JESUS’ WAY
Today’s readings present a
contrast between “Jesus’ way”
and the “old way.” An example of the old way is the law
given to Moses and Aaron
about leprosy: the leper was
unclean and cast out of the
community. Jesus’ way is the
opposite: the leper is reached
out to, touched, and finally cured.
Nor ought we think of the “old way” as restricted to
the days of Moses and Aaron, or even to the “old” testament. The difference between the old way and Jesus’
way arises in own lives. We still choose, every day, to
live in our old way or in Jesus’ way.
Jesus dared to touch a leper, disregarding the old
way. The leper then was changed forever. He felt a
calling. He couldn’t keep himself from proclaiming that
he had been touched by Jesus (even though Jesus told
him not to!). Once Jesus touches us, we are called to

EL CAMINO DE JESÚS
Las lecturas de hoy presentan
un contraste entre el “camino
de Jesús” y el “camino viejo”.
Un ejemplo del camino viejo es
la ley que recibieron Moisés y
Aarón acerca de la lepra: el leproso era impuro y se echaba
fuera de la comunidad. El
camino de Jesús es lo contrario:
el leproso se acerca, es tocado y finalmente curado.
Tampoco debemos pensar en el “camino viejo” como
algo restringido a los días de Moisés y Aarón o incluso al
“antiguo” testamento. La diferencia entre el camino antiguo y el camino de Jesús surge en nuestra propia vida.
Todavía elegimos, todos los días, vivir siguiendo el
camino viejo o el camino de Jesús.
Jesús se atrevió a tocar a un leproso, sin tener en
cuenta el camino viejo. Así el leproso fue cambiado para
siempre. Se sintió llamado. No podía dejar de proclamar
que había sido tocado por Jesús (¡a pesar de que Jesús
le dijo que no lo hiciera!). Una vez que Jesús nos toca,

review and sign the Annual Attestation Statement. All vol-
unteers(high and low responsibility) must attend a training
session this fiscal year (July 1-June 30). If you have not
already attended a training since July 1, 2011 or are a new
volunteer, please join us for one of the following sessions:

Parish to celebrate
communal anointing of the sick
Next weekend, February 18-19, we will celebrate the
anointing of the sick sacrament at all of our Masses,
and offer a special blessing for those who share in the
Church’s pastoral care of the sick. This blessing is intended for health care workers, persons caring for an
aging or sick family member in their home as well as
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist who bring
communion to the homebound and nursing home patients.
In preparing for this celebration, please remember
that this sacrament is intended for those who are:
experiencing a severe illness (not the short-term
bugs, flues, colds or viruses),
are preparing to undergo surgery,
are experiencing serious weakness caused by aging,
or have a chronic mental illness.

La Parroquia Celebrará
la Unción Comunal de los Enfermos
El próximo fin de semana, 18 y 19 de febrero, celebraremos este sacramento en todas nuestras Misas,
y ofreceremos una bendición especial para los que
comparten con la Iglesia, el cuidado pastoral de los
enfermos. Esta bendición será para los que trabajan en el cuidado de la salud, personas que cuidan
en su casa a un miembro de la familia anciano o
enfermo, así como para los Extraordinarios Ministros de la Eucaristía que llevan la comunión a los
pacientes en casa o en residencias para ancianos.
Por favor recuerden que este sacramento está
destinado para aquellos que:
pasan por una enfermedad severa (no virus),
se están preparando para una cirugía,
están experimentado mucha debilidad ocasionada por
el envejecimiento, o padecen de una enfermedad
mental crónica.

The junior high school students from our school will be
hosting a car wash and bake sale on next Sunday, February 19th from 7:30 AM to Noon in our parish’s North Parking Lot. All proceeds will go toward the Catholic Health
Services. You can have your car washed before, during
or after a Mass. Come and get your car washed, enjoy
some hot chocolate or coffee while munching on delicious
brownies, cookies, doughnuts and more before beginning your
Lenten fast the following Wednesday.

