminamos el año realizando el primero de los dos debates que se llevaran
a cabo en esta clase. Después de estudiar Persia y Asiria, dos de los imperios de la antigüedad, se dividió a los
estudiantes en dos equipos que debatieron en clase para determinar cual de estas civilizaciones fue mas exitosa
creando, controlando y manejando su imperio. La calidad de los argumentos planteados por los estudiantes fue alta, y
además, ellos fueron capaces de apoyar estos argumentos con hechos aprendidos en clase. Los siguientes estudiantes
fueron considerados como los mas destacados por su excelente participación: Xiomara Bello, Eric Armenta, Tiasia
Wilhelmi, Brett Morgan, Jaden Stephens, Marshya Hamilton, Corrinne Casey, Vinh Tang, Jonnatan Contreras, Shaela
Flowers, Keyshawn Webster, Aaron Osterberg, Johathan Tlatoa, Stephon Williams, Breeontae Johnson, Sterling Daniels

Spelling Bee Winners Announced
Congrats to our Spelling Bee winners!
Ari Davis outlasted a competitive group to become our spelling bee
champ. Runner up was Emma Hanson. Ari will represent Wright at the all-City Bee on February 11th at Edgewood
College. Good luck, Ari!

¡Felicidades a nuestros ganadores del concurso de ortografía! Ari Davis compitió con un grupo competitivo de
estudiantes para coronarse como nuestro campeón del concurso de ortografía. La subcampeona fue Emma Hanson. Ari
