ESL Class Access to CTC 2015 ESL class use of the CTC requires your thorough understanding and compliance with all information shared in this document. In general: • All instructors who want to access the lab with their classes will need to do the following: • Schedule a training if unable to attend a group training offered by your department. This training will familiarize you with the software and hardware, access and turn/on/off procedures. • Follow all rules established by the CTC • Follow the schedule or inform Silvia Morgan if you will be unable to attend so someone else can use your scheduled time. • Keep curriculum focus on English and avoid instruction on computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc., during the ESL class • Encourage CTC use outside of regular ESL class time by assigning homework at least every other week and using the “Student sign in/out form.” • Visit the CTC while preparing lessons in order to ensure comfort and familiarity with hardware and software. • Log the following to submit at the end of the term: o Homework assigned o Number of hours in lab o Approximate average attendance on lab days • ESL Instructional resources in the lab include: o Rosetta Stone for our ESL levels 1-5 o Oxford Picture Dictionary o ESL Websites on the internet – List provided o Typing tutors o Mouse tutors Silvia Morgan, Technology Plan 2015 Page 1 CTC Rules for ESL Student English Spanish 1. Go over Student Rules on the first day of class and give every student a copy. The form is bilingual and it is page 2 of this document. 3) Do not leave the lab unattended at any time. Your aide must be there if you are not. 4) Never bring class to lab outside of scheduled time. Don’t contact CTC staff directly. 6) Don’t allow students to work on personal tasks such as the ones listed on their rules 7) Ensure that door is locked when you leave. 8) See that all computers are turned off at the end of the class (show students how to do this on the projector before shutting off your own computer 9) Turn on your projector by clicking once on the red button. Do not adjust anything on it, Turn off the projector at the end of your class. Click twice on the red button to turn off. 10) Prohibit students from touching any CTC materials other than computers and headsets 11) Don’t remain in lab past your scheduled time. If a teacher follows, do not assume they will be there. Shut everything down 5 to 10 minutes before the end of your period, unless following teacher is waiting at the door. 12) Do not adjust the air conditioning as it is set up for optimum equipment performance. A jacket may be necessary. 13) If microphone is beeping, turn the volume down or off. This usually fixes the problem. 14) Finally, plan for a shorter lesson that the time allotted and be sure everyone is following along if you project something on the screen.