Confirmation I, II and High School Youth Group : Our
meeting for this Wednesday, February 15th is canceled. We
will resume the following week on Tuesday, February 21st
with a Mardi Gras party at 7:00 PM in Dougherty. Please wear
purple, green, gold or silver and bring your assigned food.
We will meet again at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 29th.
Junior High School Youth Group : Will not meet Thursday,
February 16th. You are invited to the Mardi Gras party on
Tuesday, February 21st at 7pm. Wear Mardi Gras colors and

Our parish co-sponsors: Line in the Sand
This Sunday afternoon, Most Holy Trinity Parish Players
will perform a thought provoking play entitled Line in
the Sand at St. Augustine High School (8800 E. 22nd
St.). The high school community will host an Open House beginning at 3:00 PM with the play starting at 3:45 PM. Following the hour long play, there will be time for audience reactions followed by The Kino Teens sharing their experiences of
working with the deported migrants at the Kino Border Initiative. All are invited!
Collecting Old Palms
The ashes used on Ash Wednesday come from burning
the palms blessed and given out last year for Palm Sunday. If you have palms, you may bring them to church
next weekend and place them in the baskets provided.
Major maintenance repair needed
Recently the heater for the church building had a minor “blow
up”. Fortunately, nothing was damaged. However, the heater
(which was rebuilt 10 years ago after 10 year of use) needs
to be replaced. This is an unanticipated maintenance expense
of $15,000. No decision has been made on its replacement as
we do not have the funds and, fortunately, we are having a
mild winter.
In our Maintenance Fund (monies collected through our
quarterly special Maintenance Fund collection) we currently
have $4,916.55. We have been earmarking these monies for
the wrought iron caging to be placed around the airconditioning units for Dougherty Activity Center to protect
them from copper theft. However, in light of this recent development, we may have to use these monies as the starting
funds for replacing the heating unit. If we do this, it will
probably take us a minimum of two more quarterly collections
(slated for April and July) to have sufficient funds to do this
repair.

Un Línea en la Arena
Este domingo por la tarde, los actores de la Parroquia de
Most Holy Trinity (8800 E. 22nd. St.) presentarán una
obra que provoca el pensamiento, titulada Una Línea en la
Arena. La comunidad de la Secundaria tendrá una recepción
de Bienvenida a partir de las 3:00 PM y la obra empezará a las
3:45 PM. Al terminar la obra que dura 1 hora, habrá un tiempo para escuchar las reacciones del auditorio seguido por los
Kino Teens que compartirán sus experiencias de trabajar con
los migrantes deportados en el Kino Border Initiative.
Recepción de Palmas/Ramos
Las cenizas que usaremos el Miércoles de Ceniza provienen de las palmas que se usaron el Domingo de Ramos
del pasado año. Les rogamos que traigan estos ramos el
próximo fin de semana a la iglesia y los coloquen en los
botes en el vestíbulo de la iglesia.
Se necesita una reparación importante
de Mantenimiento
Recientemente la calefacción de la iglesia tuvo una ligera
“explosión”. Afortunadamente no hubo daños. Sin embargo,
se necesita reemplazar el calentador, que fue construido hace
10 años, y tiene 10 años de uso. Este es un inesperado gasto
de mantenimiento que cuesta $15,000. No se ha decidido
reemplazarlo porque no tenemos los fondos, y afortunadamente estamos experimentando un invierno templado.
En nuestro fondo de Mantenimiento contamos con $4,916.55
(que colectamos en nuestra colecta trimestral especial para
este fin. Esta cantidad estaba destinada para las cajas de hierro que cubrirían las unidades de aire acondicionado del Centro de Actividades Dougherty, como protección para evitar el

This Lent (which begins on February
22nd this year) our parish will host a
series called Living the Eucharist. The
series, which uses a small faith sharing
group format, will begin during the
week of Ash Wednesday and continue through the weeks of
Lent culminating in an Easter Time retreat day celebration.
Parishioners have begun signing up for the various small
groups which are offered on various days at various times. In
addition, some groups are being offered for specific persons: for
men only, women only, couples only, young adults only, teens
only, in English, in Spanish, bilingual. You can sign up after
Masses on the weekends or at the Parish Office during regular
office hours.

has another Eagle Scout
St.Cyril of Alexandria’s Boy Scout Troop 115 congratulates
Keith “Jacob” Brazzell on earning the rank of Eagle Scout in
January. This is the highest rank attainable in the Boy
Scouting program.

participating at events sponsored by the Troop. Your support
helps encourage Scouts such as Jacob and the other young men
