ENTER. has developed a very
unique, experiential aesthetic. What
inspires that?
Well, when we started ENTER. I actually didn’t really think about having an
event in Ibiza, because I thought there
was enough great events on the island.
And so, when a little idea started to come
together, it was like: what can I offer that’s
different? I wanted to show people what I
believe is the diversity and depth of electronic music.
How do the physical dimensions of
Space, the multiple areas, help drive
and shape the variety of music on
offer at ENTER. in Ibiza?
Well, even this year we’re trying to play
with the corridor spaces just to give people
a complete, immersive experience! You
know, I have so many different passions
and loves, weirder music and friends... I
also wanted to bring sake into it and create
a sake bar... All those things and different
artists and ideas need to be presented in

a different way, and that’s what we’ve
been able to do at Space, you know, by the
architecture – moving from one room to
another – to actually changing some of the
rooms a little bit. I hope that sucks people
in deeper and deeper and deeper. I want
people to come and, you know, when people come to Ibiza you hope that, because
they’re on vacation, they’re going to forget
about their everyday life. I hope that when
they come to ENTER., they forget they’re
even on Ibiza!
Is there a story behind the evolution,
of the black dot, from a circle to an
eclipse and this year to an iris?
There is, you know... The first year it
was the dot after ENTER., it was a point
of entry, like a doorway that you could
climb through. The corona and halo of last
year was kinda like this glowing entity of
mysteriousness; climbing in, especially
last year, to some new artist, especially in
the Mind Room, which is a little bit more
experimental. And this year the iris really
represents the individuality of each of us.
The iris is even better than a fingerprint,
and the artists that we are presenting at
ENTER. all have their own unique place in
the world of electronic music.
In June you released the very meditative and nuanced album ‘EX’, the first
100% new Plastikman offering since
2003. What prompted the timing?
I think my creative juices to create new
music have been bubbling the last two
years. Last year was really inspiring on the
island. I had a lot of friends, peers, artists
coming in a couple of days early, spending
time on boats or having dinners or talking
about music. Also, I’m at ENTER. from the
beginning to the end so I have a lot of time
to walk through and sit in the corner, or
hide in the corner, and listen and watch.
I saw some incredible performances and
heard some beautiful music and all that
was kinda bubbling in me. Also there’s
been a huge new interest from young people who perhaps only have been exposed
to my DJ sets. And I thought it was about
time to bring them back up to date with
who Richie Hawtin is in 2014 – the DJ and
producer.
Finally, the line up at ENTER. this season
continues to show an amazing amount
of depth... Any new names you’re really
pleased to have on board?
Yeah! We have an Italian DJ, Fabio Florido.
What I like about Fabio is he actually came
to the island two years ago and started
working on our promo team and giving
out mixes and playing a couple of afterparties and now he’s one of our opening residents! He’s making new music now for my
label Minus. The development of another
resident, Hito, has been incredible. Last
year we had an incredible show by kind of
a now-upcoming superstar, Recondite.
He’s doing a number of gigs for us both for
Mind Room and Main Room. And we’ve
invited some old friends who’ve never
played ENTER. before: Chris Leibing and
Adam Beyer for a show. tINI is on board.
Dixon is on board for two shows: one at
the sake bar which I’m really really happy
with. Voices From The Lake, Pye Corner
Audio, Deepbass... And the list goes on...
I’m happy to have them all on board!
I hope that when they

ESP. ENTER. ha desarrollado una estética única y experimental. ¿Qué ha
inspirado esto?
Bueno, cuando empezamos ENTER. yo no
pensaba en celebrar un evento en Ibiza,
porque pensé que ya había demasiados y
muy buenos en la isla. Y por eso, cuando
la pequeña idea empezó a cuajar, pensé:
¿qué puedo ofrecer que sea diferente?
Quería mostrar a la gente que creo en la
diversidad y la profundidad de la música
electrónica.
¿Cómo te ayudan las dimensiones
del espacio de Space, con sus múltiples zonas, a conducir y dar forma a
la variedad musical que ofreces en
ENTER. ?
Bueno, incluso este año estamos intentando jugar con los espacios de pasillo
para dar a la gente una experiencia más
completa y envolvente. Sabes, tengo tantas pasiones y adoraciones, músicas raras
y amigos… También quería traer sake y
crear un bar de sake… Esto y los diversos
artistas e ideas necesitaban representarse
de una forma diferente, y es eso lo que
hemos conseguido hacer en Space, gracias
a su arquitectura, fluyendo de una sala a
otra y cambiando algunas salas también
un poco. Espero que arrastre a la gente a
un lugar más y más profundo. Quiero que
vengan, ya sabes cuando la gente viene a
Ibiza y está de vacaciones, y se olviden de
su día a día. Espero que cuando vengan a
ENTER. puedan olvidarse incluso de que
están en Ibiza.
¿Hay una historia de evolución, del
punto negro a un círculo con un eclipse y este año a un iris?
Sí que la hay… El primer año era un punto
después de ENTER., era un punto de entrada, como un umbral que puedes cruzar. La
corona y el halo del año pasado eran una
especie de halo de misterio; que envolvía
a nuevos artistas, especialmente de la
Mind Room, una sala que es un poco más
experimental. Y este año el iris realmente
representa la individualidad de cada uno
de nosotros. El iris es más único que la
huella dactilar, y los artistas que presentamos en ENTER. ocupan un espacio propio
en el mundo de la música electrónica.
En junio publicaste un álbum muy
meditativo y matizado llamado ‘EX’,
el primero 100% de Plastikman desde 2003. ¿Por qué después de tanto
tiempo?
Creo que en los dos últimos años mi creatividad para crear música empezó a bullir de
nuevo. El año pasado fue muy inspirador
en la isla. Tenía un montón de amigos,
colegas y artistas que vinieron un par de
días antes para pasar tiempo en barcos,
cenando y hablando de música. También, estoy en ENTER. desde el principio
hasta el final así que paso mucho tiempo
paseándome y me siento en una esquina, o
mejor dicho me escondo en una esquina, y
escucho y observo. Vi algunas actuaciones
increíbles y oí música fantástica y todo eso
se va cociendo en mi interior. También hay
un nuevo interés de gente joven que quizá
sólo haya escuchado mis sets como DJ. Y
pensé que era el momento adecuado de
ponerles al día de quién es Richie Hawtin
en 2014, el DJ y productor.
Finalmente, el line-up en ENTER. esta
temporada continúa mostrando una
gran profundidad… ¿Algunos nombres
que realmente estés contento de
tener en el equipo?
Sí, tenemos un DJ italiano, Fabio Florido.
Lo que me gusta de Fabio es que vino a la
isla hace dos años y empezó a trabajar en
nuestro equipo de promoción y repartía
mezclas y pinchaba en algunas afterparties y ahora es uno de nuestros residentes.
Está haciendo música nueva para mi sello
Minus. La evolución de otro residente,
Hito, ha sido increíble. En 2013 tuvimos
un espectáculo increíble de una estrella
emergente llamada Recondite. Va a hacer
una serie de bolos con nosotros para la
Mind Room. Y hemos invitado a algunos
viejos amigos que nunca han pinchado en
ENTER. como Chris Leibing y Adam Beyer
que vendrán para un show. tINI también
pinchará al igual que Dixon que tendrá dos
bolos: uno en el sake bar. Voices From The
Lake, Pye Corner Audio, Deepbass… Y la
lista sigue y sigue. ¡Estoy contento de que
todos participen!
