10 Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear
to the instruction of our God, You people of Gomorrah.
11 "What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD.
"I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat
of fed cattle; And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls,
lambs or goats.
12 "When you come to appear before Me, Who requires of you
this trampling of My courts?
13 "Bring your worthless offerings no longer, Incense is an
abomination to Me. New moon and Sabbath, the calling of
assemblies-- I cannot endure iniquity and the solemn
assembly.
14 "I hate your new moon festivals and your appointed feasts,
They have become a burden to Me; I am weary of bearing
them.
15 "So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide
My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I
will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood.
16 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil
of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil,
17 Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.
18 "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD,
"Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as

¿Quién demanda esto de vuestras manos, cuando venís a presentaros
delante de mí para hollar mis atrios?

No me traigáis más vana ofrenda; el incienso me es abominación; luna

19 "If you consent and obey, You will eat the best of the land;

Judah, God's people, throughout their entire history hadn't
done anything more than receive the paternal care of God, and
their reaction was revealed to be against Him – Isaiah 1:2 ...

"Sons I have reared and brought up, But they have revolted
against Me.
They violently broke off from God, they turned their backs on
Him, and they betrayed Him.
And as a consequence of their rebellion, God's discipline came
– verse 4: ... They have despised the Holy One of Israel (KJV:

But before repenting they persisted in their rebellion against
God, verse 5: Where will you be stricken again, As you
continue in your rebellion? (KJV: Why should ye be stricken
any more? ye will revolt more and more:) ...

Regardless of the disciplines, they continued rebelling against
God; they kept provoking and openly challenging God.

It's great foolishness, complete craziness, to try to defy God
like this; sooner or later the Lord will intervene. One can't defy
God and come out unpunished. Proverbs 16:5 - Everyone

But regardless, God's people, in the midst of their rebellion,
feigned honoring God, verses 10-15.

#1 Once again the Lord calls their attention to the
seriousness of their sin

They're identified as nothing less than Sodom and Gomorrah.
In verse 9 the Lord warns that the people had not suffered the
same end as Sodom and Gomorrah (total destruction) due
only to His grace (Genesis 18-19):

Now the Lord establishes a relationship between the governing
body of Jerusalem and of Sodom, and the people of Jerusalem
and of Gomorrah.
Ahora, el Señor establece una relación entre los regidores de Jerusalén y
los de Sodoma y el pueblo de Jerusalén y el de Gomorra.
Sodom and Gomorrah, in terms of our time, are icons of evil,
perversion in its extreme expression.

At the total destruction is what shows Judah as revealed
against God . . .

But the Lord, considering everything including His people's
great straying, still hasn't thrown them away. But in the midst of
their straying He takes the initiative to seek them out, to call
His people. Verse 10 Hear the word of the LORD…; Give ear to

#2 Religiosity verses 11-15

In appearance God's people were fulfilling the complex
sacrificial system established in the book of the law:

11 "What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me?"
Says the LORD.

They also brought the different offerings and celebrated the
different solemn festivals mandated by the law:
También traían las ofrendas y celebraban las fiestas solemnes ordenadas

And in addition they raised their prayers:
Y además elevaban sus oraciones, v.15:
15 "So when you spread out your hands in prayer,
I will hide My eyes from you;
Yes, even though you multiply prayers,

Your hands are covered with blood.
Cuando extendáis vuestras manos, yo esconderé de vosotros mis ojos;

But to the Lord all this religious expression was worthless, vain, Pero toda esta expresión religiosa resultaba para el Señor: Inútil, vana,

But why is that, if all these sacrifices, offerings, and festivals
were established by the same law of God?

First it's necessary to make a clarification: there's nothing in the

our hearts and obedience.
In this regard we have the sad example of King Saul in 1
Samuel 15. Saul received the command from God to strike
Amalek and completely destroy him, the reason being that he'd
opposed God's people when they went up from Egypt.
Saul vanquished and destroyed him, but left King Agag alive,
along with the best of the cattle with the excuse of offering
them to God in sacrifice.
And God's answer through the prophet was (1 Sam 15):
22 Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt
offerings and sacrifices
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
23 "For rebellion is as the sin of divination,
And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the LORD,
He has also rejected you from being king."
This had repeatedly been exactly what God's people's problem

En este sentido tenemos el triste ejemplo del rey Saúl en 1 S. 15, Saúl
recibió la orden de parte de Dios de enfrentar a Amalec y destruirlo por

este subía de Egipto.
Saúl, los derrotó y los destruyó, pero dejo con vida al rey Agag, y lo
mejor del ganado, con la excusa de ofrecerlo en sacrificio a Dios

y como ídolos e idolatría la obstinación.
Por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra de Jehová,
él también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.
had been throughout their entire history of salvation. Later the
Lord again brings this to their attention in Isaiah 29:13
13 Then the Lord said,
"Because this people draw near with their words
And honor Me with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by
rote,
The Lord Jesus Himself, 700 years later, brought this to His
people's attention through the religious leaders (the scribes
and Pharisees) in Mark 7:6-7
6 And He said to them, "Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you
hypocrites, as it is written:
'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.
7 'BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME,
TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.'
'THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, they are
apparently very religious: they honor Me with their lips. That is,
externally one renders service to God, calls on God, keeps
certain principles, and can have good conduct.
And by being religious you can pass as a person of faith when
in reality you're not. You can deceive not only others but
yourself.
But they don't get past here because in spite of all this external
manifestation of piety and worship of God:
Their heart is far from God.
God doesn't want just our moments, words, or works from us,
but He wants far more – He wants our hearts. That means He
wants our entire lives, because the heart is the seat of our
feelings and our faith. The heart is the source of words and

que les ha sido enseñado”
El mismo Señor Jesús, 700 años después, llamó la atención de su
pueblo en cabeza del liderazgo religiosos (escribas y fariseos), Mr. 7:67:
Respondiendo él, les dijo: Hipócritas,
bien profetizó de vosotros Isaías, como está escrito:
Este pueblo de labios me honra,
Mas su corazón está lejos de mí.

