KEY Largo

A pesar de sus millas de litoral, los Cayos no se distinguen
por sus playas. Pero esto se debe a los increíbles arrecifes
de coral viviente que los rodean. Key Largo es la primera
y más grande de la cadena de islas y su sitial como la
Capital del Buceo del Mundo es bien ganado. El Parque
Estatal John Pennekamp Coral Reef, que está incorporado
al Santuario Marino Nacional Key Largo, consiste en una
gran área salpicada de arrecifes, camas de hierba de mar
y manglares ideales para explorar la vida marina. Una de
las vistas más populares es el Cristo del Abismo, estatua
de bronce hundida que se ha convertido en un emblema
del área y que es accesible tanto para buzos como
principiantes del esnórquel.
Existen docenas de operadores de tours,
arrendamiento de botes y hasta embarcaciones con fondos

Despite miles of coastline, the Florida Keys aren’t famous
for their beaches, but for the incredible living coral reefs
that surround them. Key Largo is the first and largest of the
island chain, and its status as the World Diving Capital is
well earned. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, part
of the Key Largo National Marine Sanctuary, is perfect for
exploring a marine environment filled with living reefs,
beds of seaweed and mangrove swamps. One of the most
popular sights is Christ of the Abyss, an underwater bronze
statue that has become a local icon and is accessible to
novice snorkelers as well as skilled divers.
There are dozens of tour operators, boat rental
agencies and even glass-bottomed boats for observing
the reef without getting wet. Those who prefer to stay
on dry land can enjoy bird watching and trekking. Hungry

Marathon
178 kms. desde Miami / 111 miles from Miami
Aunque es una de las comunidades más agitadas –para los estándares
de los Cayos– las raíces de Marathon son la pesca y la navegación. En
la isla abundan marinas, tours de pesca y buenísimos restaurantes con
la pesca del día –dorado, cangrejo moro (stone crab) y langosta– como
parte del menú. Además de deportes acuáticos y competencias, la
magnífica playa Sombrero es una de las joyas de este conglomerado
de islitas: sus tranquilas aguas son idóneas para surf de remo y kayak
y sus impecables facilidades la han convertido en una gran atracción
familiar. Una visita al Museo y Reserva Crane Point es un viaje al pasado
de la región entre prístinos senderos y conservadas viviendas de los
primeros asentamientos. Para compras, restaurantes y un ambiente de
vida isleña de antaño, Key Colony Beach merece una visita. En marzo se
celebrará la edición número 39 del Festival de Mariscos de Marathon,
que además de ofrecer infinitas variedades de frutos del mar, cuenta
con música, entretenimiento en vivo y artesanías. Y para aquellos que

Although it’s a bustling community by local standards, Marathon’s
roots lie in fishing and sailing. The island is packed with marinas,
fishing tours and excellent restaurants serving up the catch of the day:
mahi-mahi, stone crab and lobster. The magnificent Sombrero Beach
is a real treasure: tranquil waters provide the ideal setting for standup
paddleboarding and kayaking, and impeccable facilities have made it
a popular family attraction. The Crane Point Museum and Reserve take
visitors on a trip back through time to the region’s past, with pristine
trails and the well-preserved homes of the first settlers. For shopping,
restaurants and an atmosphere recalling the island life of yesteryear,
Key Colony Beach is well worth a visit. In March, the 39th edition of
the Marathon Seafood Festival will offer music, live entertainment and
crafts, in addition to an endless variety of delicacies. For a different
kind of attraction (and one free of charge), check out the EAA Air
Museum at the airport.

Little Torch KEY

Esta islita es muy conocida por su romántico y exclusivo resort, Little
Palm Island Resort & Spa. La hospedería que suele ubicarse al tope
