Rosie’s Walk is a wonderful picture book about a hen that is being chased by a fox. As you
read the story, emphasize the positional words that are illustrated and let your child bring
them to life. Acting out a story can add to the enjoyment of the story and is a good
communication tool.
What your child will do
Listen to the story and act out the action words then draw a picture illustrating the action
words in the story.
What you need
•The book - Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins
•Paper
•Crayons
•Markers
What you do
1. Read the book.
2. Act out the story.
3. Play a game of follow the leader.
4. Walk across the room, around the chair and under the table.
5. Don’t forget to use action words.
6. Take turns being the leader.
Questions to ask
Did Rosie know who was following her? What was the fox trying to do? If you didn’t
understand the action word in the activity how could you get a clue to figure it out? Can you
be the leader?
For parents
Listening is a big part of communication. Give your child many opportunities to practice
listening. Give her tasks to do with several steps. This fine tunes her listeninig skills. As a
parent, model good listening by taking time to listen to your child.