Pues en vano me honran,
Enseñando como doctrinas mandamientos de hombres.
Este pueblo de labios me honra, aparentemente son muy religiosos: "de
labios me honra" Es decir que externamente se rinde culto a Dios, se
invoca a Dios, se guardan ciertos principios, se puede tener una buena
conducta.
Y por ser religiosos se puede pasar como persona de fe cuando en
realidad no se tiene fe, se puede engañar a no solo a otros sino a sí
mismos.
Pero de ahí no pasan porque a pesar de toda esta manifestación externa
de piedad, de adoración a Dios:
Su corazón está lejos de Dios
Dios no quiere de nosotros solamente momentos, palabras, obras sino
quiere mucho más, quiere nuestro corazón, es decir, toda nuestra vida,
porque el corazón es el asiento de los sentimientos y de la fe, el corazón

center of human existence: from it flows life ( Pro 4:23 Watch
over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs
of life.)
That's why the Lord, when summing up the moral law, starts by
saying love the Lord your God with all your heart. That is, with
all our life, with all our mental, emotional, and spiritual faculties,
with all our means, with all we are and have. God doesn't want
less, because He is the Lord, He's the absolute owner of
everything, He's our Redeemer . . .
But when honoring God is limited to only an external religious
expression or just lip service, for the Lord that's: worthless,
vain, unbearable, and unpleasantly disagreeable.
#3 But this diagnosis that the Lord gives isn't just to say
His people, His church, are a lost cause. But just the
opposite, to save them.
The Lord calls His people to repentance:
16 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean;
Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight.
Cease to do evil,
17 Learn to do good;
Seek justice,
Reprove the ruthless,
Defend the orphan,
Plead for the widow.
But additionally God invites them to come to Him to be
forgiven.
18 "Come now, and let us reason together,"
Says the LORD,
"Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
es la fuente de las palabras de las acciones, de la vida intelectual,
emocional, de la voluntad, es el centro de la existencia humana: De él
mana la vida (Pr. 4:23).
Por eso el Señor al resumir la ley moral empieza diciendo amarás al
Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, es decir, con toda nuestra vida, con
todas nuestra facultades, mentales, emocionales, espirituales, con todos
nuestros medios, con todo lo que somos y tenemos. Dios no quiere
menos, porque él es el Señor, el dueño absoluto de todo, es nuestro
redentor...
Pero cuando la honra a Dios se limita solamente a una expresión
religiosa externa, de labios para fuera, es para el Señor: Inútil, vana,
insoportables, desagradable.
No. 3 Pero este diagnóstico que hace el Señor, no es precisamente
para desahuciar a su pueblo, a su iglesia, sino todo lo contrario
para salvarlo.
El Señor llama a su pueblo al arrepentimiento:

Lavaos y limpiaos; quitad la iniquidad de vuestras obras
de delante de mis ojos; dejad de hacer lo malo;

aprended a hacer el bien; buscad el juicio, restituid al agraviado,
haced justicia al huérfano, amparad a la viuda.
Pero además Dios los invita a venir a él para que puedan ser perdonados

Venid luego, dice Jehová, y estemos a cuenta: si vuestros pecados
fueren como la grana, como la nieve serán emblanquecidos;
si fueren rojos como el carmesí, vendrán a ser como blanca lana.
They will be like wool.
And this is exactly what Jesus Christ did on the cross of
Calvary for His people, His church. Romans 3:23-26
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the
redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood
through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins
previously committed;
26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the
present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of
the one who has faith in Jesus.
Repentance, faith, and forgiveness are possible because God
promised in Ezekiel 36:26-27:
26 "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit
within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your
flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27 "I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My
statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
Y esto es precisamente lo que ya hizo Jesucristo en la cruz del calvario
por su pueblo, por su iglesia, Ro. 3: 23-26:
“Por cuanto todos pecaron, y están destituidos de la gloria de Dios,

siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia,
mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús,

a quien Dios puso como propiciación por medio
de la fe en su sangre, para manifestar su justicia, a causa
de haber pasado por alto, en su paciencia, los pecados pasados,

con la mira de manifestar en este tiempo su justicia,
a fin de que él sea el justo, y el que justifica al que es de la fe de Jesús.
El arrepentimiento, la fe, el perdón es posible porque Dios promete Ez.
36:26-27:

Os daré corazón nuevo, y pondré espíritu nuevo dentro de vosotros;
y quitaré de vuestra carne el corazón de piedra, y os daré un corazón
de carne.

Y pondré dentro de vosotros mi Espíritu, y haré que andéis en mis
estatutos, y guardéis mis preceptos, y los pongáis por obra

hacer para que Dios ponga en acción esta obra creadora en cada
uno de nosotros.

2. Requires that we hear God's voice – thus the Lord's call in
verse 10: Hear the word of the LORD...; Give ear to the
instruction of our God, ...
3. Requires that our prayers be focused on asking that He
change our hearts: Create in me a clean heart, O God
1. Reconocer nuestra condición, nuestra necesidad, que aquí en el
corazón es donde está la raíz de nuestro problema porque
"engañoso es más que todas las cosas" Jr. 17:9
2. Requiere que escuchemos la voz de Dios por eso el llamado del
Señor en el v.10: “…oíd la palabra de Jehová; escuchad la ley
de nuestro Dios…”
3. Requiere que nuestra oración este enfocada en pedir el cambio
de nuestro corazón: "Crea en mí, oh, un corazón limpio'
