Dear Parishioner,
Salvation is a gift from God. We don’t really earn it.
When we stand before God and give an accounting of
our life, we can ask for salvation, not because of our own
merits but because Jesus opened the gates of heaven for
us. He saved us, we don’t save ourselves.
Yet, in human freedom, we must accept the gift of
salvation and live according to God’s plan in order for
Jesus’ gift to be real. God does not force himself upon
us. So what do we do to be saved? Jesus was asked
this by the rich young man and he told him, “obey the
commandments.” But the man persisted, saying that
he had done all of that. So Jesus looked at him, and
loved him, and then told him, “go, sell what you have
and give to the poor and then come follow me.” Yes, he
should have stopped asking after Jesus said, ‘obey the
commandments’ but I think something told him that simply
fulfilling rules was not good enough. It really wasn’t: follow
me is the way to salvation.
Being a good steward can be seen as simply fulfilling
the 3 T’s in some way, giving our time, talent and treasure.
But something tells us that it is not enough. Like the rich
young man, we are invited to go deeper. Isn’t Jesus
calling us to give our very self? For some, that means
‘selling all and giving to the poor’ but for most, it means
simply doing our duty but with the openness to follow
Jesus wherever he calls. We don’t give money or time as
much as our self. This is what Jesus wants.
Are you a good steward? Am I? I want to tell the Lord
(like the Pharisee) that I have given money, that I work for
the church, that I pray and that, therefore, I should be in
his ‘good graces.’ I am kind of owed salvation.
But the rich young man did all of this and more, and he
still went away sad when Jesus asked him for something
different.
I don’t think he wants stewards, he wants servants. He
wants disciples who follow him with their whole heart.

FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE FAITH
Susan Mullins wants young Catholics to fall in love.
“It is vital that we pass on the faith to our younger
generations,” she said. “Studies show that young adults are
leaving the Church in large numbers world wide and we
need to stop this. Our young people need to fall in love
with the faith in order for them to practice it all their life.”
As Coordinator of Youth Ministry at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Mullins says that the faith
journey and growing to love it starts at home.
“Parents are the first teachers of the faith for their
children, but need help with reinforcing the teachings and
explaining (the faith) in a deeper way as their children grow
older,” she said.
That’s where adult volunteers come in to the picture.
“To have adults step up to share their time and their love
of the Catholic Church with our young people is awesome,”
Mullins said. “Their presence impresses upon the young just
how important our faith is to us.”
Volunteers serve as catechists, or teachers, and spend
several hours a week preparing and teaching religious
education classes on Sundays and Wednesdays at ICC.
The classes teach young Catholics the basics of their faith,
how to grow deeper within it and prepare the children to
receive sacraments including baptism, first holy communion
and confirmation.
“Each year at ICC, we are blessed to have hundreds
of Catechists who step up and spend a year in the
classroom, to teach, to pray, to share their life experiences
so that our young people can form a relationship of their
own with our Lord,” Mullins said.
While catechists play a crucial role in faith formation for
their students, it’s rare they complete the year as the only
ones growing deeper in their faith. Many times catechists
themselves wrap up their year of teaching to realize that
their students have transformed them, too.
“I see the need that our youth has, the hunger for Christ,”
Catechist Magda Luna said.
When Luna saw an advertisement in the church bulletin
a few years ago requesting adults that felt a spark to
teach youth about the faith, she immediately talked to her
husband about volunteering as a catechist.
“I knew it was going to take time away from my family,”
Luna said. “I got my husband’s support and once he was
on board, I emailed Susan. God willing, I will be starting my
third year this fall with hopefully the same team members.”
Luna and five other team members all work together to
prepare and teach lessons to high school students who
are attending the religious education program for the first
year – students are required to attend two years in a row in
order to prepare and receive a sacrament.
“We (the team) didn’t know each other at all when the
majority of us started in the fall of 2014,” Luna said. “Now
we have bonded really well, we are friends in the faith and
pray after each class once the students are gone.”
Prayer is a powerful thing for Luna and her fellow team
members. Their classes always begin and end with prayer.
This is when the good stuff happens.
“By the end of both years, the students themselves are
praying before and after class – in front of the whole class,”
Luna said. “Everyone ends up (praying) at least once, or
more, but it’s beautiful hearing their nervousness but still
willing to participate in praying. We have had to pray
for classmates that have passed, grandparents, for the
beautiful day we have been given, that we got to class
safely – and, I love it when they pray for the teachers (us).”

