Historic Roots:
A New and Improved M.L.K., Jr. Park!
Maritime Center Restoration
M.L.K., Jr. Park is under construction. Phase I will be completed in December 2010. The new park will feature a
regulation-size track, turf field, picnic space, and new
play equipment. It will also have markers to honor the
deep and rich history of our City. Sports leagues and
schools will share the new Park with the community.
Built in 1943, the Maritime
Center was one of the first child
development centers in the US.
The building is being preserved
and restored. When the restoration is completed in 2011, it will
house RCP students, RCF offices,
and a National Park Service
museum space.
Celebrate Reading
Nystrom Breaks Ground!
Construction has started on the new
Multi-purpose Building at Nystrom
Elementary! The space will have a
stage and other features for youth
and families to enjoy. It will be shared
by students and residents in the
neighborhood.
The NURVE Education Action Team
with RCP Charter School and West
County Reads have launched the
“Take It, Leave It, Book Shelf”
Lending Library project. West County
Reads received a grant from RCF to
fund the purchase of eight bookshelves that will be placed at popular
community sites, such as a health
clinic and laundromat. The books
highlight multicultural stories, and are
geared toward children ages 3-10.

Raíces Históricas: Restauración
del Centro Marítimo
Construido en 1943, el centro
marítimo fue uno de los primeros
centros de desarrollo infantil en
los Estados Unidos. El edificio se
está preservando y restaurando. Cuando la restauración
se termine en el 2011, alojará a
los estudiantes del RCP y a un
museo del servicio de parque nacional.
¡El Nuevo Parque M.L.K. Jr.!
El Parque M.L.K. Jr. está bajo construcción. La fase I será terminada en diciembre de 2010. El nuevo parque ofrecerá una pista
de tamaño reglamentario, un campo de césped, un espacio para
comer al aire libre y nuevo equipo de juegos. También tendrá indacadores de la historia profunda de nuestra ciudad. Las ligas deportistas y las escuelas compartirán el nuevo parque con la comunidad.
¡Se Comienza la Obra en Nystrom!
¡La construcción ha comenzado en el
nuevo edificio de multiusos en la escuela elementaria Nystrom! El espacio
tendrá un escenario y otros ofrecimientos para que gocen los jovenes
y sus familias. Será compartido por
los estudiantes y los residentes de la
vecindad.
Celébre la Lectura El Equipo de la Acción de la Educación de NURVE junto
con la escuela autónoma del RCP y el
West County Reads ha puesto en marcha “Lo Toma y Lo Deja," un proyecto
de la biblioteca. West County Reads
recibió fondos de RCF para financiar la
compra de ocho estantes de libros
que serán colocados en varios sitios
comunitarios, tales como una clínica
de salud y una lavandería. Los libros
destacarán historias multiculturales y
serán dirigidos hacia niños de 3 a 10.
