TODAY’S READINGS & REFLEXION
First Reading — The Israelites show their
faith by offering the L
first fruits of the
products of their new land (Deuteronomy
26:4-10).

the risen Christ and confess that he is Lord

JESUS AND THE DEVIL
The devil tempted Jesus by quoting scripture, as today’s
Gospel reminds us. Try a self-serving miracle. Try selling out.
Try dazzling the audience; people are gullible, after all. Try all
these easy ways. The tempter tries to urge Jesus onto the
slippery slope, attempts the old soft-soap, the snake-oil solutions
that are always readily at hand. The devil knows better, but is
powerless to do better, much less be better. The devil is evil
personified, who senses in Jesus the stronger, truly attractive
presence of holiness.
Evil is exposed and engaged, we are reminded in this
Sunday’s Gospel. Evil knows the jig is up. The undoing of lies
begins with Jesus, who takes up the work of soul-healing and
world-healing. This Lent, the Church invites us to enter into this
renewing, re-creative work and be made whole again.

JESÚS Y EL DEMONIO
Como nos recuerda el Evangelio de hoy, el demonio tentó a
Jesús con citas de la Sagrada Escritura: haz un milagro que te
convenga. Véndete. Deslumbra a tus oyentes; el pueblo es
ingenuo y novelero. Camina por estas sendas fáciles. El tentador
trata de llevar a Jesús por la senda fácil pero resbalosa,
ofreciéndole las soluciones fáciles pero falsas que siempre están
a la mano. El demonio sabe lo que es bueno, pero no tiene la
capacidad de hacer lo que es bueno, y menos aún de ser bueno.
El demonio es la personificación del Mal, e intuye en Jesús la
presencia más fuerte, y más genuinamente atractiva, de la
santidad.
El Evangelio de este domingo nos muestra al Mal expuesto
y desenmascarado. Satanás sabe que se le ha acabado el juego.
Hoy Jesús comienza a deshacer su tejido de mentiras, y a sanar a
las almas, y al mundo entero. Y en este tiempo de Cuaresma, la
Iglesia nos invita a participar en esta labor de renovación, de
nueva creación, y a dejar que Cristo nos sane.

the week [Sunday] each of you should set aside whatever you

Del Escritorio del Pastor...
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en el Señor Jesús:
“For the Scripture says, No one who believes in him
will be put to shame. For there is no distinction between Jew
and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, enriching all who call
upon him…” This our Brooklyn Diocese, also known as the
Diocese of Immigrants, is a Church with a historic memory, it
has been the hope in the social processes in this great country,
racial discrimination has been diminished to be opened to the
Spirit of the Word of God and open the doors to brothers and
sisters from everywhere, and that’s why is a pluri faces
Dioceses. In our parish we have ethnicities that defines it,
many of us are Hispanics, few are Anglo and more than half of
the congregation is African. We give thanks to God for making
us part of this Catholic Church and for loving each other as
brothers and sisters. We are thankful for Fr.
Kieran Udeze coming to our lives and in such
a short time has gained our trust that, as our
petition, our Diocese has assigned him our
Parochial Vicar. Welcome to our fraternal
atmosphere, this is your house.
When we are young sometimes we
make very immediate decisions, everything is required to be
done at its own time; life is a school where we go learning,
Wesner, who was our organist, left us unexpectedly for a better
job offer. Now with God’s help we are looking for somebody
else who will fulfill our expectations and continues to be a
reason of conversion as a music ministry, we have for now Mr.
Reynaldo. He will be on try out for now and then we will
decide.
We give thanks to those who are contributing in the
Generations of Faith Campaign, as of today we have reached
153, 500 in pledges from our goal that is 190,000. We ask
everyone to please join and that way we may reach the goal,
perhaps surpass it, that way half of it will come back to our
parish and process our projects with it. Thanks to our
volunteers beforehand, you are doing a very efficient job. We
continue to invoke God to assist us.
As every year, we welcome St. Fortunata’s Society,
you are the past and present of our Parish history, that continues
advancing in the passing of time with our different ethnic
groups that represent St. Fortunata. Thank you for your
presence.

“Por eso dice la Escritura: Ninguno que crea en El
quedará defraudado, porque no existe diferencia entre judío y no
judío, ya que uno mismo es el Señor de todos, espléndido con
todos los que lo invocan…” Esta, nuestra Diócesis de Brooklyn,
llamada la Diócesis de los Inmigrantes, es una Iglesia con
memoria histórica, ha sido parte de la esperanza en los procesos
sociales de este gran país, las discriminaciones raciales, han ido
menguando para abrirse al Espíritu de la Palabra de Dios y abrir
sus puertas a hermanos y hermanas de todas las latitudes, por eso
es una Diócesis también de los pluri rostros. En nuestra parroquia
tenemos etnias que la definen así, muchos somos hispanos, pocos
anglosajones y más de la mitad de la congregación es africana.
Damos gracias a Dios por ser parte de esta Iglesia Católica y por
querernos todos como hermanos. Damos gracias
que llegó a nuestras vidas el P. Kieran Udeze y en
tan poco tiempo se ha ganado nuestra confianza
que a petición nuestra la Diócesis lo ha asignado
como nuestro Vicario Parroquial. Bienvenido a
nuestra atmósfera fraterna, esta es su casa.
Cuando se es joven se toma decisiones
muchas veces muy inmediatas, todo requiere de hacerlo a su
tiempo; la vida es una escuela y se va aprendiendo, Wesner, que
era nuestro organista , nos dejó intempestivamente por una mejor
oferta de trabajo. Ahora estamos buscando con la ayuda de Dios
otro que cubra nuestras expectativas y siga siendo motivo de
conversión como ministerio de música, por ahora tenemos al Sr.
Reynaldo vamos a tenerlo por un tiempo de prueba y luego
decidiremos.
Agradecemos a quienes van contribuyendo en la
Campaña Generaciones de Fe, hasta la fecha de los 190.000 que es
la meta, ya hemos alcanzado en promesas 153.500. Rogamos a
todos se sumen y podamos no sólo cumplir la meta, sino rebasarla,
así regresará la mitad a nuestra parroquia y así dar proceso a
nuestros proyectos. Gracias de antemano a nuestros voluntarios,
ustedes lo están haciendo muy eficientemente. Seguimos
invocando a Dios para que nos asista.
Como cada año es bienvenida la Sociedad de Santa
Fortunata, ustedes son el pasado y presente de una historia
parroquial que sigue avanzando en el devenir del tiempo, desde
estos nuevos grupos étnicos que hacen un rostro aquí en Santa
Fortunata . Gracias por su presencia.
