ABSTRACT
In these pages, we will talk about the evolution of the Egyptian army, from the Old
Kingdom (2649 B. C – 2152 B. C) until the Alexander the Great arrival to Egypt in 332 B.
C. We will also expose which historical sources should help us to understand the topic,
including classical authors, the iconography and the archaeological remain that will allow
us to get closer to the different author ’s opinion about the army and what information they
give us about it, such as how Egyptians represented their soldiers or the battles, and in
addition, whether there are any archaeological sites or other that could support this paper
work with some information about weapons or buildings for military purposes. After
analizyng these sources, we will try to deepen into aspects of the evolution of the Egyptian
army, from the ranks to the organization, its function, etc. All of this, separated according
to the historical period studied, providing us with its evolution as we move further in time.
And finally, we will address the weapons and equipment worn by soldiers, to analyze how
they fought and defended in the battlefield.