VOLUNTEER
Immaculate Conception is in need of catechists for the
2016-17 school year. If you are interested in teaching
Catholic youth about our faith, contact the church office
at 565-1770. Individuals wanting to teach elementary
students, grades preschool – 5, should ask for Joana
Mireles and individuals wanting to teach middle school or
high school students, grades 6-12, should ask for Susan
Mullins. All religious education classes at ICC are taught on
both Sunday and Wednesday.
All children and teens should be actively enrolled in their
second continuous (on going) year of religious formation
in order to sign up for Sacramental Preparation and for
Quinceanera class.
REGISTRATION
Registration for Pre-K through 12th Grade enrollment will
take place on June 12 and July 10 after all Masses in the
gym.
Enrollment fee must be paid in full at time of enrollment.
The fee for registered parishioners is $75 per child or
$150 per family (two or more children). The fee for nonparishioners is $200. Enrollment will not be final without full
payment.

A sprituality is not a theology. A theology deals with ideas arranged
in one’s mind, whereas a spirituality arranges actions that are centered
in one’s heart. Stewardship is a practical spirituality with a set course of
actions that enables parishioners to live it out. A season of “Stewardship
Renewal” provides the steps needed to put into practice the spirituality of
stewardship.
We said that, as a spirituality, stewardship means that we find meaning in
our identity of creatures of God. We are not our own, we belong to God.
God is a loving father who gives us everything that we need. The things we
have are not ours either. They belong to God and he trusts us to use them
wisely. This knowledge should manifest a detachment from material things
and is called “evangelical poverty.” Stewardship encourages us to adopt
this spirit of poverty. We are not actually poor, but we are spiritually poor.
It’s easy to say that we are detached from things; it’s another to prove it.
Stewardship says that we must give ten percent away (back to God) in
thanksgiving for what God has given us. The proof that we are detached is
our tithe.
Although everyone’s gift is not the same size because the gifts differ,
everyone makes the same sacrifice of ten percent. This is the concept, not
of equal gifts, but of equal sacrifice. There is much more to this spirituality,
but its essence resides in evangelical poverty. Jesus himself says, “Blessed
are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5:3).
Talking to people of prosperity is what is normally done in middle-class
America. We cannot let ourselves be fooled in believing that things are
going to make us happy. They don’t, but people seem to chase foolishly
this notion all their lives. I am convinced that stewardship will be the
conversion of a materialistic world. It puts God first, not our things. When
we give our tithe to the parish church, the church itself tithes by giving to
others from an established charity account. This charity account allows
a stewardship parish to assist our poor brothers and sisters at home and
abroad. I’m sure that God in his goodness will bless His Church with the gifts
given to good stewards.

Estimado Parroquiano,
La salvación es un regalo de Dios. Realmente no la
ganamos. Cuando estemos frente a Dios y le damos
contabilidad de nuestra vida, podemos pedir la salvación,
no debido a nuestros propios meritos, pero porque Jesús
abrió las puertas del cielo para nosotros. El nos salvo,
nosotros no podemos salvarnos por nuestra propia cuenta.
Pero, en nuestra libertad humana, debemos aceptar el
regalo de la salvación y vivir según el plan de Dios para
que el regalo de Jesús sea una realidad. Dios no impone su
voluntad en nosotros. ¿Entonces, que hacemos para poder
salvarnos? Esta pregunta se la hizo un joven rico a Jesús y
él le dijo, “Obedece los mandamientos.” El joven persistió,
diciendo que el cumplía con todo eso. Entonces Jesús lo
miro, lo amo y le digo, “ve y vende lo que tienes y dáselo
a los pobres y después ven y sígueme.” Si, el joven debió
dejar de preguntar después que Jesús le digo, “Obedece
los mandamientos” pero yo creo que simplemente seguir
las reglas no era suficiente. Realmente, no es; seguirme, es el
camino a la salvación.
Ser un buen administrador se puede ver como simplemente
cumplir con las
3 T’s en cierta manera, dar de nuestro
Tiempo, Talento y Tesoro. Pero algo nos dice que eso no
es suficiente. Como el joven rico, estamos invitados a ir más
allá. ¿No es Jesús quien nos llama a darnos de sí mismo? Para
unos, estos quiere decir ‘vender todo y dárselo a los pobres’
pero para la mayoría, es simplemente cumplir con nuestro
deber con la apertura de seguir a Jesús cuando él nos llama.
No solo es de dar de nuestro dinero o tiempo más darnos
de sí mismos. Esto es lo que Jesús quiere.
¿Eres tú un buen administrador? ¿Soy yo? Quiero decirle al
Señor (como los fariseos) que he dado dinero, que trabajo
por la Iglesia, que rezo y que por lo tanto, yo debo estar en
Su ‘gracia’. Me es debida mi salvación.
Pero el joven rico hiso todo esto y más, pero todavía se fue
triste cuando Jesús le pidió algo diferente.
No pienso que Jesús quiere buenos administradores, El
quiere servidores. Quiere discípulos que los sigan de todo
corazón. Sirve al Señor, con todo el corazón, y serás su
discípulo.

