This will drag a copy and leave the palette symbol in place for later use. • The file is configured with a 1/20" grid that will allow most symbols to interconnect nicely either by dragging or by moving them with the arrow keys. • When you need finer control than the 1/20" steps provide, hold the Alt key while dragging, or use Ctrl/Cmd+arrow keys to nudge the object. • Most of the symbols are grouped sets of individual drawing objects (or "shapes"). To delete, modify, or reposition a line or textbox within a group: o For a textbox, click within it and then press the Esc key once to exit text-editing mode and leave the text box selected. o For a line, triple-click directly on it. o Perform the desired operation (delete, resize, etc.). • To change the length of an angled line while maintaining its angle: o Select it (if it’s in a group, select it by triple-clicking). o Hold Ctrl-Shift (Cmd-Shift on Mac?) as you drag a node at one end of the line to resize it. • The dotted curve symbol can be formed to nearly any shape. o Drag it onto the canvas, right-click it, then choose "Edit Points." o Have fun figuring out how it works! Start by experimenting with dragging the various “resize” nodes. o Add or delete points as necessary to get the overall shape you want. o You will get much smoother curves if you hold the Shift key while dragging the pivoting nodes that control the shape of the curve surrounding the individual points. o Experiment with these nodes to see how both the angle and the distance from the point affect the shape of the curve. • The "straight-line" version of the curve can also be reformed by resizing and by using Edit Points; it is much less finicky than the curve. To add or delete corners, simply add or delete points. • To convert finished diagrams to a letter-size document: o Perhaps simplest is to select the diagram(s), copy, and paste as a picture (Ctrl/Cmd-Alt-V) into Word or some other program. Note that the pasted image will not be editable, so it is wise to save the PowerPoint for later editing. o In recent versions of PowerPoint, you can also delete the palette and then resize the slides to 8.5x11, maintaining the original size of the drawing objects. Note that this operation resizes all slides in a file. • You might want to convert this file to a standard PowerPoint template. The symbols provided are starting points. Modify them as you wish; you are in control! A caution, however. I have carefully tweaked the vertical dimensions to provide optimal vertical alignment for connecting symbols. Changing any vertical characteristics in the provided symbols, including enlarging the font size, is likely to degrade the ease with which you can achieve precise vertical alignment as you connect symbols. interj/addr conj Basic Orientation conj interj/addr any word subject verb subject subject verb pred. noun/adj verb verb object verb acc subj pred. noun/adj infinitive acc subj infinitive acc subj object infinitive = prep prep appos modifier obj of prep mod.
