AREAS OF INTEREST
 Precision Agriculture Applied to Fruit trees and Vineyard, specifically in the
following subjects:
 Design of Geographic Information System as a tool of productive and economic
management.
 Remote sensing applied to Agriculture.
 Use of nondestructive electronic sensors for monitoring quality characteristics of
export products.



Evaluation of new systems for plant water stress monitoring.
Geotrazability of export products (Fruit and wines).
Temporal and space analyses for productive variability.
PROYECTS IN COURSE
Projects Associated to Productive zone of Vine and Fruit.
The development of the following projects is based on the direct interaction (technical and
financial) with fruit and wine companies looking for the introduction of modern technologies for
the productive handling and their economic management. These concepts are based on the use of
modern tools related to electronics, computer science, remote sensing, etc, associated to the
agronomic knowledge, to improve the opportunities of the Fruit and wine companies in the
international markets.

Development of a new methodology for site specific management of apples and peaches
orchards, using remote sensing and electronic sensors. Project INIA-FIA. (2004-2007). This
project is in direct association with two important fruit companies of Chile (Rosa Sofruco
and Del Curto with more than 2400 and 1000 has of fruit trees, respectively) which
participate actively as much in the development as in the research financing. Simultaneously,
this project is integrated with groups of interest (Farmers and Orchard’s Companies) as
technology transfer.

Application of analysis techniques of multiespectral images to optimize the harvest of better
quality grapes to increase the exported fine wine production. Project INIA Private
Companies (Santa Rita and Undurraga Wineries). (2002-in course). This project is developed
directly with financing of the wineries, in which we have developed advances in tranzability,
site specific management, integration of the company economic systems management and
productive system management in a one Geographic System Management as a tool to take
decision.
 Development of the specific site management in vineyards to improve the grape quality
vinification. Project INIA-FIA. (2001-2005). This project has the goal of evaluate and
develop different Precision viticulture tools.

Introduction of Precision Viticulture to improve the Itata Valley wines, VIII Region - FIA
INNOVA BIO BIO. (2004-2007). This project is developed with 5 medium and small size
wineries with the purpose of test the implementation viability of the precision agriculture
technology in this sector. This project is cofinanced from government and wineries.

Project " Clean technologies development for plagues control in the export avocados
production", FONDEF-INIA. (2004-2008). This project is managed in conjunction with
farmers and avocados gremial exporter association (PROPAL), and is focalized in the use of
precision agriculture tools for plagues detection to optimize (reduce) the pesticides
applications.
 "Evaluation of the research scheme developed by the Australian Viticulture (Interaction
Company - Government) with replication aims in Chile". Project INIA-FIA. This project
is focalized in increase the scientific entailment with Australian Research Institutes
related to Viticulture.
 Development of a predictive method of water stress using thermal remote sensing and its
relation to fruit load balance / canopy development to improve the quality of wine
production and export. INNOVA CHILE. PROJECT INIA – VIÑA SANTA RITA (20062009).
 Development of an Outreach and Training in Precision Agriculture, using Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) to improve the competitiveness of regional
agriculture. INNOVA BIO BIO. DRAFT INIA - SNA-CODESSER-UdeC (2007-2008).

consultants and national researchers in relation to the International Agricultural High
Technology. INNOVA CORFO (2008-2009).
 Technological Equipment Precision Agriculture Program-INIA for implementing sitespecific management techniques in various agricultural sectors of regional significance.
INNOVA CORFO. (2008-2011).
 Development and implementation of precision Olive innovation management and
commercial production companies producing olive oil for export. INNOVA CHILE.
INIA PROJECT - CHILE OLIVE - The Mount of Olives (2009-2012).