ENAMORANDOSE DE LA FE
Susan Mullins quiere que los jóvenes católicos se
enamoren
“Es importante que transmítamos la fe a nuestra
generación de jóvenes,” dice Susan. Estudios demuestran
que los jóvenes adultos están dejando la Iglesia en
números alarmantes en todo el mundo y necesitamos
evitar esto. Nuestros jóvenes necesitan enamorarse de la
fe para que la puedan practicarla por toda su vida.
Como Coordinadora del Ministerio de Jóvenes en la
Iglesia Católica de Inmaculada Concepción, Mullins dice
que una jornada de fe y aprender a amar esa fe, empieza
en casa.
Los Padres son los primeros maestros de la fe de sus hijos,
pero necesitamos promover las enseñanzas, explicando la
fe in una manera más profunda según van creciendo sus
hijos, dice ella.
Aquí es donde los voluntarios adultos se hacen
presente.
“Tener adultos que toman el paso para compartir de su
tiempo y su amor de la Iglesia Católica con los jóvenes es
impresionante,” dice Mullins. “Su presencia impresiona a los
jóvenes lo importante que es nuestra fe para nosotros.”
Los voluntarios sirven como catequistas o maestros
y pasan muchas horas de la semana preparando y
enseñando las clases de religión en los domingos y
miércoles aquí en ICC. Las clases enseñan a los jóvenes
Católicos, los fundamentos de su fe, como profundizarla
en si mismo y preparan los jóvenes para recibir los
sacramentos incluyendo el bautismo, primera Comunión y
la confirmación.
“Cada año, aquí en ICC, somos bendecidos de tener
centenares de Catequistas que toman la iniciativa y
pasan el año en la sala de clases, enseñando, rezando,
y compartiendo sus experiencias de vida para que los
jóvenes puedan formar una relación propia con nuestro
Señor.”
Mientras los catequistas desempeñan un papel crucial
en la formación de fe de sus estudiantes, es raro que
ellos sean los únicos que crecen en lo más profundo
en su fe. Muchas veces, los catequistas terminan el año
de enseñanza para realizar que sus alumnos los han
transformado a ellos también.
“Yo veo la necesidad que nuestra juventud tiene,
hambre de Cristo,” dice la Catequista, Magda Luna.
Hace unos años cuando Luna vio el anuncio en el
boletín de la Iglesia que solicitaban adultos que tuvieran
esa chispa para enseñar a los jóvenes de su fe, ella
inmediatamente hablo con su esposo sobre ofrecerse
como catequista voluntaria.
“Yo estaba consciente que se tomaría tiempo fuera
de mi familia,” dice Luna. “Conseguí el apoyo de mi
esposo y una vez que tenía su apoyo, le mande un correo
electrónico a Susan. Con la voluntad de Dios, empezare
mi tercer año este otoño con la esperanza de trabajar
con los mismos miembros del equipo.”
Luna y cinco miembros del equipo, trabajan juntos
para preparar y enseñar la lecciones a los estudiantes
de la secundaria que asisten al programa de formación
religiosa por el primer año – estudiantes deben asistir
por 2 años consecutivos para preparase para recibir un
sacramento.
VOLUNTARIOS
“Nosotros (el equipo), no nos conocíamos muy bien
cuando empezamos en el otoño del 2014,” dice Luna.
“Ahora hemos formado un enlazo amistoso, somos amigos
en la fe y oramos después de cada clase una vez que se
han ido los estudiantes.”
La oración es algo muy poderoso para Luna y sus
compañeros de equipo. Sus clases siempre empiezan y
terminan con una oración.
Esto es lo que sucede con buena materia.
”Para el fin de los 2 años, los estudiantes (por sí mismos)
están rezando antes y después de clase – en frente de
toda la clase.” dice Luna. “Todos terminan (orando) por
lo menos un vez o más durante el año, pero lo hermoso
es escuchar su nerviosidad pero están dispuestos a
participar en la oración. Tenemos que orar por nuestros
compañeros que han pasado, abuelos, por el hermoso
día que se nos ha dado, que llegamos a clase con
seguridad – y, me gusta cuando rezan por las maestras,
(nosotros).”
Inmaculada Concepción esta en necesidad de
catequistas para el año escolar de 2016-17. Si estas

