The Congreso de las Acequias, the governing body of the New
Mexico Acequia Association, is a federation of regional delegates.
The delegates to the Congreso can come from two types of regions:
Type 1 Region: This type of Region has an established regional
acequia association. This type of region has automatic
representation on the Congreso de las Acequias. The number of
delegates depends on the number of acequias in that regional
association. Each regional acequia association names its own
delegates by completing a Type 1 Membership Form. Then those
delegates are affirmed at the annual meeting of the Congreso de las
Acequias and those delegates remain in place until the regional
acequia association names new delegates.

Other Features
Type 2 Region: This type of Region does not have an organized
regional acequia association. However, these regions are
recognized for purposes of representation. A Type 2 region can have
only one delegate. A region can name a delegate by completing a
Type 2 membership form. Then the delegate is affirmed at the
annual meeting of the Congreso de las Acequias. The term for a
Type 2 delegate is one year.
