LLAMADO A POSTULAR PARA BECAS DE VIAJE PARA ASISTIR
AL CONGRESO DE LASA 2012 en San Francisco, CA.
La Sección Perú de LASA tiene el agrado de anunciar que ofrecerá una
beca parcial de viaje para participantes al Congreso de LASA de LASA
en San Francisco (mayo 23-26, 2012). La beca cubrirá parcialmente
el costo del pasaje a San Francisco, hotel y algunos de los costos para
asistir al congreso, e.g., costo de la visa. El monto de la beca no
podrá exceder los $1000, que todavía estamos tratando de recolectar.
Las solicitudes deben de enviarse hasta el 31 de marzo, 2012, y las
becas se anunciaran el 5 de abril. La selección será hecha por un
panel de tres personas. Dos pertenecientes al Comité Ejecutivo y un
voluntario de la Sección Perú.
¿QUIENES PUEDEN POSTULAR PARA LAS BECAS?
Todos los postulantes que cumplan con lo siguiente: 1) ser miembro(s)
de la Sección LASA Perú; 2) haber sido aceptados a presentar una
ponencia en el Congreso de LASA. Sin embargo, Ud. NO es elegible si
ya ha recibido una beca para cualquiera de los tres congresos
anteriores o si Ud. Asiste al congreso de LASA como comentarista o
organizador de panel.
PRIORIDADES DE SELECCIÓN:
La Sección Perú ha establecido las siguientes prioridades para elegir a
los ganadores de estas becas: 1) Tendrán prioridad investigadores
jóvenes, definidos como estudiantes graduados, o profesores u otros
profesionales que hayan terminado estudios en los últimos DIEZ (10)
anos; Residentes permanentes del Perú, y, en segundo lugar,
residentes permanentes en USA o América Latina; 2) ponentes de
paneles organizados por la Sección Perú. Si Ud. No esta en ninguna de
estas categorías, puede postular -- pero su solicitud solo será
considerada si no se presentaran postulantes con las tres calificaciones
anunciadas antes.
CRITERIOS DE SELECCIÓN:
Postulantes calificados serán evaluados sobre la base de su capacidad
profesional (síntesis de su ponencia, evidencia de logros académicos
previos) y necesidad financiera (no haber recibido otros fondos para
asistir al congreso).
COMO POSTULAR:
Envié su información completa antes del 1 de abril, 2012, via e-mail a

resumen de no más que 350
palabras justificando su pedido para la beca. Incluya el nombre del
panel y titulo de su ponencia; fecha de institución donde obtuvo su
grado académico mas alto; cargo profesional actual; país de residencia
permanente; además, indique cuando, y si ha recibido financiamiento
de la Sección Perú en el pasado. 2) Documentos de apoyo (que deben
de remitirse como attachments en Word, Adobe PDF, o en formato
texto): a) una síntesis de la ponencia a ser presentada en el Congreso;
b) un Curriculum Vitae de una página; c) presupuesto detallado de los
gastos esperados y de otras fuentes posibles de financiamiento.
CALL FOR TRAVEL GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR LASA 2012
The Peru Section of the Latin American Studies Association is pleased
to announce that it will provide partial travel grants (no more than
$1000) for attendees at the LASA 2010 congress in San Francisco,
from May 23 to 26, 2012. Grants will cover some of the costs of travel
to San Francisco, hotel, and some of the expenses, e.g., visa, taxis.
The amount of each grant will be determined taking into consideration
the cost of travel from the grantee’s home city to San Francisco as well
as LASA’s calculations of the cost of hotels and food.
Applications must be submitted by March 31, 2012 and awards will be
announced by April 5. Grantees will be chosen by a three-person
committee made up members of the Peru Section Executive
Committee.
ELIGIBILITY:
All applicants must 1) be members of the LASA’s Peru Section; 2) have
had their paper accepted for presentation at the LASA Congress.
Please note that you are NOT eligible for a grant if you have received a
Peru Section travel grant for any one of the last three LASA congresses
or you are a panel commentator or panel chair.
SELECTION PRIORITIES:
The Peru Section has established the following priorities for choosing
recipients of travel grants: 1) junior scholars defined as graduate
students OR professors or other professionals who finished their
graduate studies no more than ten years ago); 2) permanent residents
of Peru, followed by permanent residents Latin America; 3) presenters
on panels organized by the Peru Section. If you do not fall into any of
these categories you may apply anyway but you should understand
that your application will be considered only if there are no qualified
applicants in these three categories.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Eligible applications will be evaluated on the basis of the quality of
scholarship (paper abstract, evidence of previous academic
achievements) and economic need (other funding received for
attending LASA 2012).
HOW TO APPLY:
Eligible candidates must apply by March 31, 2012, announcement of
awards will be on April 5th. Please submit the following information by
email to the Peru Section Co-Chair Elena Alvarez at [email protected].
1) A brief (350-word maximum) statement of need. This should
include information about the applicant's participation in LASA 2012
(panel, title of paper); the date and institution of highest degree
obtained; current professional position; country of permanent
residence; and whether the applicant has previously received funding
from the Peru Section and when. 2) Supporting documents to be
submitted as attachments in Word, Adobe PDF or plain text format: a)
an abstract of the paper accepted for delivery at the LASA 2012
meeting; b) a one-page curriculum vita; c) a budget detailing expected
costs and other potential sources of funding.