Personas que desean enseñar estudiantes en grados
elemental – pre K –grado 5, deben preguntar por Joana
Mireles y los que desean enseñar a estudiantes de la
escuela media o de la escuela secundaria, pregunten por

CORRESPONSABILIDAD (ADMINISTRACION)
NO ES DE RECAUDAR FONDOS. ES UNA
MANERA DE VIDA, UNA ESPIRITUALIDAD.

Una espiritualidad no es una teología. Una teología se trata con las ideas
dispuestas en las mentes de unos, mientras una espiritualidad arregla las acciones
que están centradas en los corazones. Corresponsabilidad es una espiritualidad
práctica que define un curso de acción que permite a los feligreses poder
aceptar. El tiempo de la “Renovación de la Corresponsabilidad” provee los pasos
necesarios para poner en práctica la espiritualidad de la Corresponsabilidad.
Como hemos dicho, en la espiritualidad, la corresponsabilidad quiere decir
que encontramos nuestra identidad como creaturas de Dios. No somos
independientes, pertenecemos a Dios. Dios es nuestro padre amoroso que
nos da todo lo que necesitamos. Lo que tenemos, no es nuestra pertenencia
tampoco. Pertenece a Dios y el confía que lo utilicemos sabiamente. Este
conocimiento debe manifestar un despegamiento de las cosas materiales y
se lama ‘pobreza evangélica’ La corresponsabilidad nos anima a adoptar
este espirito de pobreza. En actualidad, no somos pobres pero somos pobres
espiritualmente. Es fácil decir que estamos despegados de cosas; pero es
difícil probarlo. Corresponsabilidad nos dice que debemos dar el 10% a Dios
en agradecimiento por lo que Dios nos ha dado. La prueba de que estamos
despegados es nuestro diezmo.
Aunque el regalo de todos no es del mismo tamaño porque hay diferencia
en regalos, todos hacen el mismo sacrificio del diez por ciento. En este concepto,
los regalos no son iguales, pero el sacrificio es igual. Hay mucho mas con esta
espiritualidad, pero en esencia, tiene raíz en la pobreza evangélica. Jesús mismo
nos dice, “felices los pobre de espiritó, porque de ellos es el reino del Cielo “ (Mt.
5,3
Hablando con personas de prosperidad, es lo que se hace normalmente en
la clase-media de América. No debemos ser engañados en la creencia que
todo nos va a hacer felices. No, pero la gente parece perseguir esta absurda
nación por todas sus vidas. Estoy convencido que la Corresponsabilidad será la
conversión del mundo materia listico. Es poner a Dios primero, no nuestras cosas.
Cuando damos el diezmo a la parroquia, la misma Iglesia da su diezmo cuando
da a otros de su cuenta establecida para la caridad. Esta cuenta de Caridad le
permite a una Iglesia Corresponsable, asistir a los hermanos y hermanas pobres en
su área y en el extranjero. Estoy seguro que Dios en su bondad, bendecirá a Su
Iglesia con los regalos recibidos de sus buenos administradores.
