 Following
History
the traditional festive
calendar, when Christmas finishes,
Cádiz starts to prepare the
carnival. The carnival of Cádiz,
which is celebrated since S.XVI, is
the traditional holiday of the city.
This festivity had been celebrated
since 1862 whitout been oficial,
and in this year started to take part
in the municipal festival calendar.

part in the carnival the typical
When? & Where?
The carnival in Cádiz aren’t only de ten official with the dances, floats, costum contests- days in
February. The traditional dates Sunday, Monday
and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and the added
next Sunday (Piñata Sunday); and also the
rehearsal days (usually in September and October),
in the “Falla Theatre” make of the carnival a
holiday of about two months.

The Choir is the
grouping that has more
members,
approximately forty-five
people. Their
components usually are
classified in Low,
Second, Tenors and
Orchestra. Between the
instruments that use
appear you render,
guitars, bandurrias, as
well as others based on
the type. The repertoire
usually is made up of:
presentation, tangos,
cuplés, and popurri,
being the tangos the
“El coro de los niños”
Chirigotas

“No somos nadie”
They’re composed by
approximately 12 people,
classified in: Tenors,
Second and High ones.
The instruments that
normally use are Big drum,
Box and Guitar, and the
typical whistle. The
repertoire is the same one
that the one of the
Comparsas: Presentation,
Pasodobles, Cuplé and
Popurrí, being its fort the
Cuplé. Usually they are
groupings more amused
because they use satire
frequently and the double
sense. In the last carnival
Cuartetos

Grouping of three to five components. Its
repertoire consists of Presentation, Parodia,
Cuples and Popurri. The strong plate of the
quartets is the Parodia, in which represent a
history that usually is related to the type. As
instruments single count with pairs of woods, with
which they go together during the repertoire,
serving to coordinate them too, when singing. It is
a very complicated grouping, when having to act
with the intention of making the publish laugh

Comparsas
“Los Charrúas”

They count on approximately 14 components,
classified in: Tenors, Second, Octavillas and
Contraltos. The main instruments that use are Big
drum, Box and Guitar, and acompanied with others
instruments of the same type. Its repertoire is made up
of Presentation, Pasodobles, Cuplés and Popurri,
emphasizing in the Pasodobles. They are the
groupings with serious appearance but, although their
